Old Warwickshire lad

Currently on holiday and have met a long standing Barsley season ticket holder.
He seems to know people within the club, and a mate who works for Derby.
Said Kitchen is an all round bad lad, from a bad lot.
Family of boxers, brother currently in prison for violence. And said Kitchen was arrested in Barnsley about a year ago, out with his mates and involved in a town centre fight.
All hushed up and no charges against him because of who he is.
Said we were mad to pay £4.25 M and he hasn’t found anyone yet who thinks we weren’t duped into paying over the odds.
Said Collins is L1 keeper at best.
Rated Thomas as good stopper, as long as he has somebody good alongside him to organise things.
I know it’s all shit that we have heard before, but he seems to know his football.
Oh and said we must be mad for sacking Robins.

Heard very similar regarding Liam from someone who knows people at the club.

Don’t think Brad or Bobby are bad lads for context and see it with Thomas. Just think he would benefit from a established Left footed Cb as you said.

It’s not good enough players living miles away from the club he should have been told at the start you move to the local area.

What stuns me about Kitching is, this information wasn't difficult to find before we signed him. Plenty of Barnsley supporters seemed to say him and brother think and act like they are local hard men. The warning signs were there.

Well considering how fucking soft our side is, I wouldn't mind a lunatic at the back.

Something went seriously wrong with the recruitment after the play off final.

It seemed prior to that the character of the players was paramount to Robins.

Since then it seemed like that wasn’t ever factored in.
The character of this whole team is what is wrong. I’d love to know why we stopped considering that to be important

BTA and Lati both seem like very determined and professional guys? Bassette seems like he wants to work hard and do well. Sakamoto too. EMC seems quiet and affected by confidence but you can’t really say he doesn’t seem / act like a professional?

I think the balance of personalities could be wrong, but it’s definitely still a consideration. But how much can you really know about that until after the fact?

I’m not talking about them necessarily being decent people (although from the sounds of it some of them aren’t).
But I mean the sort of player that has a winning mentality.
The likes of Godden and Kelly were never Championship players. But they held their own in this division because they were determined to give their all

We have had a lot of bad boys over the years. There was a goal keeper who did the offie at the bottom of our road. May have been Arthur Lightning but don't want to besmirch his good name if it was someone else. Ian Gibson, Noel Whelan and David Speedie were a bit of a management nightmare. Cyril Regis before he found God had his arm broken by a local guy for sleeping with his wife. Davenport lost his career when he was attacked. Even George Curtis would not hold back on triallists and in friendlies when ordered to do so.
An on form Kitchen would have been welcome in that sort of game at Portsmouth. Unfortunately, like several players at the moment, he seems to be going backwards.

Has Kitching ever been on form since he came here? Not to my eyes. Just a player who thinks he is something he isn't, far too sparky and has his buttons pressed too easily. A total liability.

Strachan made Noel Whelan move in with him to sort him out.

Not sure how Christine is going to react when Frank brings Kitching home

I was once told a story about Ian Wallace from guy who worked at the club for years if it was true then it was not great,.

Yep for the previous three seasons you could see how close the team were and the never say die attitude paticulary the play off season where we came from behind or got last minute goals to win. Watching the behind the scenes there was a buzz about the place and several players in particular like Callum, mve and Wilson were always buzzing.

Since our change of backroom and signings after this seems to have all gone out of the window and this season has been the first for a long time where our players are having a go at each other on the pitch instead of players like Fadz and Ohare rallying the team after conceding

At list of our best performances last season...
Guess who started at the back?

Millwall 3-0
Birmingham 2-0
Leeds away 1-1 (Defensively brilliant draw)
Sunderland 3-0
Leicester 3-1
Rotherham 5-0
Wolves away 3-2
Huddersfield away 3-1
Leeds 2-1

Notable exceptions: Middlesbrough home and away he missed, one due to suspension. He played against United but was brought off.

I still didn't see him as the rock or the glue.

To be honest I still think the biggest issues are Da Silva and goalkeeper . Improve those two and I think you have a good chance of making the defence stronger and more confident. Maybe not a promotion defence but at least one that can pick up some results.
