The Guardian - Ray Ranson / Same division but different rules for Cardiff City (1 Viewer)

Further questions needing answered by Ranson.

:censored:

Cardiff City will have no case to answer from the Football Association even if it is proved by the Football League that they have permitted third parties to exercise control over their players. At a time when Queens Park Rangers face a possible points deduction over the Alejandro Faurlín affair, differing regulations apply to the third-placed Welsh club in the same division.
Seven days before FA charges arose against QPR in March, Digger revealed that Cardiff hold arrangements that may point to similar third-party influence over team affairs. Cardiff's director and lawyer, Alan Whiteley, denies that the agreements the club hold with the Cayman Islands-registered Player Finance Fund (PFF) constitute third-party influence. The matter is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Football League.
The arrangements pre-date the League's adoption of third-party rules at the beginning of this season. So its inquiry relates instead to whether Ray Ranson, the former chairman of Coventry, exercised any influence over Cardiff's affairs through Sport Asset Capital, his investment company, or the apparently connected PFF, as indicated in Cardiff's accounts. This would be illegal under dual-influence rules.
It is believed Ranson, who along with his friend and vice-chairman, Gary Hoffman, quit Coventry in March, denies that either he or any company connected with him has made loans to Cardiff. Complicated?
There is one simple fact, however: even if it were proved that Cardiff players were under the control of the chairman of a rival Championship club – which under FA rules might ordinarily lead to a severepoints deduction – there could be no repercussions as there are against QPR. That is because Cardiff are answerable only to the League and to the FA of Wales. An FAW spokesman said on Wednesday: "We have nothing in our statutes to cover third-party ownership of players." Surely it is time for Welsh clubs for them to yield to English rules.

Even worse is that they are only governed by the Welsh FA. If they play in the English league tehn teh FA should still be able to hold them accountable and if they don't like it then kick them out and make them play in the Welsh league instead.

I agree. They should have the same rules as us to play in the English League!

That is atrocious! How on earth can they get away with something like that? All clubs within the football league should be answerable to the football league and them only. Cardiff are crooks. In the summer they were hours away from liquidation, delayed in paying a lot of debtors and just weeks later were allowed to bring in one of the Premiership's best performers of the previous season who has fired them to a point where they just missed out on automatic promotion. This information really stinks.

I can't stand Cardiff and this makes me dislike them even more. They spend money like nobody's business and I have been praying all season that they miss out on promotion. Cos, surely there will be a mass exodus of players in the summer. They can't maintain that level of spending and get away with it.

Also Dave Jones must be a terrible manager to not get them promoted with that squad.

And another thing. Did you see the Cardiff "fans" leaving before half time against Middlesbrough? Yes the team is full of cheating whiners and divers but surely you owe your club more than thats after a season coming so close to promotion.

Rant over (and breathe)

have a question...... if " Cardiff are answerable only to the League and to the FA of Wales." why are they not caught by Football League Regulation 46 that deals with third party ownership ?

Bit rich slamming FAW when we didnt adopt the rules until the start of last season

Plus RR already issued a statement saying it was not the case

A lot more frivorously ........ RR didnt do a very good job controlling Cardiff we lost twice this season and they did the double over us in each of the last 3 seasons!!!....... or was that the plan........... oh i do love conspiracies!!!

to add a conspiracy...... strange this rears its head now when maybe he might be involved in a buy out of CCFC..... there was no need to link Hoffman into the report but what was written makes it look like that GH could have been involved at Cardiff too..... 2 + 2 = whatever you want it to be !

Slightly off at a tangent but I remember under Eric Black when we beat Cardiff 1-0 away (when Peter Clarke got sent off after about 10 seconds) - Joachim rounded their goalkeeper who cynically brought him down and won a pen for us - their keeper was red carded. The red card got ridiculously overturned on appeal by the welsh FA! At the time I think Cardiff were the only welsh team in the league - They just did it to support the Welsh team!

I already have a distinct dislike for Cardiff but now I just want them to sink without a trace. Play-off failure for them could be so costly, crosses fingers.

more concerned about whether we could be docked points if it was deemed our chairman was the one in the wrong!

I don't like Cardiff also and don't want them promoted. Another scenario that could arise would be that QPR get docked enough points that promotes the third place team. Currently Cardiff sit in third place with a chance of Swansea ousting them. Normally managers in their position would be resting players for the play offs but because of the QPR twist that third place could mean automatic promotion I would expect both teams to be full strength tomorrow.

Cardiff are a disgrace, how have they got away with owing HMRC millions with no transfer embargo, and how have they been allowed to bring bellamy in with man city paying over half the wages, they are an absolute disgrace, and are cheats and should be kicked out of the football league!
