I thought they would & should have excluded him straightawayDutch rider took our cyclist out deliberately. It's not even subtle. He should receive a ban for that.
What a great guy he seems, by the way. 21 years old. Very humble, very level headed. He'll have another chance.Thought we might get a gold in the Taekwondo then. Another Brit losing in a final. It's our thing.
She's incredible. One Olympic silver medal from her career doesn't do it justice. Does she have another Olympics in her? Feels like it might be one too far for her to be competitive.KJT just missed gold but what a fantastic athlete she is
Medal table is irrelevant for me! It is always the same and always gonna be the US and China in the Top 2 purely cause they have the biggest population and then the hosts are usually there or there abouts in third or fourthA lot of medals, but would it be fair to say a dissapointing finish on the overall table? 7th place, behind the Netherlands who picked up almost half as many medals, but crucially more Gold ones.
I think Kerr blew that. He knew he had beaten Ingebritsen and forgot about the others in the field. Great run and PB for Hocker though.Nobody thought that neither one of Kerr or Ingebritsen would win, at the end Ingebritsen looked crushed
I think the BBC were limited to what they could show as Eurosport had all the TV rights. I got sick of all the inane waffle between showing something happening and they need to sort out, ie get rid of some of the commentators especially Matt Baker & whoever is the expert in the diving & I for one won't miss the drivel that Denise Lewis comes out with. The broadcasting on the Beeb was quite poor, with a lot of chatting between events, and no "red button"/iPlayer options for multiple events on at the same time. I think it was something to do with the way the broadcast rights had been set up, but it seemed very one-dimensional and old-fashioned (pre digital era).
I didn't realise Eurosport had it as well. Whatever happened to the Olympics always be on free-to-air TV???I think the BBC were limited to what they could show as Eurosport had all the TV rights. Agree on break dancing, not sure what the race off the commentators has to do with anything tho...Just visiting this thread after all is done and dusted.
65 medals just beat Tokyo, but i'm not sure that is much of a thing to boast about - i thought there was a clear-out and post mortem after that.
I think some "teams" did really well, the rowing in particular, but for me there were too many occasions (athletics and cycling notable in this regard) where people who had won recent world championships and/or fastest time in the world this year didn't deliver and ended up with silver or bronze. Kerr and Hudson-Smith were disappointments for me.
I have been critical on this board of KJT in the past, but I think she did her best against Thiam, who i hadn't realised is such an absolutely phenomenal all-round athlete. KJT's score would have won gold at the last three Olympics, so she should be proud of herself.
We won the fewest golds in cycling than in recent years (and everyone singing Finucane's praises for her gold (in a team event) and two bronzes) and i don't think the leadership is there at the moment. I know the Dutch love their cycling, but they have really stepped up a gear (pardon the pun) on track events and knocked us down the rankings.
Martial arts were very poor for us, dodgy judging in the boxing notwithstanding - needs to lose its funding, IMO.
Fucking break-dancing in the Olympics? Get outta here! But embarrassing to hear the "commentary" by white middle-class, middle-aged white folks on the radio.
Divers were up against a phenomenal China squad who won every event, but swimming was largely disappointing, as was sailing - not helped by the idiots who chose one of t he most sheltered bays in the Med instead of somewhere on the Atlantic coast like La Rochelle, Arcachon or Biarritz, where it is always blowing a hoolie!

Roll on LA 2028.
Just that they clearly don't have a clue what is going on, and trying to use the jargon makes them sound ridiculousAgree on break dancing, not sure what the race off the commentators has to do with anything tho...
Not sure if this has been posted but explains a lot of the comments fans give athletes. 4% of you think you could get in an Olympic football team with 4 years training!!
I could see it with things like snooker or darts, obviously not Olympic sports, where you don't have to be physically active. If you put the hours day in day out you could probably get up to a half decent standard.
But for most other things you'd struggle. You'd be competing against people who have trained all their lives. Sure you can find 'i only took this up 4 years ago' stories but they will be far from the norm and I imagine a lot of the time involve someone making a switch from a different sport.
I don't doubt it!Just that they clearly don't have a clue what is going on, and trying to use the jargon makes them sound ridiculous
Bit difficult for British competitors since they have to travel to Switzerland to train.Yeah things like shooting, if you spent all day every day training.
