I thought they were Somerset! But anyway, you catch my drift. You really can't be moving teams around the country to suit.

No I do completely agree. If I were a Wasps or original Wimbledon fan I would be livid.

Somerset is the closest I could think of to football in Cornwall! :S

How do you know those people are from Coventry or Warwickshire? And how do you know how many of them are supporters of CCFC or CRFC?

I don't think anyone has the right to criticize someone else's decision on what they do in their spare time and what they spend their money on.
There are many things competing for our money and watching sports is not at the top of most people's lists.
It's an individual decision as to whether anyone goes to see CCFC, CRFC or Wasps or any other local team.
I wont go into the reasons why the attendances at CCFC are dropping because it should be obvious to anyone. I expect this decline to continue until attendances are much lower than they are now.

I agree with the OP in that the CCFC fans who watch RFC Franchise can have no complaints at all if and when SISU franchise CCFC again - this time permanently to Brum or elsewhere.

But the folk in Cov don't seem to understand what's happening at all. 7,000 at MK Dons to protest the temporary franchise to Northampton was proof of that.

They understand perfectly. The football club is not going to be franchised to another town or city. Not ever.

I really don't understand the animosity towards warwickshire on this thread. I'm a Kenilworth lad born and bred, all my family worked in the car factories in Coventry on the shop floor, and all supported City. I have a season ticket and travel from Suffolk now. If it weren't for the people of warwickshire N, Mid and South i suspect the attendances would be half what they are now. I certainly don't think the answer to our falling attendances are to alienate half of them.

Nor me. There's the idea that anyone from Warwickshire isn't a fan of the club or if they are only turns up for big games. Then there's the "it's only folk from Warwickshire" who are supporting Wasps. Wrong. I've never lived in Cov and have been going to see City since 1972. And have never, and will never, go and see Wasps.

I would love to know what the attendances would be now and would have been over the years without support from fans outside Coventry, and not just Warwickshire either. I bet a pretty good percentage of City fans like myself are from outlying areas.

If the city can't back its local sides then they deserve them to be shit, we have a football team which is reflective of our support.

Bradford City and York City.....most support Leeeds United, Yorkshire Republican Army and all that.

Obviously we can't say for sure for the upcoming match but it I think its likely the majority are from Coventry and Warwickshire considering for the opening match something like 70% of the crowd came from within 10 miles of the Ricoh and 50% within 5 miles.

I agree Torch, people get carried away with sweeping statements on here (I think we are all guilty of it at times, it seems to be part of human nature). I work with a girl from Liverpool, she supports Liverpool yet her mum who is also from Liverpool has always supported Manchester United. These things happen all over the place, it is part of living in a free society. We all get a bit jumped up about who should support who based on where they live. We don't get so animated about people supporting their local butcher and greengrocer over some franchised supermarket.

I went to watch Lieutenant Pigeon instead of that London twat David Bowie when he came to Coventry. Hardly anyone there... it's always been the same, we're fucking useless.

The problem with what you say is that you are looking at it from the wrong direction. You say we have a football team reflective of our support. But surely we have support that is reflective of our football team.

Almost two out of three fans who turned up in the first Ricoh season don't go any more. That is because of the poor product, whatever the reasons for it. Had we pushed on from that point in 2005, the crowds would still be there. Success brings in the fans. You can't expect people to turn up if there is nothing worth watching, and they don't. The downward spiral will only turn around if the team performs well enough to get the fans back. Sadly, I don't see how that can happen in the current set-up.

Cov are gunning for promotion and Blaze have just got through to the cup semi final, why arent you giving them your support?

Why don't you lead by example? The Coventry & Warwickshire sporting world doesn't start and end with Ccfc.

Don't people see the irony and hypocrisy of something like that? Appreciate that comes across as a dig but I'm honestly more curious as to why than trying to score cheap points on a football forum.

The Trust board seem particularly keen on going to Wasps games.

Blaze get decent crowds don't they? Always been fairly busy when I've been.

Certainly agree with you about people getting down the Butts. We have a rugby team in Coventry on an amazing run yet they play in front of 1000 - 1500 while 20K turn up for Wasps. Appreciate some of the Wasps crowd might be from outside the area but its still sad that more people can't be bothered to support the cities own team.

For their level both Blaze and Cov get very good crowds.

The point I was trying to make is there are thousands of city supporters who don't go near either of them because they don't like the sport. You used see on here all the time when either was mentioned "Rugby/Hockey is shit" so I don't want to go.

Which of course is fine, but then other people are equally likely to consider city to be shit and under no obligation to go. Likewise then for a general rugby fan a trip to Wasps will obviously be better than a trip to Cov.

Just a thought, but when we were a Premiership team (and I know it's not the same) and getting crowds of 20k, were we all arseholes for not filling Cov Rugby as well?

Seems to me that for the vast majority of people, they just want some entertainment. Lower league stuff doesn't tend to provide that (as we can all attest over the last few seasons) so they go for the higher stuff.

There's something like 305k people in Cov, only 5k of them are City fans. I don't even like rugby, but I've been invited to a game so I'll go for the social occassion and to see what it's all about. Much like many of those in the crowds at HR when we were in the Prem. We didn't attract 23k when Man Utd came to town because of the loyalty of Coventry people.

There's a little bit of "Old man shouts at clouds" about this thread and the general sentiment of this site. It's not some great mystery why a team higher up the leagues gets bigger crowds.
