Used to get it as a kid with my brother in law at the newsagent on Humber Avenue. Brings back memories this...the Talbot club on Humber Road, The Charterhouse...good times.

The Pink was quality and a must buy on a Saturday evening.

However, with the internet offering instant match reports I would fear that there wouldn't be the take up needed to make it a profitable venture.

It was so quick and at the time the only way of getting the results. I was so excited to buy it.
How times have changed!!!

Remember the stop press section on the back page where they printed the late scores and last racing results of the day.

I remember the Stop Press in the Telegraph. I was the subject once! I'd been involved in a hit and run on my motorbike way back in March 1970. All it said was, that I had been involved in a serious smash at the junction of Warwick Road and Greyfriars Road. That was on a Friday afternoon. I spent the night in Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital for observation and then sent home in the morning. The twat that ran into me didn't stop so police were involved, which added to the story. On the Saturday evening, I decided I'd go into town to find my usual crowd of a dozen or so mates just to have the usual meet up/piss up, and went downstairs into the cellar bar of the Tally Ho!, one of my old haunts. The looks on my mates faces was supreme! Talk about seeing a ghost! The word had got round and escalated to the fact that I had been killed in a motor-bike smash and they were all having a drink to celebrate my life! Fook me! Ever been to your own wake? :emoji_laughing:

I remember gamblers buying the latest edition of the Telegraph just to read the racing results then tossing them otherwise unread into the nearest litter bin! Walking through town in the early evening you could just help yourself to an unread copy.

Loved it as a kid in the 70s. It's now gone the way of the spinning jenny - time has kissed it farewell.

Used to go to the pub with my grandfather for about an hour after the game then hurry him up so we'd walk down to that little newsagent shop on the corner on the way to the ticket office (probably gone now). He'd pick up a box of cigs, some chocolate for me and the Pink 'un. He'd read it as he had his tea. One of the warmest memories i have of the man. Really was a part of the matchday experience back then.

Yes, "The Pink 'un". When did it stop being the Pink 'un and just became the Pink. We'd long stopped being the Bantams, but not yet reached Division One?

The Pink was the finale of the full on Saturday experience. Started with walk into town and off to the tanner rush at the Gaumont cinema sometimes the Empire, any ex members of the ABC minors club out there ? then into town to Farmer Giles cafe in the Burges for chips, peas, gravy, batch and tea all for two shilling (10p) off then to Highfield Road, into ground about 1.30 to get place on front wall in the Spion Kop any later you would struggle to see the match, final whistle mad rush to get number 14 inner circle bus back home wait at Belshaws newsagents for pink, my old man god bless him waiting at door nabbing it, he had first dibs, egg and chips in front of the roaring coal fire while watching Doctor Who followed by Dixon of Dick Green. Happy days. You can stick your I pads and x boxes where the sun don’t shine.
