"Built and owned by the council" hahahaha!
It won't be easy or cheap to convert the football stadia part into shops. You'd pretty much have to demolish it and rebuild it.

What would it take to put a roof on it ?
A fevered imagination?

Its obvious ... what do you see when you look around the surrounding area?
To say that Ricoh arena will become a white elephant without the football club really need to open there eyes. WIth the economy improving there are many investors out there looking to expanding there business portfolio. There are many options available for investors to do what they want with that stadium building.
If the roof was an option then the exhibition area could be increased and concerts would be all year.
With the prospect of becoming a city with no football team we all need to move on.
Speedway needs a new home. It wouldn't just be speedway either. You have stock rods, hot rods etc. You could also chuck a dog track around the outside. Would still be available for concerts too.
In other words its fucked.
Of course Tony are you still not taking your medication?
1 tablet twice a day, thanks for your concern.
I take it you think it's not possible. Why?
The speedway club could not afford it - the redevelopment has to be paid for and there is no public demand. Its a no go and will never happen.
From what I've read so far from everyone it seems there is no consensus about what could be done with the stadium in the long run that would provide sustainability without the anchor tenant being there?
So not so easy then is it for the Operators to come up with a plan B for themselves.
Knocking parts down, putting a roof on, converting to a shopping mall are all far beyond the financial ability of the taxpayer and with particular emphasis on a shopping mall a non starter for sure to have such an out of town complex destroying the city centre businesses.
Eventually I believe the football team will play there again. Whether SISU are the owners when that day arrives is neither here or there.
The council should sell to the highest bidder and that may not be the football club owners. If it were acquired by an outside firm who then dealt with SISU I think a new light would be shone on proceedings. It may even be that had Hoffman and co bought the Ricoh interest they then could have placed pressure on the football club to sell.
Nothing wrong with the speedway being there, the rugby, the stocks, dogs and even an athletic track added. With a multi-purpose stadium the foot traffic would be unprecedented. They would even be able to offer use of the stadium for match days free. Makes sense commercially.
Arh well can't expect forward thinking from a bunch of councillors can we?
What would you have said if ACL had put in an anchor tenant? would you have been happy about that? I would rather ACL wait until every single avenue had been completely exhausted in CCFC back playing at the Ricoh and seeing as most on here view the upcoming JR as last chance saloon, surely you would be happy that ACL have not put in an anchor tenant? However, how do you know whether ACL have been looking for an anchor tenant or not? One thing is for sure though, Sisu/Otium certainly are not interested in being an anchor tenant at this present time.
Gentlemen - I'm not saying anything, merely surmising events so far over what has or not happened to date and the angles that have always been open to the operators of the Ricoh.
I posed the original question, not as my opinion but to encourage food for thought about possible avenues and ways forward by way of encouraging you and other posters to think about it and give their thoughts, as no one seems to have much to say on the idea but plenty to say when it comes to attacking or defending either side for the sake of it.
I don't disagree with the thought either that the JR may hold the key to how the protagonist may eventually come together or depart forever. I've consistently held that view for the past year or so.
We do not know whether ACL have been looking though do we and I am sure that there would be uproar if they had got a tenant in and blocked off any chance of a return for us before the JR has run it's course. So I for one am happy that there is not an anchor tenant in there or being talked about at present. So really the only way I can answer your original question is by saying I hope they haven't got anybody lined up or are even talking to others until there is absolutely no chance of us playing there again.
Everyone knows that ACL / Higgs / CCC desire CCFC to be kicking off next season at the Ricoh. What can we do as fans to enable this to happen? That would be what i would want to discuss with ML / TF / AL / JS / PWKH but all we will hear about is the JR or a fictitious new stadium
The Ricoh was built to house a Premiership team, not sure what a First Division team could be expected to contribute.

The current Speedway track is around 300 metres long. Anything smaller then you are looking at a "trick track" The stadium is not big enough....Your probably right about the speedway club. But it wouldn't have to be them. Someone like Deane Wood (owner of Spedeworth and Incarace) who promotes short circuit motor sport in the UK and South Africa certainly could and then work out a deal with the speedway team to also use it. There most certainly is demand. It might not be a packed house every meeting but the F1 stock cars are always a big draw and try going to Ipswich on banger world final night, it's rammed. Also, all of these sports also have a fixed fixture list for a season so other events could be planned around them.

That would be ideal, but I have a horrible feeling not in my lifetime. The Ricoh was designed when we were a Prem side. By the time it was built we were a Championship side. But it served it's purpose well to start with. Then we were run like a lower Championship side which ran the risk of relegation. This happened. We are now run like a Division 3 side. When our club is back at the Ricoh we can be run like a top Division 3 side which has a good chance of promotion. Run the club like a top half Championship side and we would have a chance of the playoffs. Then the Ricoh will be fit for purpose again.

Just wanted to pose a question regarding the Ricoh arena. Forget about SISU for the moment...
Assuming CCFC do not return, then how do the stadium leaseholders and owners deal with that gaping whole that is meant to provide revenue by way of rental income, with potentially 10,20,30k fans attending games and the knock on effect of those fans spending at various other outlets within the complex? From bus companies to car parks the loss in revenue and jobs is damaging.
How can they ever replace any of that without CCFC?
I'm intrigued to know what plan the operators have for this possible permanent situation arising?
