think there was about 35,000 there that night.

Stood on the Kop and remember getting pelted with miniature bottles from the west ham fans in the sky blue stand!

Was that you running on at the end in the donkey jacket?

I was there too. I'd been to a few games before when I was even younger, but this is the first one that I really remember.

Ah, nostalgia's not what it used to be.

Did David Cross play for West ham that night? Remember him partnering Alan Green for us.

The goals we conceded were on par with those given away by the current class, so some things stay the same at least.

Yeah Danny Thomas was potentially England Class but he was a bit headless for that one .

Thompsons OG I'd probably blame Sealey ,although when passing back you're always meant to play It wide of the Sticks ,Strikers defending Eh.

Still blame Sealey though he was a bit of a disrespectful TiT.

Looked a cracking game anyway, not quite the same but I remember going to a 2-1 (I think?) comeback win at HR against West Ham in the league, Andy Morrell's winner was special.

was at highfield road and at upton park . I was arrested just before half time, massive punch up's all over the place, city fans gave as good as they got. 35 city fans in a cell made for 2, I think there were 27 west ham fans in a cell opposite. I was fined £50 at stratford magistrates. I know a great story about that night in east London if anyone wants to hear it ?

Some things never change

Almost sure I was there. At work so can't see the link. But sounds like where I first saw violence at a game. Crapped myself. 12 or 13 at the time.

Went to both games. HR was immense- such excitement. Didn't really get going in second leg but looked to be heading for extra time until Jimmy Neighbour popped up with that goal. Remember it well. My dad actually taped the commentary from the radio - and I still have the cassette tape! Also got the radio commentary of the FA Cup semi from 87

We were kept in the ground for half an hour after the full time whistle so they could clear the West Ham boys . The most of them went , the ones that wanted a rumble stayed . Running up and down lines of coaches ,sometimes chasing West Ham but most of the time retreating . Coach windows were going in. Only saw one copper all night . He was on a horse . Glad to get on coach and away

Was it 35903 or 35603?

Thomson's own goal was a strange one. For some reason I thought it was from further out than it was. But somehow I was optimistic we would win. West End.

They ought to sit the current players in front of the tv and make them watch the whole game. But we are a 3rd Division team now aren't we?

The thing that sticks in my mind was in the second leg David Cross who never ever defended a set piece spectularly cleared a Garry Thompson header off the line which would almost certainly have put us through.

Then again, given the level of violence afterwards, if we had won I hate to think how bad it would have been.

Went to both games - wasn't one of their goals offside?

Was in a coach loaded with cans - so miserable none was drunk on the way back

Copper told me that night at West Ham it was the biggest away support he had ever seen at Upton Park including London clubs. Cov held their own in the main with the infamous ICF and the evil SPG police squads. Mentioned in that ICF book by Cass Pennant who admitted they didn't expect what Cov fans gave to them.
