All sold at a young age before they really reached their best, and they all became top players, 3 England internationals there. Sold by Jimmy Hill to "make ends meet" and we put a statue up for Jim.

I truly believe had we held them together we could have been the Dominant Midlands Top Six side of Div 1 for 6-8 yrs .

I was there too with my old man, and what a great night that was.

i have memories that the return leg was called off for fog or something and the game pushed back to the following week,am I right ?

i can remember me and my dad travelling on a Tuesday to Upton Park and when we got there the game had just been called off.
can someone with a memory put me right, was this the game that was called off or am I thinking of an ordinary league game

They had the gap and there were small pockets on the kop but I don't recall them having it all. There was a small group on King Richards St side of West end, just about where the terrace curved around, and they ventured no further!

Do you remember that was the Game where our Coach got a puncture couldn't get the wheel off so we hijacked an empty coach from the service station.

Got there late followed by 2 other coaches that were lost(no sat Navs back then, just directions on a fag packet)
When we pulled up outside the ground got attacked by about 20 West Ham fans until they realised how many of us there was and ran away.
After the game most coaches had there windows put through as did the local Boozer by the cov fans who then pulled out the West Ham fans. What a day to remember......

I was at both matches - at WH was disgusted with police - they activelly encouraged home fans to attack ours then just picked on city fans

it was a disgrace as an ex pc I did complain but was warned by a thug in uniform to shut up nor be next spoiled a great night out

Was 13 years old.
Both legs were mental but the away game was insane.
Something about night games at Upton Park - always an incredible atmosphere.
Went there the following season. Got thrashed 4 or 5 - 2. Atmosphere completely different.

in those days the away fans had half the Kop next to the main stand and about 30% of the sky blue stand next to the city fans in the Kop.

miniature whiskey bottles from both sides. Don't remember them being in with us though

Remember this game like it was yesterday. And went to the return match lost 2-0 . One hell of a punch up on a foot way bridge to the ground. When cov had a firm that would take in anyone . Arr the good old days

I was there at both legs and also have the DVDs of both games. I was stood in the Sky Blue Terrace and witnessed an incredible second half display. I really thought we were going on to a Wembley final against Liverpool. My recollection is that the WH fans had the small pen near the main stand which held about 3,000. The rest of the Kop was all Cov. The WH fans were also given several blocks of seating in the Sky Blue stand. I remember that we'll as they were right behind me as I was on the terraces.

the away game was mental. The game was a huge disappointment. I was standing just to the right of the goal near the front and vividly remember David Cross doing his overhead bicycle kick to deny us what looked a certain goal. Overall though the performance was disappointing and I think a lot of the younger players froze. I was only 13 at the time so the carnage at the end was pretty scary. Fists, doc martins, bottles flying everywhere. During the game I remember the ICF chucking pool balls at us in the terrace.

on the way home we had to listen to our driver, a teacher from Bablake, going on about how crap Cov are and how they would never get to Wembley. He was a Villa fan. Thankfully one of the sixth formers told him to shut the fuck up and the rest of the journey home was more or less in silence.

I was at that game in the West End and the video posted earlier is the first time I have actually seen any of the goals or the game as I just spent the whole time being swept up and down the terrace by the crowd and couldn't see a thing. God what a night. I remember having just lit a fag and one of the city goals went in when I was putting the lighter back in my pocket- I was bounced up and down for a minute like a sardine before I could lift my hand to take the fag out of my mouth again.

The away leg was legendary- 75 city arrests I seem to remember, and it even went around London club circles that West Ham had a real battle on their hands that night.

Remember standing in the sky blue terrace aged 13 and being one of the 10,000 that went to Upton park.

Also remember a mental West End in the previous round against Watford which we won 5 - 0. When we scored one goal I was towards the back to the left of the goalmouth and when the celebrations ended I was down by the right corner flag.

Away at West Ham went with two mates in a car. Inside the ground we were in the corner pen of the South Bank being attacked by West Ham constantly, bottles flying over from the ones alongside the pitch to out left. Seem to remember some of them jumping into us from the tier above or perhaps I dreamt that. City were poor but with a few minutes to go before extra time I started to sense that we were getting stronger, then they scored from a free kick.

kept back for half an hour before a very eerie walk back to the car through deserted streets expecting attack any moment. Luckily they had obviously all gone to brick the coaches. 10,000 Cov there that night and agree that they held their own. Heard a story about a lad from Warwick with a bugle leading a charge at them. Of course if you read the Hoolie books they all make out that Cov are supported by nothing but pansies but they've all come unstuck here at some time.

Haven't read the whole thread, but I was 22 at the time - went in the Vauxhall Tavern before the game (for those who remember it) and thought - this is going to get tasty later tonight ( felt well out of my comfort zone !!!) Remember my old man commenting on how mental the City fans were behaving - ironic with the ICF in the City - very tense atmosphere, and one of the best matches ever at Highfield Road (IMHO)

I was around 12 at the time and sat in the upper tier of the West End, I remember the atmosphere being really septic and have never really experienced the same feeling since, at the end of the game we were walkiing down Catherine Street at the back of the West End, and it all kicked off , I remember cars being attacked, a mobile HotDog stall (remember them) being overturned and total mayhem, I didn't go to the away leg, but remember listening to it while I played subuteo, went to bed Heartbroken.
