Thorn: Bruno to get another try "ricky" to be told no + more trialists (2 Viewers)

BUT CITY FRINGE FAIL TO IMPRESS

BRUNO Cazarine will be given another week to earn himself a contract with Coventry City * but Ndiqim Halili is expected to be told that his services won't be required at the Ricoh Arena.
The Brazilian striker * Sydney FC's leading scorer for the last two years * and the former VfB Stuttgart winger both struggled to make an impact as a largely secondstring Sky Blues side slipped to a 1-0 defeat at neighbours Nuneaton Town on Saturday but Thorn thinks that Cazarine is worth another chance after his impressive work in training.

The City boss is also set to bring in more triallists as he continues his search for a spark at the sharp end of his attack * something that was noticeable by its absence at Liberty Way as Kevin Wilkin's lively Boro earned the local bragging rights. “You are looking for players to force their way into first-team recognition and there was noone there that really did that,“ admitted Thorn.

“There are probably one or two from Saturday who will start in the first team on the opening day of the season * everyone else was having a trial, kids or playing their first game of the pre-season and trying to impress.

“But I didn't see anything to impress me, which was the object of the exercise.

“I know what my team will be at the start of the season but this was a great opportunity for people to put themselves into the reckoning. I thought there might be one or two who would step up to the plate and force me to change my first-team plans, so that's the most disappointing thing because no-one made a name for themselves at Nuneaton where there is a bit of local pride at stake.

“Sometimes you have games like that and it brings a lot of people back down to earth.

“I don't care whether it is pre-season or not, performances like that are not acceptable and not the standards I want.

“There were eight or nine boys who weren't involved on Saturday and who will be in and around the first team.
They have done their fitness work and they will all play at Wrexham on Tuesday when it will be a good opportunity for people to stake a claim.

“That was what I wanted the lads to do at Nuneaton and in the end the fans had more enjoyment from kicking a beach ball about than watching the game.

“I sat there with Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley and said we're not going through what we went through last year again, and at times it wasn't even as good as that.

“But they've been told that if they want to play for this football club then those standards aren't good enough.
They need to be upped if they want to force their way into the first-team picture they need to be producing in games like that.“ “These boys have got a point to prove now and they'll probably get another opportunity at Accrington Stanley at the weekend because that was way off what I expected,“ confirmed the manager, who was able to take some positives.

“I was pleased with William Edjenguele and he just needs some game time.

“It was Reece Brown and Callum Ball's first games and it was good to get Cody McDonald back out on the pitch for the first time as well.“

Good to hear that he's not going to put up with the performance we saw on Saturday. Pleased he's giving Bruno another go, shame about the little German fella, though there's no direct quote so I won't read too much into that at the moment.

Yet again Thorn the Bully rips into the kids. He did it last year to Bigi and looked what happened after that. He hardly played and now looks the part at Newcastle.

He's not the best communicator is he!

Get the feeling he has a short temper and sometimes just says the first thing that comes into his head.

I think it is fine to slate the senior players and give them a kick up the backside, but with kids you need to be a bit more careful. They are just making their way in the professional footballing world and finding their feet, are probably nervous and are kids amongst men in a lot of cases.

For seniors it is a kick up the backside, but with kids it usually needs an arm around the shoulder and a bit of encouragement.

Absolute rubbish. Yet again

How?

Bigi was never the same after Thorn Made Him the scapegoat for the defeat against Burnely. He hardly played and when he did he didn't look half the player. Yet see him for Newcastle he looks different class (so far)

And all he seems to be doing for Saturday is having a go at the youngsters.

Just take off your anti-Thorn tinted glasses and read it for what it is - an accurate précis of the situation, reflecting after a poor performance. There's nothing too pointed, critical or stated to the detriment of any single player on that; and if you think there is, it smacks of overdramatised hysteria to me

Its a shame he didnt slate the likes of mcsheffrey, clingan and the other senior players last season!

Do you think it would have been right for him to have singled them out for public critisism then? And are you party to every private conversation they would have had?

We lose to Nuneaton, the manager rightly admits it was shit and he's a bully? Jesus fucking Christ, people will just search for any reason at all.

I think last season he was just trying to keep what little morale there was left after SISU ripped the squad apart.

To be fair to him he did that all season.

This season however a winning mentality is needed. We need to think like champions, and playing crap is not part of that plan. He's right to start laying into them this season if we're around 10th in the table as that's not good enough. Morale should he higher already from winning matches.

Oh and I've give them both another chance, maybe in a first team setup vrs Wrexham, but he's said Bruno has been good in training so I'm guessing 'Ricky' hasn't.

I'd give them both another shot with a bit more quality around them; although their 'showing' at Nuneaton was not memorable. From Bruno I wanted to see power and making defenders fearful and from Riqi I wanted to see speed, agility and ability to dribble, cross and use probing passes. Sadly nothing evident (yet)...

Behave. He excused every 'senior' player in that article and pinned blame Soley on the youngsters who will know doubt be on loan at Nuneaton this season because its there standard at present. Thorn has a tendency to be nicely nicey to the older lot and very harsh on the youngsters. Not anti thorn more a observation.

If he had handled Bigi better then we would have seen more from him last season. Instead he rotted away on the bench.

No he said the youngsters played shit but excused the senior players. If you bothered to read the article you'd see that!!!!

I suppose if he looked for the positives or said absolutely anything else at all, he would have been making excuses?

No!!! You lot really make me laugh.

The other week thorn said its all about fitness, performance don't matter. Then the youngsters have a bad day and Thorn rips into them. Instead he should have said, it's a friendly end off.

Here are all the Thorn quotes extracted from the post

He says he was pleased with Edjenguele. That's the only player who gets praise , and he hasn't singled anyone else out as shit, certainly not young players he's apparently 'bullying' (a nonsensical idea from the start)

Maybe you can read the article again and realise you're finding things that aren't there to justify a hilariously ill-judged pop at a football manager who's seen his football team play poorly.

Think its fair enough, god to see he is l;ooking at getting more players in still. i would be very suprised if that is all the signings done before the start of the season. Its important to nte how many regulars were not at the game and that the lads who played made up a very make shift side. Im happy that Thorn has standards that he expects to be met no matter who is playing.

And he makes excuses for Brown, McDonald and ball. Personally Hussey played well but didn't get a mention and that leaves Deegan and the youngsters.

All Thorn has done is collectively told them it wasn't good enough to force themselves into the first team. He is right to want more from them and also highlighted that they will get another chance at Acrington Stanley.
Whats wrong with that Wyken ?

Saying it's good they've got a game under their belt isn't praise. If Hussey wasn't mentioned, why are you magically omitting him from the criticism? Is it to lend weight to your notion that the young players are being 'bullied' despite none of them being mentioned either? Saying the whole team was crap isn't bullying no matter how old the average age is. The team were crap.

He singles out Edge and gave excuses for ball, brown and McDonald. Hussey played well but didn't get praise for whatever reason. That leaves the remainder of kids Deegan and trialists.

Why excuse some and not others???

I don't like players being singled out for sure. Much wiser to give the whole team a bollocking.

AT made a grave error in singling out Bigi last season ion that one game. Hope he has now learned from that mistake.

He hasn't tho. He excused some and praised one. Not hard to work out who the remainder are.

It's frustrating because only the other week he said don't judge the friendlies there only for match practice. Now he's public ally saying performances do matter?

Going back on his word?? Not the first time eh

next few friendlies will be interesting then after that .......

just a little bit of concern that there is no clear direction or a good sense of how we are going to achieve things. Early days and I am going to wait see what happens. But when you fail to get a response from a whole team in a friendly with a local "rival" it does make me wonder about a lot of things especially when tied in with performances north of the border.........

guess all will become clear in time..........

I am hoping it is a tactic that he is telling players to be awful in friendlies then we will hammer Yeovil 7-0 :)

What are the excuses? 'It was Ball and Brown's first game and it's good to get Cody back' - he doesn't say they played well or even adequately. The reason he didn't say this about the others is that it's either not their first game or have not returned from injury.

Again, if Hussey didn't get praise but you're asserting that everyone not mentioned was slagged off, this includes Hussey. Your own logic dictates it.

If you really need to bash Thorn for something, why not the more obvious thing like the team he put out losing to Nuneaton? It makes a lot more sense than a football manager admitting his team were awful being akin to bullying.
