IMO, not really. There is little evidence of perfect manager recruitment. "Track record" candidates fail (Reid), "up-and-comers" hit setbacks (Gary Johnson), inexperienced throw-ins do quite well (Nilsson). Try almost anyone - you never know who will fit.
Who knows how the chain of command works at the training ground? Atkinson's assistant eventually bested him, as did McAllister's. It can and does happen.
Atkinsons assistant? Strachan? The guy who took us down?

7.56 actually
What about Ole Gunnar Soljskaer
The vast majority of out managers since relegation hover around 31-33% win ratio, three stand out at over 40% (Dowie, Black, Nilsson) but en then two of them didnt complete a season so the stats are skewed by the initial boost. Not entirely sure that helps then, I mean how long before you pull the trigger again?
Regarding the back room: I get the impression that it's quite democratic as the player interviews tend to mention Carsley and Shaw as much (if not more than) Thorn. I also highly doubt Thorn has the confidence of someone like Atkinson to shout down his assistants. But you're right, we're just playing guessing games.
What was said exactly? and where was this Q and ALike I said, in Fishers. QandA tonight, he more or less spelt it out.
Agree Bazza. If the club and fans want rid of Thorn then give them what they want, but for God's sake get an experienced man in and don't give it to Carsley or Shaw.
But what or who do you consider inexperieneced...look at Chris Powell at Charlton!? Could Lee Carsley/ Richard Shaw turn into them....Charlton tried the experienced tried and trusted manager route look where it got them untill now!!
Loads of managers would come here. The out of work ones are always desperate to have another crack. I think getting a new manager would be easy, it's getting the right one that always seems difficult.
