SIZE MATTERS AS CITY BUILD POWERFUL SIDE

ANDY Thorn has deliberately beefed up his squad as he prepares to launch a full-on assault back to the Championship.
The Coventry City boss has already recruited five players who are six foot or over and the Brazilian triallist, Bruno Cazarine, will be a sixth if he is signed up by the Sky Blues.

The 29-year-old who was leading scorer for the last two seasons with Australian A-League club Sydney FC, also knows as the Sky Blues, certainly packs a punch.

Loan striker Callum Ball is a well-built 6ft 3ins, as are the 6ft 2ins centre-backs Kevin Malaga and William Edjenguele, the leaner and more athletic Reece Brown and midfielder Kevin Kilbane.

Diminutive midfielder John Fleck bucks the height trend at just 5ft 6 ins tall but more than makes up for it with his stocky physique.

“You need some height and steel in your team but you also need some people who can play and they can all play,“ insisted Thorn, who is confident he's got the balance right with a strong spine to the team.

“When you look at other teams who have got promoted in the past they have all got height in their team and all look strong boys and it's important that we have a presence about us. You need that in whatever league you are in but we also play football as well.

“It's what we have gone for.
There has been a lot of work gone into it over the summer to prepare for what we have needed and when we have got targets it has been brilliant.

“It's totally different when you walk out onto the training pitch now. There's competition for places now and there's a real size about us as well, which is good.

“I think we're a different proposition now. I was chatting with Shawsy and Carso and we look a unit now, which has always been our aim with good footballers as well.“

Yes - I'd hope it would be that Cazarine bloke! Silky touch for a big man and really brave - could be ideal.

Also - when you look at it, we HAVE now added lots of height to the team. And there was me moaning we only sign dwarves!

Andy's quote suggests to me that Reece Brown will feature in the spine of the team - so central midfield I reckon.

We really still need a back up poacher. This guy will be good with bell for the big an role but his goal scoring apart from oz is not great

Where would Cody fit in if we had 2 other strikers over 6'? Play with 3 strikers?

Living in Oz I've seen him plenty of times live and on the box. He is pretty good at winning headers a little on the slow side and to be honest he isn't massive or scary.

He is somewhat a fox in the box and his ratio of goals via his head or foot is around 60/40. He wanted to stay playing for Sydney FC called the Sky Blues but they fooked him around after some impressive displays.

The Lub is a basket case due to poor management and lots of turnover of staff. All the same he could do a job for us but he ain't no target man. Hope this helps.

Fair enough. As long as he's not employed as a target man (or he is and assuming the post is incorrect) then I'd still be v.happy with this lad!

All I know is that the poster is legit, lives in Oz as he says and has been posting on GMK for years.

The australian a league is very underated in my oppinion. The standard would be lower prem to upper championship.
I hope we have already signed him now the world has been alerted !!!

Bruno and Cody first choice, Ball and ROD as backup.

Pretty nice situation to be in considering last season when we had absolutely no depth up front whatsoever.

ROD has to go. Simply has to.

No-one seems to want him though. I can see a season long loan with us sending him out somewhere.

Messi, Xavi, Iniesta .... ;)

One for the Ant-Thorn to get their teeth into :D (although tbh I have always prefered height and strength that was lacking last year)

What a turnaround! first we scream at SISU for selling our players and youth and leaving us short, now some are saying we should sell 3 strikers beacuse we have too many. Bizzare.

I do not think Cody will go, i doubt he is a high earner so nothing to gain by getting rid. Squad is coming together nicely, just want to get season under way soi we can actually see how good they all are.

We wouldn't have to have them all on the pitch at once to be fair-could simply have Cody or Sheff playing off one of them as target men.

I think the Australian league is about on par to league 1 & 2, so he could do quite well here. Really don't think the Aussie leagues on par with the premier league, that's just madness!
