Those hoping for WASPs demise (1 Viewer)

As I said the other day, it would be dangerous to plan for our future in the hope Wasps get it wrong.

How can wasps claim victory on exhibitions already booked in before they bought ACL?

Oh well, another kick in the teeth for us ccfc fans. Don't worry though, they'll be rolling over and letting us have a bit of revenue/profit and low rents going forward.....

Just to go off on a slight tangent here, but do we think for a second that had Sisu got their hands on the stadium they would have planned extra restaurants and bars and food outlets?

Lol more spin.

Thee is one very interesting bit in there though.

It doesn't say wasps are

did ACL pre WASPS, pre Sixfields have the right caliber of person maximising the potential of the facility, were a local council with their influence suited for such a venue, I think WASPS have probably just employed better people then previos management, so disappointing as it could have been us.

This is absolutely nothing to do with Wasps, what a load of spin! Given the lead times involved it would appear this a result of ACL bucking their ideas up after we buggered off to Sixfields. Of course since then the person responsible for this upturn has been replaced with a former Wasps player.

As Grendel says the hotel change of management is interesting. Weren't all the contracts impossible to break when SISU talked about purchasing unencumbered?

The rest of it sounds nothing more than a bit of a refurb.

I suspect it will be 2 - 5 years before we get a true picture of how ACL is performing under Wasps ownership.

Could they not buy the lease off De Vere? Was it due to expire and being renewed?

Probably but you'd expect Marriott to buy directly from DeVere if there was to be a change. Doubt it will be much more than a rebrand so in reality not much will be changing.

Its all very positive and again highlights the issue that we have missed out. I dont think many (if any) want Wasps to fail but its more of a case of 'look what you could have won' which sticks in people's throats.

. Of course since then the person responsible for this upturn has been replaced with a former Wasps player.

who replaced who cd?

Not really unusual is it a change in who runs a hotel franchise. Perhaps one deal has ended and there is no great mystery about breaking contracts etc. We are unlikely to be told I suspect

I would agree that the lead time to the events etc is longer than the 4 mths Wasps have been there and this amounts to a lot of spin

I think part of the rationale for selling on was because the Ricoh needed to be refurbished in order to maintain its market position and the original shareholders didn't have the inclination or funds to do it. So this sort of expenditure going forward is to be expected isn't it

I also agree it will be a number of years before we see whether the Wasp purchase has been successful for them and for ACL. I would be worried though if the SISU strategy is sit in and wait for failure as some suggest because that must also have implications for the funding of CCFC surely

This success be it spin or not should have been ours

Interesting how there's 2 PR articles within the space of an hour. Crank up the PR Machine.

More bars are always welcome I'd say. Drinking in the casino is a soulless experience.

As for Wasps succeeding or failing, I still think it's wait-and-see. I suspect that is the club's plan too, given the singular lack of progress on the new stadium. We are where we are, and it's all a lot bleaker for CCFC now that Wasps have ACL imho. I see little to celebrate here, apart from the fact I might be able to buy overpriced beer in a slightly better venue on matchdays.

Where will they fit the bars? Will you need to go in the main concourse way to access them and then off that corridor?

well looking at it from a marketing point of view Nick then you would keep putting out the positive PR wouldn't you

The main competition for bums on seats is CCFC and nearly everything that comes out of the club is negative, disbelieved, confused, attacked, or relating to relegation from the 3rd division. If you were sitting in the Wasps PR department you would want to show the difference without actually attacking CCFC in any way. The Wasps PR machine is professional and effective. It is highlighting success and linking it to success on the pitch at the highest club level. It is highlighting that Wasps are prepared to spend money and make deals. The contrast is there without them actually saying it isn't it

CCFC are battling a tide with poor resource on and off the pitch, little finance and little quality. I find it very worrying for the future of CCFC

Should have been so very different

Oh yes I can see why and don't doubt it.

That article appears at the same time as a ticket sales article. Quite obvious to sell a few more tickets....

what I do see is a lot more energy from Wasps & their management to get people through the doors. Granted control of the ACL is a major help in this but there does seem to be a far positive approach from them compared to all the Ccfc ownership/management since the initial Ricoh move.

Another telgraph article that tells you very little, whilst pretending to tell you lots.

Perhaps they entertained Simon with a nice lunch whilst telling him the hotel contract had changed and they were tarting up a few bars, and he felt compelled to write such an article. Its hardly world breaking news.

Proof will be in the accounts over the next few years of their success...or not.

It's a Wasps announcement that the Telegraph have copied.

Can't help think that Wasps are just ignoring our managements silliness and carrying on regardless without us.
We can either get on board and get start dovetailing into the changes or we can sit outside and just watch.

Our management are brain dead in regards to the potential of the Ricoh.

I would say the extra bars and food outlets will be targeted at the 24/7 365 day usages of the Ricoh.

Someone on my Twitter feed retweeted the press release from Wasps this morning. I did notice that within minutes it was on the CT website, as the lead story no less.

Compare that to how long, 4 or 5 days I think, it took to get the story that SP had reached an agreement with SISU and we weren't being wound up after all.

Bit of salt rubbing wounds going on by the look of it but on a lighter note it's nice to see Psgm1 is still alive and kicking . Oh how I miss his inane ramblings .

But to be fair, and without sticking up for the CT, there has been no official announcement from the club about SP's settlement. Whereas the Wasp's stuff is taken from statements issued by the rugby club.

If anything it goes to show how PR or media unfriendly the club are. Only place I can find the settlement mentioned is on the SCG/Directors meeting notes and they seem to have come out on Easter Monday. The article was on Wednesday.

Despite the sceptism of most concerning anything the CCFC directors do I would be making sure the right spin was put out every time a problem was addressed and solved. Keep putting out positive tangible stuff and who knows one day it might actually be reflected in the mentality at the club

We are only matchday only tenants, unless wasps allow us to buy shares there is no dovetailing to be done. In fact the article seems to want to draw distinction between the stadium and wasps as separate companies. They are going to carry on with out us, because we are only matchday only tenants.

Could have been so different just a few short months ago.

Oh well... The Ricoh beginning to look like the same type of white elephant the Millennium Dome was.

This could have been us SISU if you had played your cards right.

Just heard Eastwood on the radio, he knows he has the Coventry public and football club wrapped around his finger. Probably pissed himself laughing when he hung up at how easily it is too fob off those asking questions.

He had it spot on when he said people are passionate about the Ricoh (a lot more so than the football club it seems)

Just one of many slaps over the next 250 years, yet some people won't care because they can get better quality food.

Also said the football club play twice a many matches a season as Wasps and are very important to there business (ie making Wasps successful)

People's hatred for SISU made his job (and his PR team) a LOT easier.

Does go to show that ACL as an outfit was doing a pretty shit job before Wasps got hold of them.

Didn't Fisher suggest bringing in an outside party (AEG) to run the other side of the stadium as it wasn't being maximised properly?
