I have to be honest and say that I failed to find anything politically I could really agree with regarding Tony Benn but he was an admirable orator and passionate politician. Some of his writings, particularly regarding his late wife, are extremely moving and highly recommended.

It amuses me when the likes of Cameron and Milliband roll out their platitudes and mock tributes. They seem curiously small compared to (Viscount) Anthony Wedgewood Benn.

Yes agreed
We seem to have a say what you want to hear type of politician nowadays, not say what you believe and vote for me or not.

A true CONVICTION politician,

A very rare breed today

Yes Cloughie but a few of the modern breed of our elected ones took it a stage further by becoming CONVICTED politicians - (sorry couldn't resist it)

There is not an MP ( former of present ) who has not been on the political gravy train , no matter what side they batted for.

nor have half the country but they all continue to post about what a great man he was. He was before my time so cannot say if he was a great man or not.

Most people who were 18+ in the early 80's will definately have heard of benn. You don't get tagged "the most dangerous man in Britain" for anonymity.

I may have been born in 1990 but as an ardent republican, people like Benn who managed to become MPs but also retained their republican views, and weren't afraid of voicing them, give me a little bit of faith in some of those at Westminster. Dennis Skinner another one, and his blunt honesty on the monarchy will be missed when he retires too.

He believed in lots of things. His behaviour along with his fellow comrade Eric Heffer gave thatcher a free ride during the 80s as labour were unelectable and damaged almost beyond repair.

If you are being serious, then you need to broaden your horizons to this world,

but it'll be a case of 'if i knew then what i know now' when you grow up

Each party goes through phases of being unelectable. Very unsure who's going to win the next election, particularly if the Scots (of which for the purposes of the referendum I am one) decide to leave.

probably one of the very few politicians who actually thought & believed in people,
i hold no flag for any party, nevertheless, i would champion his ethic for humanity,
... name a politician who doesn't have an agenda to suit themself,
tony benn, i feel was unique in the respect that he was always awake & aware

I know who Julius Caesar was even though it was well before I was born.

Tony Benn was a legend.
