I'm hoping and reasonably confident of a win. Confidence should be high after beating Wycombe Wanderers 4-1 and hopefully Tranmere Rovers will be feeling jaded having to play three games in seven days.

Their pitch looks like a farmers field. Can't play around at the back like we usually would I guess. Don't think it will affect team selection but maybe you could sacrifice Shipley or Westbrooke for Baka/Biamou if you are going to go more direct. Seems mad changing it after that win but the pitch does look like shit.

This will be the first time I have been to Tranmere. I have just read on the Guide to Football Grounds site that there is a strict residents only parking scheme around Preston Park. Does anyone know how far this extends or have the name of a road outside the zone we could park in? Don’t mind. 20-30minute walk.

Don’t know about street parking but I’ve just sprung a fiver for the official car park, via their ticket site. Print at home.

Our record at Prenton Park isn’t very good, even lost there years ago in the FA cup when we were top division side and Tranmere third or fourth, time to change that and I think we will.

We lost there in an FA Cup reply in our first season in the top flight. I think George Hudson was playing for them.

I'm expecting MR to make some changes purely due to fatigue.
Win this and I think we can start to cast an eye towards the autos.

i would play same team as its more important than fa cup game

however that depends on player fitness

westbrooke or shipley may get a rest for allen

possibly mcallum for mason but i cant see many others

Bogey team (the Tranmere fan forum web site lists our last win there in 10 attempts as being in 1938 and they are the only team to beat us so far at St. Andrews) .
Boggy ground (even Tranmere fans feel the poor playing surface will be to their advantage).
While I don't want to take away anything from our win at Wycombe, they played a midweek game, while we had the whole week to rest and be ready.
We seem to play down to the level of mediocre opponents and raise our game for the better teams.

So all things considered, I expect this to be a tough match. We cannot be complacent after 2 wins on the bounce, have a plan B if our passing game doesn't work on the poor pitch, be less wasteful in the final third than the last time we played Tranmere and be ready to make substitutions early. With only 5 points separating the 2nd and 10th placed teams, it's almost as if a new season starts all over again in 2020. If we can more or less replicate our form at St. Andrews in our "away" matches and continue to do well at "home" and perhaps 1 or 2 key loan signings in Jan (as promised by MR) without any major losses in terms of outgoing transfers or injuries could potentially propel us to the autos (fingers crossed).

I think if all fit then would be sorely tempted to name an unchanged side for third game in a row - due to no boxing day game they should still be fresher than Tranmere in theory?

I do like two up front I am afraid to say so if we have to rest one of the midefielders would like to add Baka/Biamou/Hiwula up top with Godden if we need to go more direct.
However would keep unchanged team for thrid gam running to aim for third win running.

Could get minutes in substitutes legs in the FA cup game.

No one should really need resting, we only played half a competitive game on Sunday,

Happy to start the same team but if its clear the pitch is stifling our play Id like to see Robins be proactive and go more direct. This is the exact fixture where the need for a "plan B" is so important.

When you think, we have only lost 2 out of 11 away, the games we have drawn from winning positions, and the fact we were winless until now will have played on their minds. Also we were making a good few mistakes in front of goal earlier on,playing out from the back, which mainly seems to have been dealt with.
I wouldn't be surprised if we will go on to win about half our remaining away games now we have won one.
3-0 win for me.

After the excellent Wycombe win (some of which I think is due to our bye on Boxing Day) you'd hope we'd go into this with a lot of confidence. I just hope we don't go in overconfident as that's been our downfall before.

Tranmere seem to be a bit of a bogey team, we tend to drop points against teams we should be beating at the lower end of the table because they defend against us and don't allow space (as we saw at St Andrew's) and the Tranmere pitch is apparently quite a poor surface and may not suit our normal game as much. Even with the short period between games we should still have a bit more in the legs than them unless they make a lot of changes.

MR will almost certainly go with the same team although I'm not sure if an extra striker against a team looking to defend may not be a better option. Hopefully Biamou will be fit and available to provide the alternative. It wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for MR picking a starting formation and then refusing to alter it from them on in.

Shipley will likely need replacing just after HT, for Allen and Westbrooke shortly after around the hour for either O'Hare or Biamou depending on how the games going. Part of me would rotate McCallum and Mason but McCallum's more attacking instincts are more likely to be suited to this game and Mason could then give him a rest in the cup fixtures.

So only difference I'd have in the squad would be Biamou to replace Baka if he's available.

Part of me really fears this might be another 1-0 defeat after running the game but I'll go with a nervy 2-1 win but hope to smash 5 or more past them to make up for St Andrews

Had to read up on the Al Gore comment. I remember the controversy about that film.

I just think the league is acting in a different way from last year to this year. The environment is almost the same. Just think it is a lot closer amongst a lot of teams with the few at the bottom of the table have already resigned themselves to dropping down a league. Bolton Wanderers are always good keep an eye on. They may not pull off the Houdini trick of avoiding relegation but they are giving it a good go.

We must consolidate after Wycombe and I'd be surprised if we did not win. Shippers has a new position slightly more forward in support of Godden and he looks more effective there.
Same team starts but expect Allen will feature and become a regular. Kelly and Walsh do what they do. O'Hare chomping at the bit. Hiwula also looking to get back in means perssure on whoever gets the nod or their place is under threat. I accept the pitch could ruin our game but we should have enough.
