The Hoffman offers for the club were not seriousGiven Sisu declined various offers from Hoffman for the club I think it’s highly unlikely Sisu simply walked away and gifted it to King. They could have sold Vik, Hamer, Sheaf etc in the Jan then walked away if that had been their plan.
Yes it still was, because:The Hamer deal fell on his lap, and if Bik does go for €100m in Jan was £20m a great price?
Yes it still was, because:
Gyokeres has grown in value since leaving through performing well domestically in the top flight, in Europe and internationally
He wasn't going to sign a new contract with us so if we had him in January he'd go for zip
We get a decent chunk of that sell on, so if it is €100m that's another €10m within months of having sold him

What do you think he was worth then?
He was worth about what we got for him. We had one serious bidder and a player intent on joining them. We had to sell him realistically within that summer window.
It was for a Championship club with him in the last year in his contract.

Well that’s my point. We got about what he was worth. It wasn’t some amazing deal. I think people felt it was because they underestimated inflation and quite how good Vik is (as we always do with elite players that pass through us)

We had 3-4 bids knocked back from sporting. Only slight issue for me is I would’ve obviously preferred the higher sell on which was rumoured at one stage
Player power forced the move though

I think people are still reeling from the play-off letdown (Probably because that was our best shot even though we’d have been as bad as the others that went up). Plus a lot of people backed the club and quite rightly expect something resembling a good team on match day. It was always sold as a five year project.
We'd have been lucky to get half what we did for Vik according to many on here. The Hamer deal fell on his lap, and if Bik does go for €100m in Jan was £20m a great price?

Hamer many were resigned to him going for free.
Yes because I don’t think a Championship player has been sold for more than £40-50 million.
We could end up with approx £35m for Gyokeres when comparatively, Brentford sold Watkins (3 years on contract) for about £30m.
The only way we were getting a better deal for Gyokeres was if we got promoted and stayed up.
Promotion and subsequent relegation back to Championship and our cap would be roughly £40m - roughly the same as Maddison to Spurs.
In the end, we got a really good deal. Not much more to say on that.
Well that is indeed fair. However Gyokeres's fee was also fair given he was untried at the top level and had his heart set on a move to one particular club.I would also not like many in here negotiating our transfers.

Well we've already ascertained despite zero football experience we'd rather have him do it than half this board!Fair sure, evidence of Doug’s negotiating prowess I’m yet to be convinced.
What’s inflation been doing recently?
Or somebody just gave him the platform to get better exposure.I dunno. I don’t think you can compare transfers. Each windows market is different each player is different. I’m just saying if (and it’s an enormous if) Vik goes for €100m in Jan then there’s an argument we undersold him.
I still can't believe he's the same player we had on loan! What we also were, in hindsight, was so lucky he didn't show it during that loan spell and price us out of buying him there and then!Yeah I mean it’s not like I’ve watched him and as we know he’s capable of coming back for a season a level above where he was. I can accept he’s genuinely twice the player now.
We were so lucky to have him.
Maybe we need to reclaim the Gyokeres thread from the insanity!I’m so confused were discussing the Gyokeres deal in this thread and Dabo in the Gyokeres deal thread.
I was and still am happy with the deal there were very few voices (if any) on here saying Vik was worth more. If you look at some of his finishes this season he has definitely taken it to a new level. Doug just owning us strengthened our hand as everyone knew Sisu didn't have a pot to piss in so would sell him cheap. Now for a big chunky sell on fee please!
Not true. The Hoffman offers for the club were not serious

Gyokeres was worth about 10-12m still is. Hamer probably 12m. I reckon King got about 10m more than he should have.
Do you ?On topic: Would love to see us drop £1-2m on a couple of Vik/Gus/Sheaf style players. Or do we think Saka and Thomas are that?
Gyokeres is worth 10 million what are you on about he’s worth about 55/60Gyokeres was worth about 10-12m still is. Hamer probably 12m. I reckon King got about 10m more than he should have.
