Totally agree. They will out bid scp , just very surprised someone thinks johnsons that good? He's ok young but nothing special. Then other clubs will put the money up for him! At the moment despite all the speculation, it appears his best and only offer is from Sporting
Expect mediocrity then, if none of player sales go into the team we’ll be in a relegation battle

having said that, getting the infrastructure right is important
after a great season last year, this summer will prove what he’s about, can’t say I’m confident
Maybe if they had a better striker they wouldn't have struggled as muchThat's ridiculous. Johnson has more than proved himself in the Premier League in a struggling team.
What I said above mate, agreedJanuary is a terrible window to do decent business in. Plus we have a lot of rebuilding to do. So for me I will judge over two summer transfer windows not one.
£4/5 million would be a bit shit in my opinion, with anomaly of selling a player for £20 million. I think even SISU may have given 4 or 5 back from 20.
Unless of course we get a lot of freebies on decent wages.

AgreeIve said before i think we need £10m spending. But if we spend £7/8m I won’t spit my dummy unless both Hamer and Vik go. Anything less than £5m and keeping Hamer will be a serious disappointment for me.

Thought we had no debt, would that have included the EFL loan.
Sheffield United I suspect they’ll want him in the Prem, took 2 last year who were key in their promotion

I think we'd go to about £4m for a proven striker, presuming we get c. £20m for Vik. We might spread the net and buy 2 or 3, and maybe get a loan but losing so many goals we have to be looking at serious targets rather than taking a punt.No chance are we going to be spending anywhere near 3.5m mate
Well that's a cheerful thought. Not to worry though, as who needs to think about the stadium before buying a football club! The biggest gap the club are going to have to fill is the hike in rent. Judging by some of the comments from those within the club I'd imagine it is extortionate and the commercial deal - i.e. F&B/parking etc. is somewhere in between of less than great to practically non-existent.
Fab player. Would love him here. Can't see it ever happening though.
He needs to strike a balance. That 20m won’t be going into transfer fees, or very little anyway, training ground upgrades, CBS pitch etc and wages for free’s is much more likely. None of it is coming out of Doug’s pocket.
He needs to strike a balance.
Of course the infrastructure needs massive improvement, but at the same time you can't totally neglect the team at it's expense. That is, after all, the product you're selling so it has to at least be of a half decent standard now. Failure to provide that will see all that infrastructure potentially going to waste as revenue goes down due to poor play/results.
A squirrel doesn't stash nuts for the winter if it's starving, as it might not get to winter if it doesn't eat now..

I can predict what is going to happen now.
We are going to go into a week before the season still needing 7-8 players due to the quantity we need to fill a team.
Our first few games we will play a makeshift team with Mark Robins saying new signings are 'Immanent', and have a poor start because of this.
We'll then make about 4 panic loan signings on the last day of the transfer window who will take some time to get up to speed. All of whom will be 18-19 year olds with no prior experience anywhere.
tends to be our transfer policy recently - i really hope we can get some things sorted early to put my doubts to ease!
We brought in a defender when we had few, we brought in wing backs who (taking aside whether we think they were good or not!) came from clubs with a pedigree, and one came with experience in this division.January is a terrible window to do decent business in. Plus we have a lot of rebuilding to do. So for me I will judge over two summer transfer windows not one.

Our recent transfer policy, even on a lower budget, during the summer has seen most of our signings done in July.I can predict what is going to happen now.

Yeah it was a clue that something was off last season, when no bugger turned up for pre-season training. Up until that point Robins had got the players he wanted in relatively early. Our recent transfer policy, even on a lower budget, during the summer has seen most of our signings done in July.
July 1st for fitness, July 3rd for full. First friendly, July 18th?When do the players report back to Ryton? because im my opinion we need the bulk of our new recruits in the door in and around that day. Im sure we will get a few nearer the start of the season but we need a least 7 1st team players in and around working with the group and coaches.
Sorry but your opinion is irrelevant. Yes it’s not ideal but the transfer window is still open after the season starts and some players may be available that were not at the opening of the window. When do the players report back to Ryton? because im my opinion we need the bulk of our new recruits in the door in and around that day.
