Dragging this back to policy, have any of the die hard constitutionalists mentioned how Trump is going to overturn the 14th amendment?

Trump said he wanted to do away with the constitution. He did also say that aside from ‘perhaps’ Abraham Lincoln no president had done more for ‘the blacks’ than him.

Perhaps he was being ‘economical’ with the truth in both cases. Perhaps.

Sets a risky precedent though. He overturns the 14th and the next Dem president has a way to over turn the 2nd.

One big difference. Trump has the trifecta, any Democrat will not have the SC for decades to come.

SC isn’t involved in amending the constitution AFAIK, you need 2/3 of the house and senate then 3/4 of states. Which I can’t see Trump getting to repeal the 14th.

Doesn't the President have to literally take an oath to uphold the constitution? Maybe he had his fingers crossed behind his back or something...

I wonder if it’s an intentional ploy. Ending birthright citizenship is likely to be ruled unconstitutional and they must know that and want the focus to be on the libs loving immigrants.

I'm sure you're right. It's a(nother) culture war trigger point to reduce focus on what President Musk/Trump is doing elsewhere. "Look at these libtards upholding the constitution!"

They will make exactly this argument when the time comes.

What do you mean by “the nonsense”?

Pendulums swing, I’d agree that we probably need to swing back in some areas, but the concern that once that swing back starts it’ll also go too far the other way as pendulums do is a fair one.

I’ve got mates in America genuinely concerned they’ll lose their job for having the wrong political beliefs. And maybe Trump is just joking, or maybe he’s not, it’s the uncertainty.

People have been losing their jobs for 'right wing' or 'gender critical' beliefs all the time under Biden, suddenly you are concerned.

In the USA the first amendment permits free speech and Trump has said that will be respected and has just signed an executive order to end government censorship. Restoring Freedom Of Speech And Ending Federal Censorship – The White House

A lot of jobs are likely to be culled but probably because they are jobs that support policies that clash with Trump's policies or are seen an unnecessarily wasteful of public money.

Over the last 4 years, the previous administration trampled free speech rights by censoring Americans’ speech on online platforms, often by exerting substantial coercive pressure on third parties, such as social media companies, to moderate, deplatform, or otherwise suppress speech that the Federal Government did not approve.

Under the guise of combatting “misinformation,” “disinformation,” and “malinformation,” the Federal Government infringed on the constitutionally protected speech rights of American citizens across the United States in a manner that advanced the Government’s preferred narrative about significant matters of public debate. Government censorship of speech is intolerable in a free society.

Can anyone who has been on Twitter, or any social media for that matter, in the last few years convince me that they have all been censored and forced to only air left wing views and things that stand up to scrutiny when fact checked?

Of course the first amendment protects that. So why does Trump want to imprison people for burning the flag?

Are you seriously- I mean genuinely- so stupid that you believe Trump welcomes all views including those expressing concern about him & his polices? He’s already said he’ll try to discredit & go after people who have spoken up in opposition to him.

Whoosh. You missed the point about censorship, it's about not being allowed to express your point of view or certain narratives freely rather than agree with something you do not support. As for so called 'fact checkers', who is paying for them, I'll wager someone with vested interests of their own.

Trump sued Bill Maher for millions of dollars over a joke. He sued a book company for including direct quotes of his that he didn’t like. Recently he sued pollsters who forecast him to lose certain states in the election.

The idea he’s a free speech champion is absurd.

Unfortunately for Team MAGA, that well known liberal justice Scalia ruled that burning the flag was a protected act of free speech. So why does Trump disagree?

I didn't know that.

I just looked at what Trump said, it was something that came up during the election campaign in summer last year, just as I said a political stunt and it would need an amendment to the constitution to enact, in short it never was a serious policy just a typical Trump headline grabber and you're seizing on it as somehow important.

Politicians do that, there are plenty of clips of Starmer pledging support for WASPI women and saying the Tories are going to remove the Pensioner's winter fuel allowance for support then what does he do when in office, promptly removes the winter fuel payment and rejects any compensation for WASPI women. All politicians are liars and hypocrites.

He’s got form for this after he torpedoed Bidens immigration reforms. I think they know without fear of immigrants they lose a lot of their base.

Wild claim with no evidence. Ditto censorship on twitter when people signed up to Terms of Service when they joined.
Colour me surprised.
Trumpers, the far right and conspiracy theorists are always the victim.
