Most trainees don't make the grade.Just thought if wasps take over higgs were they going to get kids from for there academy surely that would destroy cov rugby club as well, lads they would have picked up will go wasps, that way wasps are killing two cov clubs with one stone.
You'd be looking at more than 3 or 4 a season. How many did we offer contracts this year, 6 wasn't it? So paying fees similar to Jones for 6 players is a big chunk of money to come from somewhere.Isnt that what they have started doing with acquisitions like Jones ? Attract players by offering a clear progression to first team and good training & facilities? They have already it seems built a core development squad so it would possibly need an influx of three or four each season to keep it ticking on
When the inevitable restructure of academy borders takes place to suit Wasps I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised to see those impacted take legal action. They will have invested time and money into their setup and won't be happy to let Wasps walk in and just take over.Just thought if wasps take over higgs were they going to get kids from for there academy surely that would destroy cov rugby club as well, lads they would have picked up will go wasps, that way wasps are killing two cov clubs with one stone.
With respect CD you did not answer my question about how you would spend the budget..... and you are not losing the academy just spending less. The club has no money and the budgets are usually set at the beginning of the season. Any kids we currently have in the academy will most likely stay over the next couple of years anyway so what exactly are you losing?
Do you preserve the status quo with the academy producing players that are then sold to balance the books while the club slowly declines? it could be argued that this Cat 2 academy has not given us anything but relegation football for the last 15+ years. I acknowledge it has produced some fine players and probably turns a profit for the club but where is it getting the first team? There is no reason that a cat 3 academy could not produce the same quality of players that have come out of the academy over the last 10. With regards to going else where Leicester and WBA regularly take kids from Coventry into their academies.
This is just an alternative view regarding the way the club might be looking at its choices. like you I would like to do both.
Who/what age groups are you referring to exactly? I can only speak for the U16-U21 age groups but I can't think of any Coventry born players who are currently playing for Leicester (or West Brom) whereas Ben Stevenson, George Thomas and Tom Bayliss are all from Leicester. There's also a promising player who'll be an U16 next season and he's also from Leicester.
Pretty sure Kirkland was from Leicester too and he was eventually sold on for £6m
By the time that promising 16 year old bears fruit there will be no academy left we will be going the way of Brentford I'm afraid..unless we get our finger out somehow.Who/what age groups are you referring to exactly? Kirkland is from Leicester, and isn't John Eustace a Brummie?

Well partly from the player sales perhaps, but I said a development squad so players do not have to be straight from academies. There is already a development squad in place which is outside the current academy set up, the costs are already met. The club has £600k pa to play with and would be in no worse position if it spent that but might generate several saleable or first team players of the right standard instead of the odd value success. Buying players in if they have to but there are free agents and other options.
In fact buying players in would be buying assets not a revenue cost like an academy. So in theory it could show CCFC as more profitable in terms of the accounts
Like I said without the details of the proper process and finances it is not clear to me if it works but other clubs do it. A Cat 2 Academy is in place but is it the only option?
I am not trying to pick a fight here, but closing academies is the wrong way for English football. It will lead to fewer talents being spotted, groomed and developed to reach senior level. It will lead to even more foreigners playing in the leagues. It's the wrong direction - on national level.

Jamie Clapham reverting to the role he started in?Is OSB correct? Is this just more cost cutting - bit worried by Andersons statement about departure of Lee Glover - are they going to save money by not replacing him or am I reading too much into it
Anderson said in CT
“We’re looking to integrate the 21s more with the first team and Lee helped to start that process which we hope to develop so they spend more time systematically with the first team next season and hopefully build on the work he’s been doing.
