I'm not one for excuses, but theres been a lot of enforced rotation already this season, and that is likely to have had a knock on effect on the performances so far.
Fingers crossed we can get people back over the international break and we can send out a settled xi for a few games.
Here's a list of the changes we've made so far this season, some of which will be tactical, and some will be restoring our "first choice" but it seems like theres been a lot of rotation in our starting line-up already this season.
QPR- Dabo back in to replace Pask, Shipley in for Kelly.
Barnsley - Sheaf in for Shipley.
Bournemouth - Shipley in for Allen.
Brentford - Pask in for Dabo, Rose in for Ostigaard, Allen in for Hamer, Bakayoko in for Shipley.
Swansea - McCallum in for Pask, Shipley in for Bakayoko.
Blackburn - Kelly in for Shipley, meaning Allen also moved from the defensive midfield role into the attacking midfielder role.
Middlesbrough - Ostigaard in for Rose, Hamer in for Kelly, Shipley in for O'Hare.
Reading - Rose in for McFadzean (Ostigaard moving from RCB to CB), Dabo in for Mccallum, Biamou in for Allen
Forest - McCallum in for Dabo, McFadzean in for Hyam (With Ostigaard moving from CB to LCB). O'Hare in for Shipley.
Players like Ostigaard, McCallum, Shipley and Allen have all had to play multiple positions in the team.
I know this season was always likely to see more rotation due to the truncated nature of it, but it seems like we've had quite a bit. Might ask one of the twitter analytics guys to take a look into it and see if we've had more rotation than other teams in the league
That is relatively standard rotation in this division particularly where games are coming thick and fast and suspensions also added to rotation of course I don't think that has made that much difference and we have had a pretty settled 18 in all honesty.
Whats more the Reading game which we won we made three team changes - one of the highest on that list above,,,,
It's definitely much higher than previous seasons as expected but I don't think it's necessarily disproportionately high compared to other teams in the division.
The critical factor is, with one of the weaker squads at this level, we are much less equipped to deal with it.
More established Championship teams (with bigger budgets) can bring in almost like for like replacements whereas with us certain positions are absolutely key.
For example our wing-backs are absolutely vital to the way we play but with Dacosta & Dabo both out we've had to rotate between a CB & a LWB to play as RWB - This hugely imbalances us.
As others say, you have to rotate to compete in this division. But clearly the back 5 hasn't settled, and not being able to give them a run of games has really hurt us. Obviously having a few CBs who can't play a run of games without giving away penalties or getting sent off doesn't help this.
I also think we are in the midst of the effects of not having completed last season / having a weird pre season. As Robins said, we've got players who aren't fully fit who are having to come in and play to help us out ( Dabo and Kelly) probably being the main ones. It seems that the few games they've appeared in, seem to have set them back a little bit.
