Views on Pressley (1 Viewer)

The Tranmere game was rubbish. Notts County at home was a good win. Rotherham away was a memorable day too.

Worst - 3-2 loss away at Crawley first game of last season. Fans on the pitch after going 2-0 down, and had Crawley scored from the corner after fans were finally ushered off the pitch (they hit the bar), I honestly think a riot would have broken out. Never seen a group of fans as angry and disenchanted as that.

Best - MK Dons away has to be up there!

SP was a victim of he own philosophy. He champions bringing youngsters through the ranks and this is why is was brought in.

Unfortunately exactly the same thing will happen wherever he goes because it all starts off well enough but soon deteriorates as the realities of reducing finance kick in. If any youngster is any good they will be immediately sold and he will be left working with the also rans.

Results will inevitably suffer and he will be sacked to take the spotlight off the owners for lack of investment and because gates are falling.

He is caught in an extended version of groundhog day.

My thoughts on Pressley,

yes he worked hard, yes i genuinely think he cared, yes he has good idea's on the game both on the pitch and in training however i'd say he lacks whats needed to be a good manager at the moment. It might come with experience for the bloke........here's some constructive criticism i'd give for him to learn from!

1) Don't join a club who are is a massive downwards spiral, and whose manager has just left after a meeting with the owners about its future / where it was known we would be going into administration / having a points deduction and possibly leaving the stadium!

2) Don't believe promises owners give you during an interview process about budgets / funds etc

3) Don't try and get league 1 standard players in england to try and play a game style top top sides in germany with top players play.

4) Don't alienate players telling them you aren't keeping them before the end of a season......you still need them to play for you at that point.

5) don't then alienate players making them train away from the squad in order to get rid of them, those players have friends in your squad and will turn those players against you also.

6) be proactive with substitutions

7) leave men up for corners - otherwise the ball just comes straight back

8) don't expect league 1 centre halfs to be able to play out from the back, half the goals we conceded were from defenders losing the ball in our own half

9) don't over train players in the second half of the season, the players bodies are falling apart by then, they need more rest in between matches

10) don't have a mate as your number 2, have an older wiser calm man to run things past

11) study games in progress and make tactical changes at half time

12) never sign players you haven't seen play at least a couple of times yourself

Nice man, footy enthusiast, not in any way shape or form a manager.

Nice guy but far too negative.

I think he'll be fine in the Championship or lower in Scotland. Nice bloke, obviously passionate just our club was a bit too much for him.

Real nice guy but a terrible man manager never got the best out of players, also his signings were abysmal

To be fair he wasnt a very good defender when he was here playing

On this basis, he succeeded. And who am I to argue with Winston Churchill?

Quite simply, a failure and in my opinion here's why:

No tactics, poor team selections, no plan B, poor signings, letting players go, poor man management, unable to instil confidence and talked crap.

Lastly I don't buy this 'he was a nice guy' garbage either. He was stubborn and arrogant.

Won't be a success elsewhere either as a manager because of the above. He will be a U21 coach at best.

What I don't understand from Pressleys post sacking statement where he states 'I would have kept CCFC up'. Well I doubt that but that wasn't our pre season aim Steven was it? We are told repeatedly our budget is among the top 6 in the division so our aim was playoffs bit survival.
