Had a couple of Brummie friends there last night life long Villa supporters.. must confess I watched it as watch most of the champions league.. Two things, they've done really well to get Unai Emery in with his staff to turn the club around as nearly relegated and survived with a draw last day of the season in 2020. Secondly, Duran scored another worldly but can't play 90 mins. think we've had a couple like that.

Fair play to them. I personally don't even really mind Aston Villa, it's been so long since we've had a meaningful game against them.
I'd much prefer a team like that won the Premier League than teams like Man City or Chelsea.

Leicester though nah you're alright...

In the midst of the temporary truce in the (un) civil war, I just wanted to say what a pleasure it was to see Villa's latest triumph in Europe. Took me right back to my teenage years and that golden era when they and Forest bestrode the continent.
I appreciate this might garner some negative reactions and even a lifetime ban, but I've got broad shoulders.

I quite like the Villa nowadays. There I said it. They’re nothing to do with us.
Obviously if we were to play them I’d hate them with a passion, in true pantomime villain ways.
I generally despise any team we are playing and then it’s forgotten about immediately after.
Obviously I make exceptions for Sheffield Utd, Leeds, Leicester, and Sunderland. I’m not sick.

Too young to see Villa as rivals personally, don’t think we’ve played them at all since I was about 4.

Emery is a ridiculously good manager. Seems crazy that it didn’t really work out for him at Arsenal.

I'm still too sad and bitter for this and childishly cheered when their first goal was disallowed. Not to say they've not done well though or be jealous of what looked to be an amazing atmosphere. Also can't help but have a grudging respect for the manager and goalkeeper in particular, but also some talented young players who have lots of improvement ahead. Unfortunately Eons away from when we could compete on a level platform with them.

I have vivid memories of being beaten up by a gang of them when they got in the home fans area of The Kop. Vermin.

I loved it when we beat them 3-0 at HR over Christmas/new year. The whole ground was singing it!

They were a right bunch of pricks when we played them all the time but that was a generation ago so what is the point? A generation of our fans and their fans have never seen us play so what is the point.

Those of us of a certain age would consider this as tantamount to treason

And the 1-0 victory in the FA Cup at Villa Park in 1998 was one of our greatest moments as far as I'm concerned though nearly getting the car turned over outside a Villa pub afterwards wasn't

Got nicked in the 2-1 win at HR in 1988. Not that I saw any of the game. Some turnout from Cov that day. So done my time for the crime I can now fondly look back as a mature adult and say…. Feck them and their European success!! actually some of my best mates are Villa so am secretly a little bit pleased for them.

I've just lost a lengthy post on this, too quiet fans probably taking a breather tbf sublime football,st price's seem dodgy to me if it's as it was described on here, brilliant manager, one of the group who's possibly going to take over Peps slot when/if City get found out!

Mixed views on Villa: some historical rivalry tempered by family history. Great grandfather moved from Aston to cov in 1910s and reportedly used to walk back to visit his mum and watch the game. Cant fault that dedication to his club. So in his memory ‘Well done Villa’.

In the Netherlands if a team from the country plays in Europe, everyone supports them for the most part. It's hard for me to get my head around. On the one hand it is nice to see a club from our country beat the Germans, on the other it just feels wrong cheering on Villa!

Being born in the early 80's, Villa was always the big one for me growing up.... and still would be now.

I never really support other English clubs in Europe, but if pushed, i'd sooner see Villa do well than the likes of the "big 6"

(although i thought/said that about Leicester when they were winning the league, up until about two games to go, when i prayed they'd cock it up)

Said on the UCL thread - as someone aged 24 I was a year old when we last played them, I just don't hate them that much I have never seen us play them, I'm completely indifferent to them they are a good side with a world class manager so fair play to them on that

That would change if we got into the Prem I have no doubt but there is no point in being bitter about them for the time being

Personally I'd rather see them win something than the scruffy twats they share a City with even win a throw in

All other things aside, it’s great for them to match our achievement of a competitive home win against Bayern Munich.

Nor me. Something very odd about a grown adult saying "Vile" or "Incester".
