Waiting for the rug to be pulled? (1 Viewer)

Not sure if anyone else feels like I do.
We have made a couple of potentially good signings and fair enough lost a few due to contracts ending.
The ones we have lost so far I sort of viewed as luxury players craine etc being good players but not 100% necessary in L1.
All in all with a couple more signings I would be content we could be mid table minimum next year.

So why is it I am still looking at the paper every day a bit nervously waiting for the rug to be pulled from under my feet.

We need more in. We can't afford to lose more players out without replacements. That's what I'm expecting though.

i am reading all these reports about keogh leaving but to be honest i aint too fussed about him moving on. the two new signings have given me a bit of a lift and renewed optimism and i am really confident that he will be replaced by someone more than adequate.

I'm still expecting keogh and bigi to go. But that could be it. So aslong as they get adequately replaced, and a couple more rotation players, we should have enough for mid table or possibly challenging for a playoff spot

As I say it's numbers.

Everyone readily admits our squad wasn't big or strong enough last season. We have now lost McPake, Cranie, Eastwood, Platt, Norwood, Nimely and now you would guess, Keogh. Apologies if I've missed one or two. That's 7 players missing I make it, from the squad we had last season.

We have brought 3 in. We therefore need at least another 4 just to achieve parity.

Bigi goes to and that will be 8 out.

Yeah i think lastfew days have been a great boost as we have not had much good news here of late. if Keogh goes and i think he will the money will not be reinvested so be a case of getting another replacment on a free or a loan. I think that we will get maybe 2 loans in aswell.

I am starting to think Bigi may be here at the start of the season talk seems to have stopped about him so would be delighted if he stayed for minimum of another year.

I assume they have gone for ins before outs to dupe a few extra season tickets. If that doesn't happen they can say "we invested and you still didn't come so with regret, we had to rip up the squad and sell anyone and anything we could"

Not seen any investment yet by SISU - that's what I'm looking for - that's the sign that tells me they are not going to walk away just yet, all the frees & loans cost them nothing in the short term..

I'm all for cutting costs, but if we say get £700,000 for Keogh, then I would be looking to be bring 3 players in for that. They can still be frees. Any income given to the club can be used for wages.

Agreed OTIS they haven't any other choice really - I'm ok with frees and loans - club needs the cash now to buy us some time - think the owners will want to see some real progress quickly in this league so can get my head around a few coming in - I really do see this as a last throw of the dice for SISU - my BIG worry is that we will be sluggish to start with and they will walk as the losses mount up - break even point is still difficult for them to achieve even now - sure is we start running away with the league then more fans will come to the games and this will breed a positive mentality all round - if this doesn't happen they will be looking at more losses for a club stuck in a crappy league with zero value - put yourself in their shoes - what would you do now?

fair comment but i dont think they were ever going to be pumping money in.
we are debted up big time and i think a lot of us thought there would only be players leaving, so the fact that we are bringing players in is a major bonus.

Sorry Percy - I should be clearer - what I 'm looking for is ANY form of financial commitment - I certainly don't think they will put money in for players - I'm sure they are counting on cash injection for selling whoever they can - what I AM looking for is what they do with the money - key trigger here is the rent fiasco - that ESCROW account will need replenishing at some point soon - this is where they HAVE to spend money to keep it going - no ifs or buts it will HAVE to be done.. that's the bit of comfort I am looking for

Decades of under achieving have resulted in a negativity being permanently ingrained into the CCFC fan psyche.

hence we do not readily accept rare good news without an element of cynicism.

Whilst i accept that Keogh will leave for purely economic reasons, there now appears to be interest from 4 clubs.

Cardiff Redbirds, Sheffield Wednesday, Bristol City and Leeds United.

For a change our club appear to be in the driving seat. Let us hold an auction. The reserve price will be 850,000 and must include a sell-on clause.

This would, hopefully permit Andy Thorn to increase our squad size by 2 to 3 good players, be they loan or permanent.

The only thing that makes me less worried about some of them was their role last season. Eastwood barely played, McPake didn't play much and was shipped off so their absences I wouldn't count in last season. You'd like to think we can play the loan market as well as last season - Norwood and Nimely were pure class for us and ofc. SISU would only have to stump up wages, if that which would help the case. A couple of good defenders and a class loanee in midfield and I think we'd be in good shape - better than last season anyway.

We'll also have Connor Thomas back to full fitness who does the simple stuff well and can tackle, a fully fit McDonald who barely featured for 2/3 of last season and a lesser quality of opposition which will help.

we will have that if kilbane signs and keogh commits,that will end preseason imo and on a high note.

if the above factors happen then we do have strength in depth...maybe lack alittle lacking in quuality some positions but overall reasons to be optimistic.

couldnt have said it better myself.... the only person we will miss from the departed is cranie, i know its an old saying but mcdonald really is going to be like a new signing with a full pre-season under his belt and wood and cameron didnt play many games last year either so the squad isnt as depleted as some would make you think

While you're factually correct with the numbers, we can really discount the losses of Eastwood and McPake as they hardly played anyway. Even when we were short they rarely appeared on the bench.

True of course, but the fact is we were so short of numbers last season we were having to blood kids from the academy who just weren't ready.

McPake and Eastwood played very little , but we were terribly short last season and will be short again this, and this season with the JPT (or whatever it's called) we will have to play more games.

Just cos they didn't play much at all doesn't improve the situation 1 iota does it.

We didn't have a bigg enough squad last season so need a bigger one this.
