University bosses have confirmed a proposed new stadium for the Sky Blues will not be on their land.

The University of Warwick has ruled out the possibility of Coventry City bosses building a new stadium on land owned by the university.

It was previously believed the club may be interested in land to the south west of the city, on the Warwickshire side of Warwick University, for a new stadium.

The club’s academy sometimes uses the university’s facilities and it was thought the club was interested in developing a partnership with links to university sports science courses.

However, the university has confirmed no talks have taken place with club bosses in relation to building a stadium or selling land to the football club.

A spokesman for the university said: “There are no plans for a stadium on our land and we are not having conversations of that nature with anyone.”

The university spokesman added they were unaware of any plans by surrounding landowners to off-load land to the football club.

Bosses pledged to build a new stadium after a long-running dispute with Ricoh Arena bosses led to the club leaving to play ‘home’ matches 35 miles away in Northampton.

Football club bosses have always maintained they are looking at several sites with property consultants CBRE and architects AFLS+P.

Club bosses have kept the potential locations for any new stadium a closely guarded secret citing political and commercial sensitivities.

But the Telegraph recently revealed one of the sites club bosses were believed to be eyeing up is a 71-acre swathe of land at the site of a former golf course near Exhall.

Time estimates from the club’s architects and property consultants indicate any new stadium would likely be at least three years away.

I wonder how CBRE and AFLS+P must be feeling after all this. How hard can it be to find some land ? I wonder if anyone was thinking of buying some land, would you go to CBRE or AFLS+P after what we have seen so far ?

Probably just their solicitors about how they can win the Judicial Review and get the Ricoh on the cheap.

Nope. Odd thing to say on a thread about "Warwick" University though, isn't it? They nicked our more upmarket town's name.

Is Leamington in Coventry then?

I Just think it eats you up that one of the 20 best university's in the world isn't named after the city it's located in. Who'd have thought, eh?

Upmarket? Hardly.

Or as the Cov Uni lecturer I was talking to the other day called them "South Canley University"

Shame really, that would have been a pretty good location. And you get to avoid going anywhere near Bedworth/Nuneaton.
