Random - FA will not give money to Wayne Rooney fund

The FA aren't actually donating anything, just letting fans and people fundraise at the game with buckets.

Hmm.

Are people really going to give just because he plays?

Does he have to play? Can't he just turn up and be there and, promote the cause and raise funds that way?

I think this is terrible they are using the charity it is as bad as the charity shield that had to be renamed because so little of the money made it to charity.

It is terrible.

How can they name the match The Wayne Rooney Foundation and then not give any money to the cause or allow gate receipts to be used for its benefit?

It's all just some strange PR type event by the looks of it.

There are often bucket collectors at the Ricoh, maybe we should start renaming games to suit and bringing back old players.

Bad isn't it. They have always donated in the past for this game each year to the good cause it's in aid of. Why not this year?

They need the money so they can keep over paying their staff and employing far too many people in the England set up, I am not sure if they still have one but the first team had a full time physio the England managers job is hardly full time who knows what a physio could be doing for his money.

Gary treated several teams at the FA and made the FA money believe it or not.

I think they will say that they will make an undisclosed donation to the fund as people are obviously pissed about this but it will rattle more than rustle so will remain a secret

Well if this is true, people would be better off not going, and just giving the money direct to charity.

And if they don't go they will have more money to give.

Makes a mockery of an international cap. International football has been devalued by the club game anyway, now we're starting to give sympathy caps out it's almost pointless.

Also he isn't starting so they know he is coming on as sub.

It's no different to the John Terry nonsense.

So, he will be number 10. He will be captain when he comes on after Fabian Delph hands him the armband. I wonder if both teams will stop the game to do a guard of honour as well?

It's real pantomime shit. The only thing that slightly gets my interest is if Callum Wilson might get a run out.

Could you imagine the opposition planning to just absolutely wipe Rooney out as soon as he comes on?

i have no issue with it. it one of the friendly games. its 1 position for 1 game only. might not even be 90 mins. we have a culture of complaining about everything

worst bit is alot of the people complaining are same ones that always call england national team shit. they just want to moan

we got to semi finals of world cup, we have a great crop of players(despite what casual fans were saying pre world cup) and great youth. enjoy it whilst saying goodbye to englands top scorer. just 3 days later we play croatia in a competitive game and i expect we will beat the world cup finalists myself

I take issue with people saying it devalues a cap.
What about all those players who got a cap only because other players were injured or held back by their clubs?

Sorry guys, the USA players are not like that, they will give Rooney the respect he deserves.
My guess is he will only play for 15 minutes.
It's not that unusual, a similar thing has been done by other countries to honour great players ending their careers.

Aren't they called up because they are next in line to be called up? And aren't then they picked in order to play the entire 90 mins based on performance within the game?

That's a hell of lot different to going out and accomodating a retired player for 15 mins.

It's a friendly. Nowhere near a full stength side and most players will be getting 45 minutes.
Absolutely no problem with Rooney getting a proper send-off.
Always had his critics but few players worked harder for England or wore his heart on his sleeve when he played for his country.
Let's be honest with the dearth of English strikers in the Pl he's probably still in the top 5 English-qualified strikers.

It's bollocks. Just like a minutes applause for something every week at football. This game is for Southgate to try players in his squad. Did Charlton get one, Moore, Lineaker, anybody? It's stupid. There is someone who could actually win a real cap out of the team tonight because we have to pay tribute.

Also I don't always complain about the team, think we had a great world cup and excited about the future.

The players you mentioned should’ve got one.

This sort of thing never happened when those players were around. If it it was the done thing, then all of them should have had the same honour.
Maybe not Lineker though.
Fair play to Rooney. Record goalscorer for his country. Totally deserved his send off.

If it's to find his feet then that's fine. If it's to get the team promoted, then that'll be too much pressure to put on him.

Some disbelief that Wayne Rooney is to move to Derby County as player coach. No coaching experience, been going downhill for the past ten years, and not to mention him having to learn English.

Does anyone suspect he will flop & leave after a disastrous run just after the season's end if not before?

I think he will follow Keane & never match what he did on the pitch.

Can't say Rooney has ever struck me as the sort of person who would make a good coach but I guess you don't really know until you try it.

Wonder how much they're paying him.

I think his enthusiasm and ‘name’ will have a positive impact on the squad. Not sure he will play much, if at all but his influence in the dressing room may make all the difference.
