The problem with the CDMs is not their defensive work, it’s how long they take to advance the ball. Eccles and Sheaf are two quite similar players neither of whom are especially dynamic

It's both.
Runners frequently get past Sheaf, Eccles and they can't catch them up.

This is spot on. When either Sheaf or Eccles receive the ball the process is control it, take a touch, take the unnecessary touch, slow down to walking pace, roll to Thomas. Then repeat. Neither fizz the ball about or consistently move at a pace that doesn’t allow the opposition to set up completely. Lampard alluded to it in his post match comments.

Bidwell for me. If the whole defence matches his performance we don’t concede

Mental. Bidwell was terrible.

Are people saying Bidwell was “great defensively” because of that one tackle? He got done constantly and is awful past the halfway line. Some of his passing was laughable.

I thought Fellows had his measure most of the game

I’m saying it because I was there and it’s what I thought. He won most of his tackles and interceptions.

Stats should either support or reject that

Manager doesn't agree mate

In all seriousness i agree, thought Fellows had him on toast. I'd be upgrading LB ASAP, as like Lati, its not good enough.

I don’t think “interceptions lost” is a stat

Because he didn’t sub him? Bidwell has been poor for over a year now. It’s time to move on.

Personally though he got run ragged for first 15 minutes and then got 'better' but wasn't great. If Dasilva backed off for the first goal as much as Bidwell did, this forum would be raging.

The absolute silence when Bidwell got done by the exact ball that lead to ten pages of Dasilva criticism on here speaks volumes.
