despite being told on last home game of season that Westwood was off to Villa, the latest tabloid rumours say he is in talks with Sunderland.

I think whether or not these rumours are true... we have to face it as Cov fans that Westwood will not be signing a contract with Cov.

The sooner he clarifies his position the better as it will allow us to open negotiations with players released such as Murphy

I always rated Kirkland! Not as a Premier player though, but as a championship goalie he would be a great asset to any club! I'd love to see him back here if Westwood does go (which seems likely now).

Personally I wouldnt touch kirkland , I always thought the 6 million we got 4 him was an unbelievable deal
Always thought his positioning was terrible and he's to injury prone and we would only get 10-15 games out of him, id go for fulop if we had any cash but as we haven't then Murphy seems the obvious choice

I remember being at the Northampton pre-season friendly last summer and some bloke behind the goal shouting "keiren, sign that contract" so it's been some time and I hate this crap dragging on and on

Why there is so much gossip I don't know - yes he is a top keeper at this level - but Prem level bottom 3/5 maybe ? if that , so it's pure greed, and I know he's good with the kids and all that and a fans favourite but he can't honestly think he's moving on to become a world beater, he's moving on for money and warm a bench, or play with more money and get relegated from the prem or promoted in this division.

Why doesnt he just come out and say - "hey it's been great, I've done well and been noticed, so now i'm off to get more money"

Wow..... an employee being greedy moving jobs for money!!!! We would never do that would we......
How naive to think him greedy. Whoever he signs his next contract for (let's say it's for 3 years) he runs the risk of a career ending injury so before he's 30 he's finished.
He owes it to himself and family to maximise his earning years like all of us.
He's right to hold out for the best deal possible. Being a City fan I don't like it but fully understand his position.

Give the guy a break - he's not being greedy, just sensible.

Agree with the last couple of comments. At the end of the day, just because its football, doesn't mean the principles should change.
All of us go to work each day and earn a certain wage, but if we are offered more money somewhere else, where we would be doing the same job, you are going to take it. A contract is a contract whether it be football or within a company. If you get offered a contract extension at your company, you can either choose to accept it, or look elsewhere for a better deal when your contract finishes. That is exactly what Westy is doing.
Yes, we would all like him to stay, but you cannot blame him, or call him greedy, for seeking more money elsewhere. A footballers career is a relatively short one. You can't begrudge him for wanting to maximising his income.

Didnt AT say he was talking to him this week for the answer about the contract??? because if this story is true then my guess is this conversation has happend and Westwood has told AT he is off. If this is the case i dont blame Westwood and i wish him well in the Prem here or in Scotland, but if Westwood hasnt told CCFC he is off then that where i think fans would be abit upset with him and that i understand.

Greed is Ashley Cole almost swerving off the road in disgust because he was only offered 70k a week rather than 75 or whatever it was.

A player who signed a contract with a club, fulfilled that contract and is now in a position to accept more lucrative contracts if offered? That's not greed.

If Westwood says nothing and then leaves, fine. He's doing nothing wrong.

I don't see this move anything other then wanting a chance to play in the premier league, he may have to sit it out for a few months but he will get his chance sooner or later, signing for a prem team comes with the added bonus of earning shit loads. I've said this many times before but he is so easily replaceable it's untrue, we could quite easily spend next to nothing and bring in someone just slightly below his quality (Murphy). If the club have offered him any more then 5k a week they need their heads looking at. Don't SISU remember what they brought 3 years ago.

Kirkland was, technically, the best keeper we've had at Cov in my time. Injuries have had a massive factor on his career and it's a shame because, in my opinion, if he hadn't had all these injuries (which must have had a detrimental effect on his body) he would be Englands #1 now. He's nowhere near what he used to be and it's such a shame because his career was so promising until he got that first injury at Liverpool. Fulop, while being fairly competent, never shone for me. I never understood the hype. This is coming from a keeper too so I'd like to think I know a bit at least!

In other rumours, Leicester are now apparently after Earnshaw as well as Bothroyd!

Can't blame the guy for wanting to maximise his earnings, who wouldnt ?

Said he wasnt going to sign the contract offered earlier in season and unless the terms have improved and a revised contract offered why should he change his mind?

We have to offer what we can afford and there are plenty of teams that could offer more, If that means moving on and matches with his ambition to play in premiership then good luck to him. We all say how good a keeper he is then some slate him because he doesnt show "loyalty" and stay. He chooses to pit his skills with those at the highest level cant blame him for that if he thinks he is good enough.

He hasnt given any false signals..... he said he wouldnt sign the contract......... still put in a decent season after that, isnt that loyalty?

To be honest I just want it done and dusted one way or tuther for Westwood King and Gunnarson. That cannot happen until their contracts end. Will know then which way we are going..... wouldnt put money on any staying though

I wasn't moaning at the fact he's being greedy - I was simplfying using the term greed,

"Greed is an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods with the intention to keep it for one's self"

As the last few posts have said ,and I myself I am the same , if another company comes upto me and says " we'll increase your salary" I won't hestitate, i'll take it, that's beacuse I want a better life for my kids and want more money - and because i'm greedy,

I dont think he is greddy, unlike most of us a footballers career is very short so decision like this are key and loyalty is short. I wish him all the best but lets just get on with it FFS! Just dont go to friggin Leicester!

I noticed this on the front page of their football online section, suggests Westwood would be signed to challenge their Belgian guy whilst Craig Gordon's still on the shelf, but it illustrates Kieren's dilemna:

No doubt based on his performances for us over the last three years, he deserves to playing Premier League football, but at present, the goalkeeping teams for all the Premier League teams seem settled- Arsenal are sticking with their guys, Man United are signing De Gea from Atletico Madrid...further down the Premiership, Al-Habsi plays really well for Wigan, you couldn't see Wolves changing their goalie, etc...

So, basically, if Westwood *does* go to a Premiership side, he may pick up more money, but he'll be bench warming, competing with at least another good goalkeeper, and at a time when he's wearing the ROI No 1 shirt, a lack of game time could be a problem...

At the same time, would he *really* want to stay in the Championship, play for a team like Forest whom have a slightly better team?

It's a dilemna...

Yep, one that suddenly makes signing for Celtic the most attractive offer of all! That should get him a bigger shop window, a taste of European football, more money, huge crowds, and probably cement his place in the Irish team. He can always move to a Prem team in a year or 2 if he does well for Celtic and Ireland. We should have maybe taken that bag of haggis they offered Aidy for him after all...

This attitude makes no sense to me at all. He's given his all when he plays which is all that can be asked of him. If you want people who blindly commit to the club regardless of personal situation, you're basically talking lifelong Cov fans, like Gary McSheffrey who's been elsewhere in his career.

I don't think he had shown us a lack of loyalty, he agreed to a three year contract and has played really well during that time, now he is leaving to further his career elsewhere which is fine. My only issue with him is that he hasn't formally rejected the latest offer allowing city to move on.
