Article today on Cov Mad saying that Wolves are the latest club to show an interest in our Keiren. I think this would be the best option for him as it could be a route into premiership football. He is a better keeper than what they already have.

This is exactly why Keiren Westwood has been refusing to sign a new contract for months, possibly even a year. Being out of contract makes him an attractive option for clubs and now he has several clubs to choose from.

Totally agree, would be a good move for him. Hennessy is no Premiership keeper, Westwood would have his place easy.

My point is that now he can pick and choose. Which he wouldn't have been able to if he was under contract and Cov had accepted a bid from Wigan.

He can go to Man City, play infrequently but at a rich club challenging for honours
He can go to Sunderland and play often, just in a middle of the road club
He can go to Wigan or Wolves, play often but in a club fighting relegation
He can go to Leicester and be in a promotion chasing team, playing for a well-known manager.

I suspect Leicester is a better option than Wolves.

Even if we accepted an offer from wigan, westward doesn't have to agree terms and would still be a free agent in the summer.

I think the club has learnt to offer contracts sooner now so that if needed, they can transfer list them before the start of the season and maybe make some money.

I think Wolves have two good keepers. Be nuice if we could get either in exchange but I think wages would be the issue

I still don't get your point? You're making it sound like it's a bad thing that Westwood's given himself options. Then you've pointed out 5 clubs and made it sound like his best option is to go to the one still in the same league as us? My take on it is he's an ambitious person and wants to play in the Prem, he's given himself options and now has offers to do that. He's done his job here and he's done it well, I don't begrudge him moving on to bigger and better things.

I think his point was quite clear - Westwood didn't sign a contract with us, because he'd have far more options open to him once he was available on a free...?

Seemed a pretty sensible thing to say.

As for begrudging him, I don't have issue with his ambition, but he's handled it poorly in a way that's hurt the club. The club are partly to blame as well ofc. but still leaves a sour taste imo.

How has he handled it badly? I really don't understand why people get so worked up about it, this is football. Has nobody learned this is what happens? That's what a contract is for and he hasn't broken that contract. There's no law saying he has to sign a new one and he's too good for this league, why would he not want as many options open to him as possible?! We'll move on, he'll move on, that's how it works.

My sentiments exactly! We as a club can't progress until these contact issues with westwood, king and gunnerson are resolved! Move on or sign up, get it done!

I am sure there was a point when we could have offered a contract and he would have accepted. We as a club need to learn from this and take more of a gamble on some players that we have confidence in.

When really did we start talking about extensions show me a timeline....Nobody would have done anything other than what Westwood has done in our own jobs and me like others will be bitter when he leaves.

The suggestion has always been that Westwood and his agent made it very clear to Ranson that Westwood had no intention of signing a new contract, to the extent that they considered it a waste of time even negotiating. When Thorn handed a contract to Westwood by hand at the end of the season, it was a very obvious signal that Westwood and his agent couldn't dissemble any further.

As I said previously, this has worked out how Westwood hoped: now he can negotiate with a number of clubs, rather than negotiate with a fewer number of clubs that would have been prepared to pay a fee.
