What does this mean for us? (1 Viewer)

Just been talking to a Wasps fan, they expect to play Saturday next season not Sunday. Is this news I hadn't hear it before and if true does this mean we end up playing Sunday?

I thought it was confirmed we get priority.

Or Wasps play on a Saturday when we are away.

Less good for the pitch, but I imagine they will play alternate weekends. So 7 days to recover not 2 weeks.
But it is being relaid so it will be a more resilient pitch. How it actually holds up will become apparent, hopefully OK.

Its going to be alternating weekends, so Wasps are going to schedule there matches for a Saturday when we have an away match.

Don't worry. Wasps coming to Coventry WILL NOT AFFECT THE FOOTBALL CLUB OR THE RUGBY CLUB. Ann said.

Not sure if this is relavent to this thread, but was talking to someone who has always played for a well known local amatuer rugger team in Coventry (won't name them). Since Wasps have been at the Ricoh he and all his mates have always gone up as it was on a Sunday and didn't get in the way of supporting the club they have been part of since they were boys. Now Wasps are moving games to a Saturday he reckons a lot of rugger fans like him won't bother as thats the day they watch their own teams. He seemed fairly convinced that Wasps were shooting themselves in the foot a bit by moving to palying on a Saturday.

oh HAHAHA that's funny cause actually this implies that it is affecting the football club and you actually don't believe Ann is honest!

Good one!

Stopped me getting a wasps season ticket at the moment, as it appears it may clash with away matches.

I would hope that nobody who follows city away will now decide going to see Wasps is a better option. The bigger danger is for the local rugby sides who play on Saturdays, hope their own fans stay loyal.

Pretty poor show by Wasps really, you couldn't get a more clear indication that they have no intention of considering anyone but themselves despite what they claimed when moving here. Interestingly they tried to move games to Saturdays a couple of seasons ago but the fans in Wycombe objected and it was put to a vote, the result of which saw games continuing to be played on Sundays. They obviously didn't like the vote going against them as there's been no vote at all this time!

Not very scientific but there was a poll on the wasps forum not long ago and the result I believe was they wanted it to stay on Sunday.

The reason Wasps want to move it is because they want an extra rest day between matches.

They only play 80 mins, what's wrong with them ;)

It is to do with TV, there will be more live rugby next season, possibly three matches on a Saturday.

Or alternatively follow this City's side which has been around for 141 years.

And who over the last couple of seasons have put together a young entertaining squad and last season alone broke 19 club records since the war.

I think they are also working with CRFC to avoid clashes

Last season it worked really well managed to get up to about 8/9 games at the BPA as City were away most weeks would be delighted with that again!

Used to always help get over seeing the standard dismal CCFC performance from the previous week!

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but, Wasps were only renting at Adams Park, is that correct? If so, they could have as many "Votes to play on Saturdays" as they wanted. Wycombe Wanderers own the ground, and as such have no right to dictate what day they played on!

Football clubs have to have the first choice regardless of ownership.

The creep effect, Wasps will start to blur the lines this season and I would imagine if we start taking " their" fans they could try and make us play all sorts of days. I know it's said we have first rights but I am sure this could be challenged as they own the stadium not us.

I hope wasps have a stinker this season.

It would have to be scheduled around the football fixtures but I imagine Wycombe would have had to have a very good reason to say no if there was no football fixture being played that day.

The situation at Wycombe was muddied further as for a while Wycombe and Wasps were owned by the same person.

I think the Saturday/Sunday issue for wasps home games may have been when Wycombe were away, do you not think?

Would be nice. Where would they be now if the thousands of people who will quite happily go a and watch Wasps as they are desperate to watch rugby had turned up to support CRFC over the years.

I'm going on the official announcement which says they are!

Do you believe everything on ccfc.co.uk as well? I think I would believe CRFC in this, after all when Wasps got here they assured everyone they would play on Sundays so as not to cause problems and have ditched that a few months in. If CRFC are saying they aren't being consulted I have no reason to think they aren't being truthful.

I f****ing hate Wasps with a passion. The day they go tits up I'm cracking open the biggest bottle of champagne that I can afford.

I hate any thread with them in. I've heard we might have some new investment, anyone else heard this ?

Never been to a Rugby match, don't think I ever will, even with free tickets, not interested.
