All depends on the personal for me.

At the moment I'm not quite see we have the right personal for wing backs.

3-5-2 is working. 1 goal conceded in 4 games. Think once Jackson is in we'll look better going forward. Just need to pick out the runs O Brien makes

We have to go with what we have. 4 4 2 would mean we start to leak goals again.

Its dull but hopefully effective.

Haven't seen Pugh yet.

Haynes fits the role better than Clarke I would say. What about Phillps? Not seen him in that role yet either.

Yeah, agree with Haynes looking more competent that Clarke in that role but thought Clarke looked alright there last night. As for Pugh, to be fair, I'm going on past times. From what I can remember he's alright at bombing on and has obvious defensive qualities...two good traits for a WB.

Yeah, forgot about Philipps...he was involved early last season (didn't he score?) and then was pretty quiet after that.

This.

Up top was our weakest area last night and I know we've got two newish lads up front and it was the first time they played together but I think Jackson will offer more 'tooth'.

I agree with the formation...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. First job in football...don't concede goals. Job done so far.

532 352 whichever, i`ll take 1-0 wins every week to the end of the season, i think it will work over the season, it may not be to everyones taste but there are positives.
Loadsa goals and crazy defeats or few goals and tight wins. We`ve lost 1 league game in 6, and that was a crazy reflex insta goal after we had levelled. With Jackson we seem to have a Wilson replacement give it some time, Pressley will be God :)

I would be interested to know from those who would think 4 - 4 - 2 would work who would be be the back four and the two central midfielders.

I think SP has got it right at minute no need to mess,, tired 2nd half but overall he is getting the team tough to beat and score against,, you do that and nicking a goal can always happen... I still think he needs more quality at the top end of the pitch to change it if needed but all is ok as of now...

I'd let the manager decide.

Agree, depends on the personal. Last season 2 who gave us 40+ goals plus back-up from midfield, we did score more or less at will but did however concede far too many.

Attempting to 'shut-up shop' isn't new and won't be as pleasing on the eye as most of last season but we do need to change in order to get out of this Division.

Still think it's the playing staff that dictate, believe in 'The King' but unlikely to see the same stunning football as last season.

Allsop

Phillips Hines/Willis Reda Haynes/Pugh

O'Brien Thomas Fleck Swanson/Coulibaly

Jackson Nouble

You could arguably play Haynes left mid if you wanted to be a bit cautious. For me that back four is so much stronger than last season (barring Christie). Reda clearly knows how to marshal a defence and in Hines we have a very cultured centre half, who like most Middlesborough academy graduates can play as well as defend. The strike partnership is very similar to Clarke and Wilson, a big man to hold up the ball and a pacy man to stretch defences. So we could use last seasons (The first part) successful system/tactics with a better defence and a better player than Baker, in Jim.

Agreed, don't get promoted when you leek goals all the time. Look great defensively apart from Allsopp. Would go with burge.

Not arsed but voted 5-3-2 because we are doing ok with it and it'll annoy you.

that side would be shipping goals left, right and centre, just like we did last season.

How do you figure that then? Disagree but at least back it up with something substantial.

I did but my stupid bloody laptop lost it. I hate windows 8.

Compare what we finished last season with:

Clarke Webster Seabourne Willis

With:

Phillips Hines Johnson Haynes

We would concede far far less goals and have a distinguished attacking threat. Play 5-3-2 against the top six away from home, but we should be going out to beat everyone else, not hoping we score first and then sitting on it for the rest of the game.

What makes you believe Phillips would be selected ahead of Clarke anyway?

I'm not saying he would, but when I've seen him play he's very neat and tidy on the ball, has a decent delivery and offers more going forward than Jordan Clarke. If Haynes is being given a go ahead of Pugh, then Phillips should be ahead of Clarke.

I don't get the obsession with formation. That, on it's own, means nothing. It's the system as a whole that counts; personnel, shape, pressing and passing styles, and so on. It's rather archaic to talk about 'formation' like it's the be-all and end-all.
