I recall going to see Lou Reed at Warwick Arts Centre some years back. It was the most boring concert I've ever been to, my mate fell asleep, and for an hour the crowd was in silence. That concert stays in the memory !Depends. No drink or drugs, but when I saw Spiritualized live everyone just lay down on the floor, so I did that.
Sometimes I just sit and listen and sometimes I go where the music takes me.
Going to see Elbow next week, so I think that will be a just stand and watch thing.
Glad someone else went to Monsters Of Rock ! I remember going once and it pissed it down for hours on end eventually turning it into a mudbath. Anyway the 3 of us were down the front waiting for the band to come on stage, when a group of lads decided to start pushing people over, resulting in a few landing head first and covered head to foot in slime. Bad mistake ! They tried it on us 3 and we turned it around and lobbed them down which brought huge cheers from those around us as they were looking for trouble. Found out they were from Southampton, but they got escorted out by security much to their embarrassment.Been to loads of metal concerts in all shape and size venues from the Tick Tock in Coventry to see Saxon to Monsters of Rock with Metallica headlining.
To keep in with the OP my memories of MOR are trying to sleep on a banking because we got in from the night before and went straight to Donnington with no sleep. it was a funny day where one minute it was bright sunshine and the next raining so I got a combination of soaked and sunburnt. Then later on in the night just as Metallica started it started pissing down, then someone threw a bag of piss which hit my mate on the back of the head and covered him. This particular mate is sound but had an issue with the red mist when we were younger turning him into someone who nobody would ever beat in a fight and you would end up fighting him off whoever upset him before he killed them. Anyhow I looked at him wondering what was about to happen and he just said don’t worry Tony, I’m not even going to turn around because if I do and anyone is laughing whether they threw the bag or not I’m going to tear their head off and I really want to watch Metallica. That event was a turning point in his life.
Last concert I attended was RHCP’s at the Ricoh. Not long after that kids arrived and haven’t been to one since.
Aaron?Copeland is a real favourite of mine
Is there another??Aaron?
Stuart.Is there another??
I haven't been to a concert in decades.
The last concert I saw was The Jags at a small club (Trax) in New York City in the mid-eighties.
Before that I saw Steppenwolf at the Bottom Line in New York City.
Everything depends on the location.
Trax was just a glorified bar with standing only and a stage on the side.
The Bottom Line was a club where you could sit at tables.
Further back I went to quite a few sit-down concerts at places like Carnegie Hall, Birmingham Town Hall, Coventry Theatre, Royal Albert Hall etc.
The biggest concert I went to was The Doors and jefferson Airplane at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, London. That was 1968.
Ancient History now.
Steppenwolf were the best of those three because we were a lot closer to the stage. The Doors and Jefferson Airplane we were far away. You seen Steppenwolf, The Doors, and Jefferson Airplane , bloody hell I'm envious ! I've just included in my new rockblock The Pusher and Love Her Madly both great tracks. So it's not how many concerts we've been to but who we've seen that counts. What a band CV you have !
I reckon you have the most impressive CV of bands/acts seen I know. Respect !Steppenwolf were the best of those three because we were a lot closer to the stage. The Doors and Jefferson Airplane we were far away.
That wasn't everyone I've seen. I saw The Who a couple of times, Jimi Hendrix (Coventry Theater), Led Zeppelin (Locarno Balroom), Ginger Baker's Air Force (Birmingham Town Hall) , The Mothers of Invention with Frank Zappa (Royal Albert Hall) and many other bands.
Can't even remember them all now.
Who else went to Phoenix Festival in Stratford? 96 was a brilliant line up, the traffic to get to the site not so brilliant.
