Its not jus tone bad game look at how many points he personally cost us last season especially at home when he was on the left wing and be being lazy and refusing to track back sometimes after it was him that had lost the ball and the left back was beaten 2-1 and goals came from it. I have always thought he was lazy even the 1st time we had him and living of the name of being the local wonder boy which he isnt anymore. There has always been a problem with his temprement that was shown by him being shipped out to Luton earlier in his career more then once and would have made it permanent if Luton could have afforded the transfer fee. He then thought he was too big for the club and went to sit on Birminghams bench for 3 years and when he realised that had gone wrong he comes crawling back knowing we would have him, He needs to do alot more to change my personal opinion HOWEVER............ with him at the front of the diamond and by being given a free role to do what he want with limited defensive duties i feel he can be very affective and AT with get the best from him

it was first game of season in a position he hasnt played for a while,chill out...uneventful performance,maybe even bad i agree howeverbell was worse,didnt do a thing which is criminal in midfieldand before the red card i felt baker was worst of the bunch,refused to mvoe with ball at his feet,was just another steven hughes gettuing the ball then releasing it with no intention of moving play forwards

Completely agree. He was one of the few players to excite me almost every game last season and one of our most creative and consistent players. I know other thought he was rubbish last season, but I disagree with that and having had that debate many times I'm not having it again!

He was very poor on Saturday, but IMO so were about 6 of the starting line up. My concern is that AT is too soft on the players and needs to get them all fitter, including McSheffrey, who was the most unfit apart from Bell (who has been injured so has an excuse).

He was our best player along with Sammy under AT last season by a mile. They made the system work. Dunno what you were watching!

First off I have never been a big fan of Sheffers ............ Saturday he was poor, little contribution, off the pace and made a tough game harder for those around him especially Juke.......... however it was only one game and it is how he comes back from that performance that is important. Think we have to give all the players a few games before we hail as stars or write them off. Up to AT to sort it out - which is the difference for AT this season , last one he could say the chains are off go play (they already had the fitness) this year is where we find out if he can manage

Sheffers played the first 5 games under Thorn but was then injured for the rest of the season which was another 5 games I beleive. In those 5 games though I thought he was brilliant under AT and imo the best player ahead of King/Clingan for those 5 games, if he can recapture that form he will have a brilliant season.

Hmm, I wouldnt say he was the best player. He did improve when Boothroyd went and he had a couple of good games but he wasn't a patch on King!

I never was a fan of McSheffry. My lad was at school with him and said he was a bit of a bighead back then. Too big for his boots IMO. I wasn't exactly overjoyed when he re-signed for us.

Not so sure we should start picking players for their like-ability factor though. We are already struggling to field an 11 without deciding if we should only pick people we like or not.

What does everyone expect? He's proven many times that he isn't a striker, offers nothing defensively (or much else to be honest) on the wing and was shocking for most of last season - was hoping Thorn had him on side but appears not. Didn't want to sign him last summer (neither did Leeds fans after a failed loan with them in League 1) and didn't want him to sign an extension but he's playing because there is nobody to challenge him.

Can still be a player on his day, but those are few and far between.

got to be honest i would be more inclined to cut him more slack as a cov kid but point is he didnt have a great season last year overall and has started poorly this. I hope he turns it around because he can do well if his head is in the right place

If it was Leon Best in his place on Saturday he would have been bood for being lazy. Sheff just isn't used to the position because he hasn't played there for a while....

I agree.
When was played on the left wing people defended him, saying he should be played up front.
He was played up front on Saturday.
But he was played behind King and Juke before he got injured at the end of last season - and I think he did well enogh in that position.

I think he actually gets less slack because he's a Cov kid. A lot of people have never forgiven him for leaving for Brum (probably the same folk who say we should flog Turner!). I've heard and read him getting loads of stick over the years, and I'm pretty unmovable in my view that he was amongst our best 3 players for 90% of last season, and probably all the games he played under AT. He was just simply the only player to get me excited.

He wasn't used to his best on the wing by Boothroyd and spent most of the game facing his own goal and defending-something he's rubbish at and ill suited to. Despite that, he was usually the only player to provide any flair or creativity, and everyone seems to forget the great goalscoring run he still managed from out wide.

He had a purple patch where he scored most of his goals last season, the same purple patch incidentally Platt and Turner went on. That was it seemed at the time, caused by his being dropped so he had a point to prove.

My problem is that I honestly think I could score as many as him if my only job was to hang around and wait for a chance to pop up. He creates nothing, he adds nothing defensively, he doesn't make runs to open space for others, he doesn't beat a man. He just kind of wanders around the pitch not doing a lot.

Also worth pointing out that the season before he was sold aside, I've always thought he was like that. For me he's a player who made his name on one good season and has done nothing since, much like Eastwood in that respect.

I keep hearing this defence, but it's not like we asked him to play Goal Attack in a girl's netball game. Not knowing your position is no excuse for not getting involved in the game at all.

I didn't say I was as good as McSheffrey, just that I'd score as many goals if given such little responsibility on the pitch. The point was that a team of our standing cannot afford to be carrying players, which is what McSheffrey requires.

To be fair I don't like him. My old signature on GMK had him and Doyle as players I wouldn't like no matter what they did, similarly I like Cranie Bell and Clingan no matter what.

And I didn't say he was rubbish before we sold him, I thought he had a good season that year and the one after for Brum, but before that I never saw the messiah some painted him as.

I'd also like to add, if he's such a City fan, why hasn't he signed the new contract offered to him?

Like I say he's probably for you the same as Bell is for me. You like him, you can't point to specific attributes or moments in games to back it up. No problem with that at all, part of being a football fan I guess.

Bit rude. No need for that I was quite polite to you. If you can't discuss opinions different to your own then may I suggest you're in the wrong place?

No (for the third time) I don't think I'm a better player, I think that if all I had to do was hang around and score goals (which is all McSheffrey supporters point to in his defence) then I could also score, what was it 8 in 34? The point being that that itself is not much of an achievement. McSheffrey is MUCH better than me at passing, shooting and dribbling, the problem I have with him is he doesn't seem to want to show this on the pitch. Instead he wanders around like a lost child.

Out of interest are you now ignoring me because I used to post on GMK (in which case you'll be ignoring the majority of posters on here) or because I admitted that I'm human and have favourite and not so favourite players (in which case you'll be ignoring ALL posters, including yourself)?

I wouldn't really say they are GMK comments, I kind of agree.

Last season for a lot of games he was shocking, really shocking and couldn't even kick a ball. In one game he threw the ball back to their keeper, it was the angriest I have been at a football match in my life. I am not one for booing or abusing players but I did have a big sigh and swear to myself with a big face palm!

One good season? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't he our top scorer 3 seasons in a row from left wing? McSheffrey used to win us games on his own. The younger McSheffrey was the best player we've had since being in the championship IMO.

You don't seem to have a personal view. You can see SISU leaving and Hoffman taking over at the same time as you can see SISU staying and pulling the Hoffs Plonker.

Yeah, i hope so. Gary Hoffman is looking like a promising investor. Cov fan himself and lots of investors wishing to back lots of money. I think we could be seeing the back of SISU soon.

I really hope you are right guicey15, I know Sisu saved our bacon 3 years ago, but I think they are just treading water and will dice us up for their own selfish reasons.

Trouble with Hoffman is, I think they are jerking his chain and will refuse any offer he gives....I think they have an agenda.. that doesnt include Gary

I'm afraid I think your right, they are trying there best to keep Hoffman out, but I think fans pressure will get too much soon. I am grateful for SISU saving us 3 years ago, but they've had 3 years to deliver there promises and they have done nothing beneficial for the club.
