dont get me wrong i am not getting carried away and counting chcikens trust me but rupertbear mentioned in another thread if mowbray was slowly building for the future with bigi and possibly turner coming back etc and it got me thinking

so who from current squad could make jump to championship? dont worry about loans, just imagine that we can get loans back for another season deal or some loans cancel contracts or they expire and we sign them permantnetly, just wanna know how current squad(up to you if you wanna include turner or not) is equipped for step up right now

for me those that can do well in championship for us are:

Reece Charles Cook - really think this keeper is gonna go on to be one of the best we have had, his quick throws really add something to our game, helped set up equaliser on saturday, not sure if many saw that, shot stopping is immense and general handling and not giving up silly rebounds makes him a keeper(literally) for me

John Fleck - we are seeing the best of him now and he is vital to our form, our spark of creativity from midfield. think he would be much better in championship now, mis managed before

Jacob Murphy - sensibe move for him to play championship footy i think, not ready for prem but propven in league one, he will be at championship team next year, lets hope its us!

Adam Armstrong - same as jacob,it just makes sense for him to move up a level, difference with adam is perhaps he will be fast tracked to prem because he is that good. but if we get promoted there is a chance we could keep him i think for 1 more year

Ben Turner - IF we get him on loan let alone end of seaosn, but proven in championship and did ok in prem too!

Bigirimama - career hasnt panned out as he would like but he has played in prem and europa and more experienced now after doing ok in championship in a poor thorn team. think he wouldnt be out of place in championship

James Maddison - destined for the very top for me,could deal with step up easily

Joe cole-IF match fit his quality is more than enough for championship

Question marks-have potential to do well but im just not sure

vincelot-warrior,but has he ever played above league one?
ricketts-v good but v old
stokes-monumental rise but championship a step too far?
kent-rough diamond needs polishing more, but he could be ready for step up too
JOB- came from championship but good enough to be a player in top 10 team?
Lamieries- needs to be more conssitent in league one first
Fortune- too old at 35 next year?,i like him thoughhaynes-progress seems to have stopped recently

Defintley not good enough

Burge
C Thomas
Finch
Tudgay-good for our level but dont see anything that would make me wanna keep him if we got promoted
martin
phillips

overall thats quite promising if we could get some of them back that is!

like i said its just a bit of fun because were doing so well and i find myself dreaming of next year and if we can do well, would be interesting if many of these moves become longer term as perhaps TM does have a master plan

I think the only one I would change is Lameiras. I think he could make the step up. Would obviously need time to learn the different pressures of Championship football, but confident he could do it.

If our contracted players.

Fleck
Maddison

And possibly:
Vincelot
JOB
RCC

I'm not going to include the loan players as I can't see them coming back.

This made me laugh, suddenly we're a top 10 championship team.

Worry about next years squad in May depending where we are. TM was top at xmas before and didnt make play-offs. Still a long season to go.

No point in discussing the loans as they wont be here. RCC, Maddison and Vincelot are good enough. Fleck and Lameiras are maybes. That's about it. We'll need pretty much a whole new team.

For me ricketts (but is he too old now), fleck and Vincelot are good enough. I need to see more of RCC. Martin maybe with the right player alongside. Maddison if he returns from injury ok should be good enough. Stokes if he continues to improve should do fine. JOB possible as squad player but wouldn't see him as first choice. Lameries I like but not convinced at higher level.
TM a definite.
The loans...I think Kent, Murphy and Armstrong will end up in the championship or higher but probably not with us.

what are you talking about? i never said we are top 10?

i am just saying not sure if TM would want to improve on JOB in a higher league or not

You could also compare our current squad to the squad we had when we were relegated. Are we that much better?

Depends if you include loans. Yes better going forward. When on song v creative and would still look ok on championship. Defensively we have been hit and miss and conceded v soft goals.

Strange one.

By definition if a team gets promoted then as a group they have made the jump to the next level.

you know what i mean you smarty pants, which would TM wanna keep to have a successful season in championship?(be that avoid relegation or mid table)

Who has a contract past the summer?

RCC, Maddison, Lameiras, Burge, Haynes, Harries, G Thomas, Stevenson

Vincelot, Stokes have an option.

It's basically a blank slate, I wonder if that's intentional.

I think any of RCC, Willis, G Thomas, Maddison, Harries, Stevenson, Lameiras would all be worth keeping on potential alone.

Of the older players, I think Ricketts could do a job at RB, Stokes might continue his development, Vincelot and Fleck could do a job, JOB as a squad player. That's about it.

i would argue that a couple of defenders short of a very good squad (loans included) - and is probably much better than the squad that got relegated

Sorry but if we include loanees there is no point.. who is good enough THAT WE HAVE ON CONTRACT is different. ..not sure until we see but have to say at the beginning of this season we never really had a team and look what Mr Mowbray and Co have got for us... I am not bothered who stays goes because we are rising :)

We have a better manager.

In theory, but we all know it doesn't work that way. At the end of any season there is always a significant change in personnel, so it follows that after promotion those changes would include strengthening any weak areas.

We have a better manager.

easy to say when cant be proven wrong but i personally think mowbray would have kept us up with same squad thorn took us down with

last year in league 1 he showed that jsut doing basics can be enough to scrape results.

We have a better manager.

Can't disagree with that, but I don't think our current squad (minus the loanees) is superior to the one that floundered in the Championship.

Am surprised some have included Haynes?!!

You should be as no one has. As the only one who has mentioned him I should be clear that that was a list of those who have a contract past this summer, the list of who I think could step up is after that.
