Its a win, win if he steps up, so any hard feeling towards him is short sighted and makes no sense for all concerned.

Didn't he join us at 16 from Birmingham after being released?

Agree though he deserves the chance and we need to keep pathway open for more players of his ilk to come through.

Glad you agree as it's a real pet hate of mine. I just don't understand the negativity directed towards players who have given their all for the shirt, played well and yet some fans hold the notion that they're never allowed to leave unless it's on our terms.

Without a doubt he does. How well he do is slightly unpredictable as I have a slight feeling his size may let him down but we'll see!

In honesty, I think people criticising need to rethink.

Imagine you're working in a factory for Ford, earning 20k a year at 24 years old. Youve worked there for 6 years and they've served you well, although the owners of the business are more interested in their own financial gain and willing to shit on their staff to do so. You get offered a job with Rolls Royce, doing the same job but for a higher quality finish, earning 50k a year.

Wouldn't you take it?

Local kids and academy players should really take a look at Jordans career path, how hard he's worked to get where he is and to earn this opportunity. The loyalty he's shown to the club and his own beliefs/work ethic. The fact that when he got offered a higher level earlier on in his career, he didn't persue it as he knew he wasn't ready, probably wouldn't be playing first team and wasn't blinded by the money. He's earned captaincy for the club at his heart.
But now he's ready for that step up, he'll know he's first team quality especially for a newly promoted team, rather than rotting in the reserves or loaned out to conference teams all to earn 5k a week more like we've seen so often throughout the footballing world (Take George Thomas for example) He's a model professional footballer and person, should be inspiration for any local lad/girl who wants to succeed, not just in football but throughout any career.

Not only that, this is just another academy product that the club/staff can be proud of, historically we've had so many players cone through us to move onto better things. Look at Daniel Sturridge and James Maddison for a start.

I’ve always rated him and as a fan base we’ve all witnessed him improve over the years. I’ve no idea why he was played at RB so much, it was evident that wasn’t his position and it probably hampered his development.

He’s a good CB, but let’s not underestimate how important pace is to his game. If he didn’t have it, I’m not sure we’d be as concerned to be losing him. And unfortunately he won’t have pace forever and better strikers will work out ways to bypass that attribute.

As mentioned before Williams seems a fairly like for like replacement from my brief observations of him, however I’ve no idea how close to first team level he is yet.

I’d like Willis to stay, but I’m resigned to losing him unfortunately, and at least we still have a strong L1 pairing in Davies and Hyam.

I think you miss my point, he can leave if he wants but by running down his contract he makes sure that the club that picked him up after Birmingham rejected him receive zero recompense for the time and money they've invested in him.

Not wholly against your argument re: us losing out on getting money for a player. although we can do the same to another club (and probably will) ; more against D O'D's vitriol to a departing player who has served us well.

If you're going to start name calling at least get your facts right. They most certainly are in a position to offer much more for starters as their playing budget is larger than ours, so they can offer more wages and bonuses. Last year I think they had the highest average wage for their players in League Two at just over £2000 per week. Not sure what our average wage was but TF claimed our budget sat within the top 8 so you can presume it's certainly less than Luton's. Plus, they can now offer Championship football, something that Willis has missed out on over the last 2 years due to various reasons.

Why is it 'having morals'?. So by your logic if an employee head hunted you and offered you a higher contract to effectively do the same job, would your morals tell you to turn that down then? This is the most common occurrence in football so it puzzles me why fans such as you throw your toys out the pram when a player leaves for free. It's fine to be frustrated but to place unwarranted blame on a player who's stuck with the club through some of the bleakest times in our history is childish. It's bizarre how you clearly think players aren't allowed to leave clubs unless it's on the fans terms.

Willis could have left when we were relegated to League 2. He stayed, as far as I’m concerned he’s done his time and at 24 you’re about to hit your best years

Luton can offer more money, are a more stable club and in a higher division. He can either play Championship football now or stay at us, in league one and hope we get promoted.

Bore off with your “he owes the club” he owes us nothing. Captained us to the checkatrade trophy, and scored in the play off final. I suppose you won’t support Drysdale for leaving Tranmere or Dexter Walter, Morgan Williams for leaving their clubs.

You move on for financial betterment and better prospects - as all of us would do

Fair enough if Willis wants and play at higher level I don’t knock anyone with ambition.

However not everyone moves jobs for more money etc. I could earn a lot more elsewhere, but I like what I do and who I work with so haven’t moved, I don’t have that thing in me to be best I can.
If I was a footballer I’d be like Matt Le tissier and rather stay somewhere where I could become a club legend.
Or if I was centre forward I’d rather play a div below my level and score goals every week than play at higher level but struggle.

Footballers are generally ambitious types who want to play at the highest level.

Le Tiss is obviously a saints club legend but if he took the chance he’d have played for england a lot more.

Shearer has said himself that he regrets not going to Man Utd when he had the chance.

With the greatest respect unless you're in the shoes of a professional footballer you can't say what you would or would not do. Football has evolved massively since Matt Le Tisser last played and ambition trumps club loyalty 9 times of out 10 in today's game. Perhaps hypothetically if you were playing 20/30 years ago you would've played your entire career at one club as that was more of a commonality. But what you would've done during that period is irrelevant as times change, especially now a slug of money has been pumped into the game - which whether you like it or not is always going to be a lure for the majority of players. Contracts are now being offered even at League One and Two level that can completely change the lives of footballers and their families for the better. So, whilst it's a nice thought that you'd want to become a club legend, I find it difficult to believe you wouldn't put the financial security of your children and even your grandchildren above being popular amongst your clubs' fanbase.

This article featuring every current longest serving player at each premier league club gives an insight into my points about how club loyalty and the modern game have simultaneously evolved. I don't think it's a coincidence that Le Tissier beats everyone on this list by a country mile.

You mean the Luton Town that had a bigger turnover, smaller losses, back to back automatic promotions, are building their own ground not just talking about ideas, have spent £26m on it so far, with a plan to have part of the development sold to make them debt free (sounds familiar), have improved their training ground spending £1.5m, already with a far better balance sheet than us and owners prepared to invest significant sums ........ that Luton Town ? They might fail in the Championship but they could also succeed, they certainly seem to be creating something viable

Willis hasn't done anything wrong in making a choice that benefits himself and those he cares about. Doesn't owe us anything. Good luck to him, except if he ever plays against CCFC

I also don’t get this “he’s been a good servant” for us. Coventry City has been a good servant for Jordan Willis and also stuck by him during that god awful team that went down to L2 while others were quite rightly booted out of the door.

Having said that the lower level (L2) has done him good and we can see how much he has improved in L1 this time around whereas last time he was as bad as the rest.
Won’t be losing too much sleep over it but wish him the best and there will be another Jordan Willis along soon enough.
