Murray carried that injury for some time yet performed admirably. Novak also has had injuries and a general downturn in form. For both players a little burn out was inevitable also which contributes to injury woes. Nadal was the one who had reached something of his best form coming in but he was shocked in the last round. Fed took time out and prepared for Wimbledon only, injury free to give himself the best chance, but even he could not have predicted the fall of the 'top 3'. This his Fed's to lose now. he has not had a tough opponent yet. Today a very below par Raonic failed to test him.
It's opened up for Federer. Only Cillic stands in his way for me.
The likes of the new pretenders in Theim and co simply did not show up.
It all depends how bad his injury and whether this is something that will now niggle and hamper him for the rest of his career. I'm surprised he carried on yesterday, despite obviously being in pain and unable to move. He could have done even more lasting damage by carrying on.
Difficult to predict the outcome of the men's singles title this year.
But I'll go with Nadal.
If I was looking for the unexpected then Murray. He proved at the French without real form, he can play his way through in the big tournaments and this is his best surface. Djokovic likewise.
Federer?...too much f an ask tbf.
Another clueless statement. He's just beaten Raonic who knocked him out last year and Dimitrov who is playing as well as he has for years.
Just because he beat them both easily doesn't mean they weren't tough opponents, both would have taken sets off Murray, Novak and Nadal this year had they met, he's just a class above currently.
But youre right its probably "too much of an ask tbf"
Is it just me or was it blatantly obvious what the reporter meant to Murray when he said about US players reaching the semi finals rather than sexism?
People climbing in his arse for "pointing out casual sexism". He wasn't, he was being a bit of a dick. It's like interviewing a male team's manager and him saying it is sexist because it was aimed at the male team's statistic and not the women's also.
It was a bit sloppy from the journalist. Tennis is one of the only major sports in which the female game is (almost) on a par with male game in terms of prize money/sponsorship/interest etc, therefore not really sure you can compare it to a similar comment made about football for example.
However, probably nothing more than a genuine mistake and, like everything these days, has been blown massively out of proportion.
Tut Tut Nick. You need to go on a gender awareness course to get rid of those red blooded caveman style views.
for the record, yes you're right. Common sense out of the window time.
