A team always gets in the play offs from the middle of the pack. Our season could go one of two ways. But if we eradicate sloppy individual errors there is no reason why we can't get up there. At least Pressley has identified the problem.
For me the January window will be key. We can afford to let Christie go under the circumstances, but need the rest to stay. We probably need two quality players coming in, maybe three.
We are in a position where it could go either way up or down ?I've written before we are strong up front and will score goals. But we concede silly goals and are prone to errors in midfield putting pressure on our not so strong defence, which has to be addressed or the season once again could end up being a disappointing one.We do need another midfield player and a decent defender to give us some strength when the pressures on in my opinion.
I think Christie returning coincided with our defensive frailties returning. He offers a threat going forward and this of course can leave a gap at the back which we struggled to cope with. Since his return he has struggled slightly and we have continued to leak goals. If he leaves in Jan we will see Willis or Phillips take over and with Willis in the back line this should see us become more solid as he does not get forward a la Christie. Another problem is the hole between our centre MIDs and halves. Oldham's (no 14 I believe) was able to drop in between the lines and was able to get turned and to run at Seaborne. If we are able to retain Seaborne this will be a plus point as I was quite impressed with him yesterday.
That is going too far. Our form over the first half of the season would have us in 6th position. The 10 point deduction means we are 12th. If we assume the same form in the second half, we will finish about 8th or 9th. Jack's form table above is interesting, however as we know we were missing both strikers during that period, we can make allowances and say this is an unrepresentative sample.
Of course, we may not replicate the same form in the second half. We may buy two fabulous centre halves in January - or indeed we may sell Clarke and Wilson. However the mean projected finish would be 8th from the statistics at least.
IMHO we wouldn't be doing much better if we played our home games at home. Our record at Northampton is 7 wins, 3 draws and 3 defeats. We have only won 4 away games. The defence is our problem.
@ mrtrench....How is my post "Going too far"?...........Last 8 league games...W-2...D-3...L-3...Nowhere near promotion form mate. Some of you need to get your "Heads out of the sand" and make it PDQ.
