I started following the City in 1963 in the old days when footballers still wore huge boots and long shorts. They were paid as much as most people earn (before the days of stupid fuckin' wages which I've always believed killed our game). I would have started following them earlier, but spent the first years of my childhood in a convent in Brum and didn't return to Cov until I was 10. I proudly watched them become champions of the old 3rd division (where we are now heading!) and have not looked back since. I've not always attended all matches, due to work, finances or other reasons but my heart has always been there.
I can honestly say that this is the worst I have felt regarding the team since that very first game I attended all those years ago - and that's including being relegated from the Premiership. I actually believed at the time that we would bounce back after a season or two, but no. We are still in the Championship after nearly 12 years of struggle and now looking ever more likely for a further drop down. It looks like I have gone full circle with my beloved Sky Blues. Back to "Division 3"
There are many younger fans who don't have the memories of playing the elite teams of the Premiership week in, week out. Now, sadly, it looks like it could be THEIR children or even grandchildren who might get that chance. I know I will never see it again in my lifetime.
I will follow my club till the day I die, but alas with some less pride after all the years of hurt and humiliation of one form or another. This is what being a Sky Blue supporter is all about.
I would love to wish the club every success for the future but I just don't see a future. Am I being over cynical or just realistic? Sorry guys, it's just the way I feel at the moment.
Good points Houch but don't beat yourself upto much it could all change over night, que the Russian / Chinese billionaire to take us over lead by Elliot and Hoffman, no lies, no hidden agendas, a team capable of challenging at this level and 25,000+ back at the Ricoh ....well we can all dream can't we?
can't & won't argue,
our owners have put us in the mire,
surely they should be held liable for their total failure,
if you read this 'kd' do the honourable thing,
you are a disgrace
And that is what makes it even sadder for us older ones. All the great players we watched at HR compared to the rubbish we have seen since we went down, it just heart braking
Look, don't feel too down, think of the immense pleasure you will feel when we do finally balance the books, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. it gets me hard just thinking about it.
The worst I felt was when Bantams (the Bants) as they were called then, was relegated from the Third Division (South) to form the new Fourth Division. Really happy days though as things got better from then on !!!!
