Wow...what a difference 23 days make... (2 Viewers)

Just over 3 weeks ago, I sat at home watching Cov at home to Cardiff in the tin pot cup and I honestly don't think I've ever felt so dis-engaged as a CCFC fan in over 30 years of being a fan. Not playing in Coventry, didn't recognise 95% of the players playing in the Sky Blue shirt, there seemed to be no motivation in the players, the performance was awful, especially in the 1st half and I felt that in front of the TV cameras, we came across as an absolute wreck of a club.

Forward 23 days and I'm typing after getting home at 1am from last nights game and watching the game back on catch up this morning. There's no doubt that I've NEVER felt such a swing in emotions in such a short space of time.

I can't believe last night happened...I might be over-reacting but I'm still in awe of everything about last night. I arrived at the ground about 90 minutes early as I drove from the South Coast and wanted to ensure I didn't get caught in traffic and I also wanted to soak up the atmosphere. Ambling around the ground on my own, it was great to see so many happy faces. I managed to get a 'selfie' with Reda when he arrived, spent 15 minutes searching for the brick I bought my step-dad in one of the walls, had a nice chat with a steward who was a Man Utd fan and merrily had a cheeky pint on my own in the casino.

Once I got into the bowl, the next 120 minutes was simply emotional. Us fans have been through so much shit in the past x years but last night, we truly showed SISU, ACL, CCC, Pressley, the team and fans around the world (probably just the UK) watching on TV, how we react. Collectively, regardless of whether we attended Sixfields or not, or signed a petition or not, or went on a march or not, we showed everyone that we MUST be playing in Coventry and to coin a phrase..."they shan't defeat us".

Credit to the team...although nervy for parts of the 2nd half, I thought we played some nice football, especially in the first 25 minutes and the youngsters weren't overawed by the occasion. Defensively, I think we looked pretty tight, although I'm not 100% convinced on Allsop (the keeper, not the sponsor!). He could've cost us at the end but the back 3/5 looked pretty tight over all. Midfield again looked good overall...I thought O'Brien was excellent...a real great signing for us, Fleck technically looks a good player; maybe just needs a little better composure on the ball and only Thomas disappointed me. Good first 20/25 but was careless from then on. I wonder if Mo Coulibaly might slot in there in his place, although a slightly different player. The front two I think were our weakest department last night...not convinced on them although they're both pretty green in their Sky Blue careers, especially Nouble.

However, 3 young Coventry lads stole the show in my eyes...Willis was extremely consistent, hardworking and didn't put a foot wrong, Clarke made some excellent tackles and was dependable but Haynes...wow. What a great prospect we have in this young lad....our very own Gareth Bale! He's the type of player that I'm normally resigned to losing in the next 2-3 years. If our club moves forward how we all want, maybe he can be a fulcrum in something special.

As for Pressley...to me, this man can do no wrong. Passionate about the team, passionate about the city and passionate about taking us forward. His post-match interview showed how much this whole situation means to him. The fact that he's here and not in 'Uddersfield I think is a great sign for our future (in my opinion anyway).

The night was summed on for on about 67 mins when a chorus of 'Stand up, if you love City' rang around the ground. It was immense being there, it was intense watching it back this morning. The Sky pundits seemed amazed by the energy and passion of that. I think that moment summed up the past 18 months and how we've worked hard to get back to the Ricoh. Plenty of work to do both on and off the pitch but for a few days, the outlook doesn't matter. The here and now is special, especially when compared to Cardiff, 23 days ago.

WM.

PS. Massive, massive thanks to World in Motion...thanks for the ticket mate...great to meet you and your family, hope you had a safe journey home.

Agreed the Cardiff game was soul crushing and embarrassing, the absolute complete opposite of last night which was both something to be proud of and to fill your spirit. I got alot of the love back last night.

I tell you what 'Skyblueweeman' I could not have put it better myself, what a great little essay you have produced and reading it made me realise just how lucky I was to be there last night.

The atmosphere was better than I anticipated last night, well done to all.

Lets keep this run going now and the crowds will return

Lovely post that, captured the feelings of so many. Long after the details of the night are forgotten, we will always remember how it made us feel. It might just be me but I'm actually feeling a little flat and blue today, almost as if the emotions and adrenalin rush of last night has left me drained and spent. Hard to think of anything (that I'd freely mention here) that might cure that better than getting back to the Ricoh next Saturday. #pusb

Brilliant post Weeman, absolutely spot on.

The moment when we sang 'Stand up if you love City' and the whole stadium rose, made me feel proud to be a fan of the club, and to be there last night. Amazing!

Just thinking back Moff, I think that was my best moment and when it at all truly sank in. Spine tingling sounds corny but for me, it truly was!

It was fantastic.

Where did you end up Weeman? I was in 28, and on that subject a huge thankyou to DazzleTommyDazzle, a gentleman of the highest order, who on hearing my plight for tickets for myself and my kids secured three for me, and then arranged in his own time to meet me before the game last night to give me the tickets, and then refused any payement. An unbelievable act of kindness that I was humbled to accept, and hope one day I can repay the favour.

I was in 19 mate. Normally in the Telegraph end but couldn't get a ticket...thankfully, WiM had a spare. Great isn't it....you can get a ticket of what in essence are random strangers yet we can be so bloody friendly! I had to make sure he was telling the truth as it would've been a wasted round trip of 290 miles!

Great post weewan, great words and passionate about our club.half way "through stand" up I could not speak or sing, I was almost overcome.I was protesting on the hill with banners at the Cardiff game and thought we were in it for the long haul. How wrong was I and the rest of the trust members and hillers .Fantastic night on the return.i can now celebrate 50 years of support after last year was taken away from me(apart from away games of course)
even though I am not a fan of Fisher and SISU , I believe we need to move on ,do the good things we know can change the fortunes of the club , by giving the players the support they need at The Ricoh.lets spread the word to lapsed fans and friends who have not gone for a while. CITY ARE BACK

Bang on mate, bang on. What's happened has happened. Hopefully the increased revenue will make it's way to SP for the January transfer window and hopefully we're in a position to be challenging for the play offs. Onwards and upwards Tommy!

Well said weeman, it was epic last night and that moment when stand up rang round the ground proved that the Ricoh could be a great football stadium. I fell a little bit in love with it last night.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading that, great night, good win in the end and nice to see the fanbase is still there.
Bit of a let down was the f+b kiosks, missed ten mins of second half due to queueing, but once youve been in the queue for 20 mins, im gonna have a beer cos I aint queued for nowt!

Bit of pick on the OP: 3 Coventry lads on show last night were Clarke, Willis and Thomas, isnt Haynes from Daventry?

Fantastic, really, really, nice gesture.

Ryan Haynes just another 2million pounds to SISU.
With a full stadium every week playing in the top flight we still will be selling our better players to better teams, its not a modern day were skint thing. Its football. Sisu or not it will never change!

Hi Weeman, couldn't get a ticket, even relatives in Coventry missed out as well. Watched it on sky though. Fantastic support and a good 1st half.

I saw a couple of guys walking round the ground before the game with a sign saying "need 2 tickets please". Fair play to them!

Tickets could have sold for £50+ IMO

I would have payed that anyway, nothing would have kept me going that I could help :)

Yeah..I reckon the match still would've sold out if the tickets were £20 but it was a nice gesture for the first game!

I do feel for those that couldn't get tickets, then seeing 5,000 empty seats on TV. Feel extremely lucky to say: "I was there"

last night was right up there for me, probably the 4th most memorable game i have attended ( cup final, semi final and the last game at HR)

There were times i was close to tears and couldnt sing, but very happy to absorb the amazing atmosphere.

Because of geography it's hard to get to away games let alone home ones. So a little gutting not to be able to make it to the big occasions like last night but they won't be the last to happen and one day hopefully I won't live so far away! The division that was rife among the fans a few weeks ago seems to have been replaced with the opposite as WM and Moff's posts show.

I know what you mean. I'm in Bournemouth (not quite as extreme as yourself) but always a huge cost/time to get to games.

Agreed, there's just a couple of simpletons still sniping, but the fanbase is united once again :)
