Thanks. It seems we are gathering friends around football, genuine people who can sympathise with our plight (except Sunderland mongs who can't forget a perceived slight from 35 years ago).

It was your day today and your fans made a fantastic occasion and atmosphere. I agree that the BBC tried their best to ignore us. If that was any other club they'd have shown a lot more of the away support and gone on and on about how great they were but for some reason all the TV companies have always tried to ignore us, especially the Brum based biased Central, stemming from the days when that wanker Newbon was in charge.

Good luck to Saints in the Prem.

The support towards us was brilliant, I spoke to many saints who were very polite as were the stewards (unlike ours).
I was very impressed when the sisu out flag was unvailed, and I'd like to thank any saints fans that applauded us in and outside the ground!

Good luck! We will meet again!;)

Cheers Dibbs, while making our protest as well, I think most of us just wanted to add to your lot's day. We have a lot of shared and similar history, i think that was reflected in events. It's not normally my thing but the mutual applause outside the ground, around where the buses were parked, was quite special at times:claping hands:

I don't know what the bbc showed though i can probably guess quite accutately. You have some extremely fast pitch invaders btw, if any of them want a trial for a league 1 outfit......

I stayed in Southampton till about 6-throughout the afternoon and evening, and then on the train, their fans were nothing but positive about us from the support to the way we tried to give them a game today, and then to wanting us back in the big time with them. Had some great chats with a few of them and I've got to say it made me forget the fact we'd lost 4-0; can't express enough how highly I rate them after today.

I have to say the saints fans are the best I have ever encountered from an opposition team, and I wish them well for next season.

I posted on one of their fans forums and the general support they have given us, the friendlyness and good grace has been excellent. The wish us well, and hope we rise again soon. I cant fault them.

I've alot of time for saints fans and the club itself.. Whenever i've spoken to any fans they seem a nice bunch, unlike your rivals..
Hope you guys stay up in the prem, always thought Southampton should be there (along with Sheff Wed).

Superb support and I too have a lot of respect for the Southampton fans after yesterday.

The mutual applause between fans was good to see, and shows that not all football fans are 'hooligans', which can sometimes come as a label when being a football supporter.

Southampton FC and their fans should be proud of themselves. Their a credit to the game and I for one am pleased they'll be in the top flight next season

Ps, thanks Dibbs

two sets of great fans, saints deserve to go up. I was so glad they did over WH! No doubt they need to invest in some players but with that team spirit they stand every chance.

Fantastic support from you guys, made the day a little less depressing. Congratulations, and good luck in the future.
P.S - I think you just gained a few "supporters" for your premier league stay :)

Spoke to a couple of the local police force , and all were in agreement that the City FANS were a credit to the club (one pc was even a Pompey supporter seconded to the game ) , well done to all who travelled down to St Marys .:claping hands:

Hello lads,

Another Saints fan here. Firstly, well done on the way your young lads approached the game - on another day you could have been 1-0 up in the first ten minutes and it would have been new trouser time! ;)

I can't comment on your manager or players as a whole because, to be honest, I have enough trouble at my age keeping up with my own team... But, I do know exactly how it feels to sit where you sat, to feel what you felt and to know how it is waking up the following morning in a sea of hopelessness. It seems like a lifetime ago when we were relegated from the Championship under the stewardship of an insane chairman and managed by two Dutch jokers who made Steve McLaren look like Pep Guardiola. Our team was full of kids, some with talent, some without and many of whom I am sure had their careers put back years by being thrown into an uwinnable situation. It felt sh**. Totally and utterly. It felt hopeless. It felt like football would move on - a train travelling in one direction only while we were on the platform watching it depart. Not sure that another train would ever arrive, let alone depart with us on it.

Coventry City was a club like ours. Keith Houchen's diving header is my abiding Cup Final memory - no idea why. Two of my best mates are Sky Blues so I've always had a soft spot for your side.

I'm glad to be back in the Premiership - but would I swap the last seven years since we've been away? No. Would I change any of it?. No. I've been to places and met people I would never have met. I've seen football played the right way by the right people supported by real fans.

Football's not about destinations, it's about the journey. And I realise now, we weren't sat on a platform. We were on another train and it just took a while to realise, to look up and enjoy the trip.

Good luck lads wherever your journey takes you. Hope to see you back on the up soon.

What a brilliantly inspiring post LTC. How would you fancy taking over from Andy Thorn? Who could not be motivated with pre-match speeches such as that?

Yet another Saint invading your board … you are proper fans from a proper club, it was a pleasure to chat with a few and if you were the boys on the train from Southampton about 6 pm that I bought a beer for, you my friends were top blokes.

We went to forest away when we went down and their fans showed the same grace that I hope we extended to you, good luck and enjoy what we hope is a journey back !!!

I was chatting on the train back to Brighton with 3 of your fans (left at half 6)-if they didn't have to get off at Havant we'd have chatted for hours and hours. Top people! :claping hands:
