Burge 8 - really important save at 1-1 had goal written all over it as their player ran onto the pass (was great pass)
Grimmer 7 not as involved as he has been
McDonald 8 won ever header I think
Willis 7 normal performance
Stokes 7 would have been some goal
Doyle 8 best game this season (gave 8 despite a few typical Doyle passes!)
Kelly 8
Jones 8
Kelly Evans 7
Vincentti na
Nazon 7 should have scored at least once

Max 6 won a lot of headers , need to learn to use him as a target man I think as his movement isn't the best

Robins 9 I know it's not too exciting to watch but we really do look good without the ball, and I'm all for no short goal kicks, we seemed to give chances away every week under Pressley and Mowbray from losing the ball from goal kicks and just been watching motd and teams are giving chances away from defenders losing it, get it out your half and get up the pitch

Hard to do one overall score again this week after another 2 halves of very contrasting football.

Burge - 7.5 - One shot one save and came a long way to make a good claim from a cross
Grimmer - 6.5 - Very willing runner and brings energy to the team. Not convinced on his defensive positioning or his passing but I guess that's why he's a L2 fullback. Seen him get beaten by his winger very easily twice in the last 2 matches.
McDonald - 8 - The rock at the back. Big, strong, calm, can pass and seems very consistent with it
Willis - 7 - Did well defensively, he's always going to look better against teams like Exeter than Cambridge and shaving off his flat top hasn't stopped him heading the ball like he's got a sponge on his head. Several awful punts forward.
Stokes - 7 - Looked better today than the last couple of weeks although another defender guilty of some ropey long passing. Marked up for his crossbar effort and actually getting further forward than any previous match this season
Vincenti - N/A - Not in the game long enough. Would have liked to have seen DKE start wide and Robins to give Vincenti a run through the middle.
Doyle - 7.5 - Rated him up for going into that Exeter player's nuts studs up. Thought he did play well 2nd half when the game opened up - his desire was clear when he won a couple of great 50/50s
Kelly - 8 - Does exactly the same as Doyle but without the circus. Think he's being held back by Robins too much and should be box to box. Was outstanding first half breaking up the play.
Jones - 8 - Our only outlet again for much of the match. Don't even want to think about him getting injured. Still a work in progress though - has to score that 1 on 1 or play Duck in for a tap in.
DKE - 8 - Dream stuff. Cov fan sealing the win in injury time against the unbeaten top of the league. Looked neat enough on the ball but largely anonymous in the 10 role during the first half - hope people stop to see it's not Beavon but our shape that's making that role so dire. Came alive on the counter attack and out wide in the 2nd half and his commitment, desire and energy was a joy to watch.
Nazon - 6.5 - Unfairly being labelled as lazy, really believe he's just not match fit yet. Tore around at times in the 2nd half but took his time getting his breath back. Held the ball up well at times too but should have hit the target with his effort at the end of the 1st half and scored with his chance in the 2nd. Also looked to be building some understanding with Biamou.
Biamou - 6.5 - Thought he did pretty well for his longest time on the pitch in L2. Won loads in the air and wasn't the open goal people made it out to be at the time, although he should have done better. Linell's comments singling him out on CWR were a disgrace. Will continue to improve with time on the pitch.

Robins - 7 - Got away with the result yesterday because of a lucky own goal otherwise it would have been an anxious last 30 minutes trying to break down an unambitious but organised Exeter team while trying to not get caught on the break. We will continue to struggle to score against the poorer teams in the league but do ok against the better ones with these tactics.

Burge 7 - didn't really have anything to do, but came up big with that late save
Grimmer 5 - not his best game, thought he was caught out a few times defensively
McDonald 9 - superb today (it was today for me before anyone comes in and corrects me) and my MOTM. Shut Reid out almost completely, confident and assured on the ball
Willis 7 - very steady again
Stokes 7 - hopefully recovers from his nosebleed that resulted from being so far up the park late on
Doyle 7 - made a few big challenges to help break up play, was good but not MOTM in my view
Kelly 7.5 - agree with Esoterica, that it would be nice to see the shackles released slightly, but I suppose Robins has his reasons for wanting him to sit deep. Also got in and broke up play quite a few times
Jones 8 - typically industrious and creative
DKE 7.5 - not great in the first half (but I at least appreciated him trying to pick the ball up between the lines). Much, much better in the second half when played wider. Deserves to keep his place I reckon
Vincenti N/A
Nazon 6.5 - love that he takes the game on, but sometimes I wish he would take the right option. I hope that comes with time
Biamou 6.5 - didn't disgrace himself at all (other than the missed chance). Combative in the air, linked solidly with the Duck. Absolutely should have scored though

Doyle 5? Seriously. Ha!!

I had Doyle as my MOTM. Yet you have DKE as your MOTM and yet he was poor in the first half. Great in the second, yes, poor performance in that first half.

Burge 6.5 - Steady and one good save.

Grimmer 5 - Skinned a couple if times and not ad influential as other games.

Willis 6 - Reasonably steady, though did let his man through for that one chance and his distribution once again was poor.

McDonald 7.5 - Solid as a rock. Assured, commanding and calm.

Stokes 6 - Great shot and was steady enough defence wise, but some shoddy passes let him down.

Vincenti - Not on long enough

Kelly 7- Some good play from the defensive midfielder. Kept it simple, made one two really clever passes and got stuck in when he needed to. Some great delivery too.

Doyle 8- Never been a great Doyle fan, but made a nuisance if himself all game yesterday, got stuck in, git in their faces, covered every blade of grass and made some very important interceptions. All round, wholehearted display and kept the game ticking for us.

Jones 7.5 - Was a threat all game and nearly everything good came through him. Still wasteful at times though.

DKE - 7 would have been more but he was poor in that first 45 mins, where the ball was bouncing off his shins, he was failing to control and losing the ball far too easily. Obviously nervous. Second half he was fab.

Nazon 5.5 - Hit and miss and again drifted out of the game all too often.

Biamou 6.5 - Made a nuisance of himself when he came on and should have scored and got in some decent positions.

The only reason I didn't mark Rod higher was because he didn't have much to contend with, what with Exeter's attack being so inept

Burge - 7 - One great save
Grimmer - 5 - Poor game by his standards
Stokes - 6 - Great shot, but still not the player he was. Slow and passing poor yet again
Willis - Steady performance
McDonald - 7 - Again showed he is our rock defensively. Signing of the season.
Kelly - 6 - Good steady performance
Doyle - 7 - Busy and hassled their players brilliantly
Jones - 7.5 - Another good performance and set up both goals. Helps out defensively too.
DKE - 7 - Thought he had a good game, busy and took his goal well
Nazon - 6.5 - Thought he looked good, touch let him down a couple of times.
Biamou - 6 - Probably his best game so far. Looked fine when passing the ball and setting up others. Can't seem to stick the ball in the net though. Get shoved off the ball too easily

VIncenti - 6 - Thought he looked OK until he was injured.

Burge: 7 solid and comfortable. Took a couple of crosses with authority. Concentrated and focused to the end coming up with the save that mattered by coming of his line and staying big.

Grimmer: 6.5 caught out a couple of times defensively but looks comfortable in the back four. A good willing worker who supports well

Willis: 7 Exeter didn't offer too much going forward but Willis kept his discipline and shape well. Never looked troubled. One very poor pass.

McDonald: 8.5. Made it look easy. Had their top scorer in his pocket for all but the one chance. Calm and authoritative. The sort of centre half all teams want and need...good on and off ball.

Stokes: 7. Better defensively yesterday and almost scored a screamer. Good to see him getting back to his norm.

Doyle: 7 combative and so important in keeping city ticking. Gets at our players, their players and the ref.

Kelley: 7. Supports Doyle well and again protects back four superbly. Yes he and Doyle play very deep but that helps back 4 no end.

Jones: 7.5 a cut above at this level and I think learning from every game. Last year he showed he had talent; now he is showing greater decision making. Still only 19, still making mistakes but a pleasure to watch. Also he is beginning to get back and help when needed.

Vincenti: thought he started ok but not on for long.

DKE: 7 worked hard. Looked a little lost at times and needs to work on his positioning and runs. Great commitment and well taken goal. Bodes well for future.

Duck: 6 again young and at times flatters to deceive. Seems to react a little slowly and needs to be on his toes. Thought 2nd half he worked well with biamou.

Biamou: 6.5...for his second half. Thought first half he wasn't at the races but after h/t started winning headers, holding ball a bit and worked well with Duck and Jodi. I thought he missed a sitter but replay shows it a little harder than that.

Robbins: 8 shuffled pack well after beavon no show and vincenti injury. He does set us up very deep but is moulding a good solid side that look capable of many clean sheets.

Here's mine

Burge - 8. Largely untroubled all game but claimed when needed to and made a good save with their only decent effort.

Grimmer - 7. Dealt well with what looked like their only attacking threat down the left. Looked ok going forward too.

Stokes - 7. Looked solid. Could have been a bit more forward thinking at times but had a good game. Would have loved his shot to have gone in. Unlucky.

Willis - 8. Best game I've seen from him in a while. Untroubled and took his man out of the game.

McDonald - 9. Outstanding. Controlled the back line, was commanding and confident with everything he did. Finding it a bit difficult to chose between him and Jones for MOTM

Kelly - 8. Does Doyle's job without the fuss and is better with the ball. If we get promoted then I think he will be key to our success.

Vincenti - N/A

Doyle - 7. I understand his importance to the team and quite like how he gets involved, but he's so wasteful with the ball which is frustrating.

Jones - 9. What a difference confidence makes. Exciting with the ball, he's also getting stuck in defensively more and is a real threat all game. He must have been screwing when Doyle was announced as MOTM. He shares the pick with McDonald for me.

Nazon - 7. Looked to be a menace at times but is in and out of the game. A poor finish in a move that deserved a goal. I like him up front though and think he deserves to keep his place.

Kelly-Evans - 8. He put himself about really well, his work rate was first class. A dream to score on his debut too, it was well deserved. I'd be sad to see him not in the starting line-up on Tuesday.

Biamou - 8. Thought he did really well when he came on. Controlled the ball well, got into some good positions. A poor finish when through on goal but if that had gone in I don't think people would be criticising him. A good game, would like to see him alongside the duck from the off on Tuesday.

I can't understand how people think in any way we got away with a result yesterday. We were better than them all over the pitch and only allowed the league leaders one shot on goal. A comfortable win.

One week you gave defenders 2 as they couldn't pass but give a midfielder an 8 for the same lack of ability in that area.

Where was our goal coming from if they hadn't gifted us one? We battered them after the first goal because it opened the game right up but before that, for 2 thirds of the game, we struggled to create a meaningful opportunity.

Gifted us one? Ok, it was a bit lucky getting a the deflection but he worked it well to get the shot away. Jones is the kind of player who can create something from nothing so I'm confident he can do that most games like he did today.

You're talking like we were struggling against bottom of the league when we were actually completely nullifying a free scoring team who were top. Chances always come in games, even they got one near the end.

I've got faith in Jones and he produced yet again.

We did struggle against the bottom of the league team though who have conceded 18 goals in there 8 other games and sacked their manager! But yes we were completely nullifying a free scoring team who were top and that came at the expense of struggling going forward ourselves. We don't concede and we don't score many. You said yourself all our good chances came after the goal yesterday. So yes, I think we fluked an own goal and then played very well on the counter attack. So that's our tactic this season? To rely on Jones to do something magic? It's a very 1 dimensional approach to getting out of this league via the autos, he gets clattered twice a game at least and has struggled to produce at Newport, Yeovil or Chesterfield when the opposition is ultra defensive. We've got no creativity through the middle of our team with the way we're set up - it is an issue which will continue to rear it's head regularly and 2 goals in 9 first halves is concerning for me.

I explained all that, or didn't it quite sink in? I was deliberately overly harsh back then for that game. I abandoned my usual mark scoring due to excessive peedoffishness.

I wasn't at Newport or Yeovil, but although we did struggle against Chesterfield, we had the ball in the back of the net once, their keeper pulled off an outstanding save and McNulty missed 2 easy opportunities which on any other day could have wrapped up the game for us.

I think if McNulty starts to take his chances, we get a bit more consistency from the Duck and Biamou gets some confidence then we'l be looking alright for goals and making chances. When Kelly is allowed forward then he has proved he can pick a pass.

I'm not saying we should plan to rely on Jones by any means, i think there are other outlets that will come in to their own as the season goes on. Right now it's working though so let's just enjoy it. Our defence is solid with adequate replacements on the whole so I think we've got a lot to be positive about. I've probably cursed Tuesday now, but fingers crossed we get another win. I think we will.

And have you not noticed, you are the only one on here so far who has given Doyle anything less than a 7.

And unlike me last time, with you I think you are serious. ;)

So sometimes your ratings are wummimg?

When Doyle was last here he was a very poor mans Robbie Savage - now he's a very poor mans Michael Doyle.

Agree with the Savage comment. I was never at all a fan. Been quietly impressed with him this time round though.

No, not 'sometimes' wumming, just in that thread that day I was peed off so over stated. I hardly ever get peed off at all, as it is not in my nature. It as just that thead and just a one off. Wasn't a wum, was just blowing off steam. Sort of an 'I hate you so much' heated argument with your missus or parents when you don't really mean it in reality. Next day is back to 'I love you,' again.

It pisses me off when any player gives the ball away cheaply but Doyle for the first time in a long time has given us a bit of grit yes he is a poor mans savage but we are league 2 after all.. if we get promotion with him as captain that will do for me

Yeah, exactly. He may be a poor man's Savage, but in League Two that is mighty fine enough and opposition players clearly don't like playing against hm.

It does worry me that Jones keeps being our star man...he's a young kid and obviously enjoying his game atm, lets hope he don't get injured! its great for the kids watching though because he is fast becoming a hero amongst them some adults too

Yet pretty much everyone has said he played well.

Don't use the MOTM as a smokescreen. Yeah, people by you may have been baffled that Doyle got MOTM, but that doesn't then translate into his not playing well.

I do think 5 is way OTT and rather daft in the scheme of things. Nearly everyone else on here has given either 7 ot 8 and many a 8.

Maybe you'd care to watch the game back again and see if you change your mind.
