I enjoyed the game, but aren't really that sad we are knocked out.

Just a bit meh. If that had have been the men I would have been gutted.
Same, they didn’t deserve it. Shame they through but hey ho. More bothered about New Zealand tomorrow!

Yes. This. USA were a bit more consistent throughout team. We had one or two weaker links.

You've all said it but I have to agree.
It was a terrible penalty.
I could see where she was going to put it well before she kicked it.
Can't believe she is the best penalty taker we have.
Should have given it to Lucy Bronze and told her to blast it.

I feel sorry for them, they've been decent and the game will get stronger. Hopefully over the years those like me who are a bit meh will get more into it. Done themselves proud

Yup. Based on what I have seen, I would have given it to Bronze, Scott or White.

Would love to see Millie Bright's pass percentage figures. She has been terrible all tournament.

See I’m not a major follower - can you explain why the last 3 pens have been taken by Nikita Parris and Steph Houghton. Why on earth. Didn’t Ellen White?

On well another England semi final defeat, I suppose there is always the cricket to look forward to.

Yes couldn't understand that, should have been White or Bronze taking the pen unless Houghton is the regular pen taker for her club side?

When you compare England to the USA we just don’t have the quality all through the squad. We have some top class players but not in every position. That’s changing though. Last time I watched “England” ladies it was in the Olympics and I have to say already the improvements are massive. As the women’s game gains in popularity that can only improve.

The only reason I can think of is we had to keep up our reputation of being the worst penalty takers on the planet - possibly the Universe.
We missed three out of four in this tournament.

But every other team will improve as well.
Look at the strides being made by sides like Spain, Italy and Argentina.

As for USA vs England comparison, just compare Tobin Heath to Nikita Parris.
Heath goes through you at speed and can shoot and score.
Parris, well ... once she is confronted by a defender, she turns around and passes it backwards. And she can't even score penalties. There is a world of difference.

Was a shame- just a poor penalty - good goals from both teams but overall Us more aggressive however they were the best drama queens

Don't forget guys, there's still the third place game on Saturday against the other losing semi-finalist.
Either Sweden or Netherlands.

I watched bits of the 2015 WC and didn't get into it. I thought the style of play was a bit monotonous with the long ball and hadn't watched a women's game up until this tournament.
This year I was away on holiday and caught the England games in the bar and as we progressed I made sure I watched the game vs Norway last week and USA tonight.

I thought our equaliser was a brilliantly worked goal and as the game wore on I was invested in it cursing VAR then loving it again when the pen was awarded to then be swearing at the TV when Houghton passed it to the keeper!

To think just 10-12 years ago when I was at secondary school the girls didn't even have the opportunity to play football in PE shows how far the Lionesses have come.

The Sun have had some great headlines over the years.

'Lionesses lose to V.A.R.MERICA' is not their finest hour.

I agree - except that is one particular player. Apart from that French right winger, not many wingers are as rapid and skilful as Heath.

I have to say i only watched it up until our goal (as the Mrs is definitely not one of the trillion pseudo-converts), but USA looked capable of penetrating our girls at the back every time they got the ball. They are technically MUCH better - just look at the way the lovely Ms Press headed that goal, albeit in the face of defending the City back four would be proud of!
And they manage to do that with a FEMALE (and English) coach. Is it just that there are no women in England who have had so long in the game to master the skills of coaching/managing a side? There are plenty in the WSL.
I have watched more of the games than i thought i would, but i'm still not excited by the standard of the football on display, and the screechiness of the predominantly female crowds (and commentators) does my fuckin head in!
But whoever lets the bastard England band in to these stadia needs a proper kicking.
They described last night as having a brilliant atmosphere on the radio this morning. Sounded pretty dead to me - you could barely hear a cheer when we scored!

As for comparisons of men's football to women's football, what I can confidently say is you will never see Conor Chaplin score a goal like Ellen White did against the USA.

Talk about interest from the premier league is buying the women’s franchise from the FA. Would be interesting to see how this plays out, personally I wouldn’t actively go to a game especially if Cov were playing for instance so they would really have to be selective on how this will play out. If they try and put both games toe-to-toe they will lose. Are they hoping that more women go and watch (again not buying that). I can only really afford one of the two and certainly wouldn’t pay extra to watch on sky sports etc.
I hope they can eventually fill stadiums but just cannot see the sustainable demand in line with the men’s game

There’s an easy way to win the women’s World Cup. Just get a team of men to “identify” as female and there you have it, cup guaranteed.

I watched the first 90 mins of Netherlands vs Sweden semi-final. Had to get back to work so missed the extra 30 mins.
Conclusions:
Pretty boring game and hardly anything between the two teams.
Sweden have the best goal-keeper in the world (Lindahl).
Neither side would present any problem for the USA.
USA should beat Netherlands 3-0 or so.
England should beat Sweden 1-0 or 2-1.
