Desperate not to say what? The identity of the killer hasn’t been confirmed yet AFAIK.

If the reality is so obvious, why don’t you come out and say what the media is so apparently afraid to say themselves?

Whenever migrants or Islam are involved, it becomes a very touchy subject for a lot of people.

The Annecy attack didn't even make this forum either I noticed, which just about says it all. Babies and toddlers were attacked there.

Unfortunately we're becoming a pretty cowardly species.

So the media gets slammed for not clarifying if migrants or Muslims were involved, when the bloke they arrested is a Portuguese guy from Haverfordwest?

It's a waste of time trying to talk this through with probably most people on here. From your first post in this thread, you put yourself in that category.

The guy who committed the crime studied at the university and was here from a child - his migrant status isn’t relevant

Absolutely loads of stuff doesn't get mentioned on here anymore which would have been 100 pagers a year or two ago, the Annecy attacks, the Wolverhampton paedophile ring, the trans lobby/Muslim fall out (which would have seen some incredible mental gymnastics on all sides), is it agenda driven, or are people just tired of arguing all day on a football forum?

Tbh I can't be arsed with lots of it, in part because we've all been on here ages and I get as fed up with the off topic and previous opinions being dragged into any new degate (im as guilty as having preconceivedideas on many of you as you will have on me). We mostly have nailed our political views and on certain subjects and I think because of that rational debate is no longer possible on any subject - tbh a smaller scale but a bit less childish than the HoC, so probably best to stick to the football ones where we mostly all want the same thing.

If people truly care about this stuff (and indeed, see it as somehow cowardly to not discuss it) then they should just start threads about it. As it is, they don’t.

You still haven’t said what it was that the media was too scared to say about this Nottingham case….

I'm sure things will kick off again at some point but going hell for leather on every thread on every subject is draining!

I think the fact that there are also now very few who seem currently very enamoured with their usual political party is also a factor.

I don't even need to look at the thread to know Tony is still going though

I didn't think I needed to as I didnt want to start a whole new racist row on here. I think we've all had enough of those. It was more that we had Muslim bashing all day which was out of order but then later it was widely known that the guy was African but all we had was the usual keeping an open mind and no mention of ethnicity which is not the stance when it's so keen to tell us if it's a right wing nutjob. I was only alluding to the lack of consistency.

I've not really followed the social media side of this story so someones going to have to explain. Did it not turn out to be who it was originally reported, or not reported I guess, to be?

Don't bother, there are people saying it's staged to family members. It's a fucking cesspit.
Alex Jones has a lot to answer for.

But the guy’s ethnicity was widely reported on the day itself? There wasn’t any kind of media blackout here. His ethnicity doesn’t appear to be relevant anyway, and it’s sad that people default to thinking that race must have something to do with it in the first place.

Responsible outlets tend to show restraint in discussing a suspect’s identity before it’s been confirmed by the authorities - I don’t think you should mistake that for some kind of ‘political correctness gone mad’ stance. The media goes absolutely bananas when things like this happen and a Muslim and/or a migrant is involved, it’s just totally false to say they purposely avoid discussing this stuff.

Surely keeping an open mind as to why things have happened until it's determined why things have happened us, well... sensible?
it was clearly not terrorism but some with mental issues even if just due to the time so I don't get why anyone gives a rats about the details of the person. Mental illness doesn't give a fig with you are black, white or from Leamington

As with any case such as this in recent years, the police response will always include counter-terrorism until they have established the full facts. They also say in their press conferences that they urge people not to speculate on social media about the alleged perpetrator or their motivations - IT ISN'T HELPFUL!
Notts Chief Constable said "“However, posting prejudicial information online about an active case could amount to contempt of court and, in the most serious cases, have the potential to cause the collapse of a trial.”

The counter-terrorism involvement is to establish whether they were acting alone/in isolation, or were part of a wider group/cell which may need people to enhance their vigilance.

The example in this case is that he went from being of "West African" origin, to some clown assuming that meant "Nigeria" (possibly because it is 50% Muslim and they had an ulterior motive for suggesting Nigeria, or possibly because not many of us could name that many West African countries). As it turns out, he has dual nationality between Guinea-Bissau (so West Africa, then) and Portugal (not unexpected given that Guinea-Bissau was a Portuguese colony until 1973), and had settled status here through his Portuguese nationality.

I guess his motives may come out at his trial (if he has one, and doesn't plead guilty or get sectioned), but no matter what they might be, he's still a murdering scumbag!

Maybe he was shit terrorist as well as a shit human being?? Maybe his watch was set to Mecca time???
But i think it will always be the case that CTU will get involved with any multiple murder, especially using terrorist tactics like vehicles.

No one said they shouldn't but I was making the point that it was never likely to be a terrorist incident inspite of what the lego eaters of twitter wanted

Off on a tangent but I was horrified to hear this on the weekend when I visited my Nan.

Her daughter in law’s (my uncle’s wife) dad had been struggling with other mental health for the last couple of years and was under the care of the NHS mental health team.

He called them a week ago Saturday just gone and said he was going to take an overdose. His contact told him not to do that and they would send an ambulance. This was around midday.

The ambulance arrived at about 18:30 and the paramedics found him hanging. “Investigation has been opened”.

Separately I know of two people who have been waiting several months for an initial assessment, one of whom is a child who hurt herself and was an “urgent” referral from her GP.

It’s a massive shit show. I suspect the compensation they have to pay for their failings out would probably fund a cogent mental health service.
Not far wrong re compensation. The current provision is £128 billion For future payments related to past actions. This would need to be audited so must be deemed as reasonable

Don't forget, though, that the UK definition of terrorism "simply" includes the act being motivated by the advancement of a political, religious, racial or ideological cause, not that it is carried out by a group or with any particular target or number in mind.

Does it make you feel better when non-white people do bad things?

As a healthy response is feeling bad when a human does a bad thing, and having empathy for the victim.

I guess it must feed your race superiority complex.

No it doesn't. You completely missed the point. I couldn't care less about his race religion sexuality or anything else, so please understand me and don't try to label it that way. I specifically picked upon the moronic racism before any details given and said about not wanting a racist row, my issue is with the press and not the lack of consistency, if you can't see that then you're picking a needless fight simply because you choose to see it that way.

Really disappointed in skybluepete for 'liking' it too, who I would have thought had seen enough of my posts and opinions to know how wide of the mark that is.

I maybe pressed the wrong emoji sorry to annoy. Re read and removed like for the final sentence. Guy was a xian and living in a church I think. It’s just awful the families are a huge credit to the human race
