Have you ever seen a defender with such poor positioning? It was truly amazing to see.

But those crosses against Forest.

Goodbye you crazy mad bastard.

Apart from that half against Forest, absolutely dreadful. The cup game v Northampton reserves a couple years ago he literally gave the ball away every time he had it. Was their best player on the night.

Most games you could see the other players trying desperately to explain the rules to him, never mind positioning. Still put in more good crosses in one half against Forest than some other RWBs managed in a whole season, mind.

I’m trying remember who was in the same recruitment batch as DaCosta and Hillsner. Decent people but mediocre footballers.

Don't worry, Frostie will be along in a minute to tell you how good that recruitment department were, and how he is mates with them all.

Given our recent acquisitions, it makes it even more funny.

We spent an absolute fortune for us at the time on Hamer and Gyokeres. We're all glad we did. It didn't leave a lot for the rest of the signings. Most of the others didn't work out. But still it must have been our best season of recruitment ever.

Fair play to him, he was a strange one, clearly not up to the level but at the same time due to his erratic style and clear confusion of what he was meant to be doing, made him quite fun to watch haha.

Remember the first game back at the Ricoh against Forest, he was alongside Dabo on the right. Imagine that for a full season, we'd have set a record for penalties conceded

He left at the end of June odd to be discussing him now

Walker will have cost a reasonable amount

In the first season transfer monies in nullified purchases. Wages more than doubled which was always the issue under the owners and how they ran the club

Indeed. I find it quite odd that people put more emphasis on Hilssner and Dacosta than the names above.
Given the budgets we had to play with, our recruitment truly was exceptional.

Obviously the landscape has completely changed now (predominantly off the back of them & the profits raised) but the new recruitment team look, on paper at least, to be doing a great job too. Long may it continue.

Thanks to all for clarifying/reminding who were recruited alongside DaCosta and Hilssner. These 2 names obviously stood out for the wrong reasons, but looking back on it, it’s amazing how good that group of players was considering how little we had to spend.

As the thread is called Dacosta I guess most discussion will be on him

No they were L1 signings. Hilßner and Dacosta came in first window after promotion along with O’Hare, Walker, Hamer, etc.

The summer we signed Hamer etc, was the best one, but there were so many shit players and transfer windows under the previous recruitment regime. The only thing that is really exceptional was the management's ability to get the squad to continuously over perform, and I think sometimes people lack appreciation for Robins and the job he has done. We might have more money now, but the recruitment is a lot more strategic. Badlan and the crew brought in some absolute dross, and whilst some players did work out and were good, the margins with such a tight budget need to be respected, and we had far too many players that weren't good really good enough.

Bakayoko
Kastaneer
Charlie Wakefield
Allassani
Junior Brown
Morgan Williams
David Meyler
Jobello
Hillsner
Da Costa
Adaramola

That is without even looking. I believe Badlan was also sacked from his role at Blackpool, which just about says it all. Looking at it now though, with such a strong squad building and the deadwood brought in from the previous recruitment cleared out, I am very excited to see what Robins can do with them. I think we are going places.

Interesting video to put up, is it to attract clubs who want a RWB who can get past one player and do nothing else?

Well surely you can only make a reasonable comparison of the job done by the levels of “wastage” other clubs have in our division

I quite liked Dacosta during the 20/21 season. He was wild, but offered us something different at times.

I remember he got a start against Reading during the early part of the 21/22 season and was totally out of his depth. Hooked at half time, and I don't think he played again. After watching that 45 mins I realised he was nowhere near good enough.
