If the amateur psychologists are right and he's an introvert, I'm not sure that some of the crass comments on this forum would be the ideal way to get the best out of him.

And if it's true that any of the senior pros are sneering about the ability of the new recruits, that would be grossly unprofessional and damaging to the team. I suspect it's untrue or massively exaggerated, and if there's a 'mole' putting that kind of stuff around to outsiders, should they even be at the club?

I'm just intrigued to know which of the old guard think they've been playing well enough to be sneering at the new recruits. We've been pretty fucking shite throughout the team to be honest.

No ones sneering.

Its an opinion of some that have been there years, the quality has dropped, and the quietness and shyness of the group is trying to be rectified by the senior members, only to be rebuffed/ignored/ just not working.

I must of missed that players were sneering at the new players?

There will always be jealousy and envy in football and with that ambition. If the new recruits have let slip their weekly wage and they’re on much more than the old guard then there will be friction.
Someone told me that last year Gyokeres was earning less than our loanees from the Prem clubs….no wonder he sought a bigger remuneration package in the end .

I’ve not been impressed so far with wright, but it’s very early days let’s not forget he’s from another country and has to get used to the food and living here, and once he’s settled in properly perhaps we will see a better player, fingers crossed.

Very clumsy with the ball, positional sense sporadic…..they’ve had our pants down, they’re laughing all the way to the kebab house. Fingers crossed indeed 😃

I mean if this is coming from players who have been here since League 1 or the first Championship season, they all had to develop a lot into the players they currently are. Some short memories there I think.

Has it though? Or have we just lost Vik and Gus? Doyle of the loaners maybe too. I would say other than that from what I’ve seen the new guys are better than what’s left. Even if not worth their fees.

Agreed. It’s a longer term play as well…less reliance on loans and looking to develop and improve our own players. I personally would’ve gone for another loan at CM to cover us until Jan/summer when we’ll hopefully spend some hamer cash on a permanent or two, but agree with the overriding vision

Agreed. There’s holes in the squad. But that’s not the fault of the new signings in other positions. I know we’re going off a rumour of a rumour, but I’d be winding my neck in if I were some of those at the club. Other than O’Hare and Sheaf I’m not sure too many can claim to be head and shoulders above the new guys.

Not sure what thread it was in but I did see someone questioning loans vs owning players. Now we’re an established Championship club loan players are only beneficial if they actually get us promoted; if they don’t we run into the situation we are now, where multiple first team players have left and we have to replace them all in one window. Owning our players provides long term stability and the ability to profit from sales.

For someone who supposedly can't head a ball and doesn't know where the back of the net is, he gave a fucking brilliant impersonation of someone who does in these clips.
Get off his back and wait until he starts getting a decent supply rather than scraps before writing him off.

As I said fingers crossed

I’m not belittling him settling in might take time, but “getting used to the food” did give me a chuckle. Big change going from American to English food 😀

Nah mate, he’s a donkey and lazy and shit. We’ve written him off now so we better boo him out the club before he causes further damage. After all we are the mighty play-off finalists Coventry City and anyone who is any less than premier league quality on their first day should be fired- out of a cannon.

Someone who can trap a ball would do thanks

I’d never boo him individually, I can say on a fans forum page he’s shite though

To be honest if the problem is that Wright is introverted and might take a bit longer to bring out of his shell then that's fine and better than him just being incapable.

I'm hoping that's what it is, and that he can have an arm around the shoulder and be given time to settle in. I think if the more outgoing lads are trying to almost force him to join in as part of the group then that could be quite damaging. It's not ideal having your main striker and record signing being shy, but we need to find out how to make him feel welcome and able to be himself.

But.....and I hope this comes back to bite me on the arse

There are points where he looks like a Moneyball signing - signed due to his physical rather than footballing attributes. At times he looks like an athlete playing football, not a footballer. Some of his technique has been so poor. His control, running with the ball that doesn't really seem under control, poor technique for shooting. Being offside a lot etc makes you think he's not got the best footballing brain either. Even watching the YouTube highlights, which are supposed to make everyone look a world beater, he didn't look amazing.

He doesn't look like anywhere near a £7.7m player and looks like he's worth 10% of that. I think we could've signed 2-3 better players with that money to give us more strength in depth around the squad. Of course, that's not his fault, it's the recruitment/management team and I cannot fathom out for the life of me how they thought he was worth that kind of outlay.. I can see us spending the next three years trying to get him out on loan to other teams.

We have the money to sign 2-3 more players anyway, with or without the money spent on Wright. We just fucked about too much.

He’s clearly capable of finding the back of the net.

To be honest, he’s playing like I used to, whenever I had a run out in the school team; I’d get nervous, self-conscious, and it was like I forgot how to even control the ball, look up for a pass, or dribble the ball properly. Crazy really, as on the play ground/pitch at break times, I could really switch it on. It was all in the mind.

Could all be psychological with Wright; the new challenge, the expectation level, the fee involved, new system etc.

I've heard the school play ground is just above the Scottish Premier league in terms of footballing level.
