Ally McCoist, Paul Gascoigne and Les Ferdinand (amongst others) all wore a City shirt for David Busst's testimonial game in May 1997 but somehow they all slipped away into the night at the end of the match.
I take it recruitment had a night off that evening?

That was a fairly decent game of football, if my memory serves correctly: 2-2 (can’t remember the scorers except the Busst penalty), and Oggy came on as an outfield sub.

Ferdinand and Gascoigne were different class, even in a testimonial game.

Anyone mentioned Jose Perdomo?

Having just read about what swift himself said on the subject of his interest, it's pretty poor form on our part asking so close to the deadline, kinda screams desperation.

Got a link?
To be honest it was so late in the window, I had no idea of it and when it did come about I knew it was two days left and nothing was going to get done – and even if it did I didn’t really want to leave.

“As soon as I found out I rung my agent and told him I didn’t really want to go, I wasn’t interested in leaving. I wanted to stay and had my head on staying whenever we finished the game against Swansea last season. That’s how it is in football, some things come right at the end [of the window], but for me it was a no-brainer to stay.”

Neil Lennon - Atkinson was in for him. He chose Leicester over us. Would of been a great signing
I think it's the book staying up that said Atkinson fucked it up by asking Lennon if he could head a ball at the medical, Lennon felt like he wasn't being taken seriously. Such a shame as he'd have been a far more effective signing than McAllister.

I think another factor was that Atkinson wanted to play him as a centre half

Ysrael Zuniga - I’d have liked to have seen us hold onto him, to be honest. He was a natural finisher. Was just looking at his career stats: 259 goals in 556 games.

His record, pre-Cov, was incredible. Even though it was obviously a poor league he was playing in.

It was used as leverage, I don’t think there was any real intent from his side.
My brother knew quite a few people in the club back in the day. Despite the claims from Robins and Clough in public, the story my brother heard is that Robins got cold feet as Clough wanted complete control of the club. By that, I understand Clough wanted more control than Robins was prepared to allow. Coventry not Clough pulled out of the deal. Clough then used the situation to bump up his salary with Derby. Would it have been his achievements at Forest or Leeds? Probably the former.

Yes a transformative player for us. The missing link in midfield. How did we manage to lose such an important player?
We lost him to Wolves who at the time were a division lower and skint, same with Neil Lennon who plumped for Leicester who were also a league lower, can only happen at Coventry.

Who remembers us having Ted MacDougal and his strike partner Phil Boyer on loan for a testimonial friendly can’t remember who for but these two were hot property both scoring goals galore and at the time playing for Bournemouth think in division three rumours galore they were coming here didn’t happen.

He was allegedly selling cocaine while here. His behaviour at Billy Wrights funeral suggests this may have been accurate.

I think I remember the back page of the Telegraph reporting that we were about to announce a triple swoop for Tim Flowers, Ian Crook, and Franz Carr.

I vaguely remember this, especially Ian Crook, who I think turned us down?

Very decent player in that Norwich team that made it into Europe.
