The trouble with that is we finished really poorly, almost relegation form, with only Saka out and EMC not here. Do we go from that to being world beaters after a few weeks rest and some training? We have a lot to do and recruit especially in defence and midfield.

And that is part of the problem with stats. How do you measure assertiveness, bravery, presence, vocality, leadership? All vital for a keeper. All can lead to incidents which absolute stats then measure. Some of which can put the keeper in a good light when they are anything but.

If the aim was to strengthen midfield and the defence it didn’t work. That’s quite a big shortfall to call the recruitment ‘excellent’ even ‘very good’. Especially as the end result was quite a lot weaker than the previous season.

Let’s be honest it was a mixed bag. Collins, Kitching, jds, Lati haven’t really done it. Torp still hasn’t got up to speed and seems a bit ‘delicate’ although promising. Ayari a bad loan who played too many games. The recruitment didn’t resolve midfield or defence issues.

You seem to have quite a strange definition of ‘freebie’. I’m not sure Doug would agree.

The wage bill must be the biggest concern for Doug. Especially as we seem to be paying so much to average players like Palmer and Kitching and we desperately need more (expensive) quality in.

Eccles is definitely worth persisting with. Braver than most and willing to adapt and learn.

Not sure about that. But it will be a bit humiliating if the likes of Daush are getting games before him.

I very much doubt jds or Lati will be offloaded this early (although they aren’t good enough). Godden may choose to sit out his remaining 2 years and play more golf). The wage bill may be the biggest issue as we’ll probably lose people on the lower end and have to pay big on decent quality)...

I suspect Sheaf would be easier to replace than a flair player like COH.
