My absolute hero -Georgie Boateng.
Loved that bloke. Wanted to play for City and play like him.
My shirt with his name on is going up on my garage wall.

100% agree with you Gint. But this is a different type of thread!

Is it? Not sure if I can detect sarcasm but the question was name a player who was a fans favourite but not necessarily gifted?

Boateng

1. fans favourite
2. Wouldn’t say majorly gifted

wrong thread?

Some people have not understood the thread - fans favourites who were not quite good enough for the level they were playing at.

Think I'll add Bigi to the list.

Might be a bit close to the bone for some. Might not.

Michael Mifsud. 86 apps, 16 goals. 1 goal per 5 games...ish

In other words, players who make up for lack of skill with hard work.
I don't think you'll ever find a goal-keeper in that list because there is no way hard work can replace skill in that position.
And I'd venture to say it's easier for defenders than attackers to compansate for lack of skill by working hard.

I honestly think Gallacher in the current market would be worth £50m+. An unbelievable player who if he'd been Dutch or Italian would have been remembered in far higher regard.
And if he'd been Icelandic, he would have scored against England.

Got it! I agree with 1. Just from my perspective disagree with 2; I think he was a seriously talented player. All opinions Gint.

Yeah fair enough. I loved him because he worked soo hard and had the character to go with it. I remember a game at home to Everton, we won 1-0, he got stretchered off near the end and afterwards admitted he didn’t need it, he as knackered. He’d worked ao hard that game he got a standing ovation. But to be fair, he bagged a few goals so on reflection, he was better than I recall

Tony Sheridan - what a player he could’ve been...but never was
Robert Rosario (for his spell in midfield - feels bizarre writing that even now)
Chris Marsden
Lloyd McGrath - won the cup so maybe shouldn’t be on the list

Completely on your side Gint. Boateng makes it into my all time City team of the players that have worn the shirt for us since circa 1978.

Morrell was crap but hero worshipped by a lot of Cov fans ... at the same time we had Stern John, who'd score goals but get booed for even farting.

Other players I quite liked during their time with us, for no real reason other than just because:

Richard Wood
Clinton Morrison
David McNamee
Jay Tabb
Franck Moussa

I thought the below were underrated to an extent by us fans:

Jack Cork
Lukas Jutkiewicz
Martin Cranie

Morrell was not crap, neither was John. The criticism of John at the time was because he could have done so much better. Most people could see that his natural talent meant that potentially he could have been a regular in the Premier League, given which it has to be considered that he underachieved over his career as a whole. Morrell however wasn't as talented but made the most out of his ability. He was a decent finisher, but for some reason our manager's seemed to like playing him on the wing, which gave him less opportunity to use his finishing ability. Both are better than any striker we currently have on our books.
