Saw a post on the 80s football group on Facebook, Bannister rarely gets a mention when 80s cov players are talked of. I didn't realise he was a product of the youth system, it was incredibly productive late 70s / early 80s. Was he past it by the time he came back?

Don't think he was great for us but I do remember his winner at Old Trafford, (wasn't there myself).
Definitely had his best days at Wednesday and QPR.

My (fading) memory of him was being slightly portly and not that quick. Seem to remember he scored an important winner at home when we won 1-0 against...insert team (Everton?)….please feel free to correct team in brackets!

I remember being excited that we’d signed him...my excitement didn’t last long. Was he part of a double/triple transfer bonanza? Possibly we signed Keith Thompson at the same time?
I’m more certain that the CT had a back page spread at some point, saying we were about to sign Ian Crook, Tim Flowers, and Franz Carr. I’m still waiting...liars.

One of the dozens of promising yoof from the Milne/ Sexton era of development. Was loved by many during his first spell and there was disquiet when he left. However if you look up his record in that time it was pretty underwhelming. Dropped down a division and scored 20+ goals a season for Sheffield Weds. Then onto QPR and back to us in 1988. Never really let us down in his second spell but looked like the sort of player who cd survive only with blistering pace in the modern. At the height of long ball first division it seemed that the game was evolving away from 5ft 5in strikers tbh. Moved on to West Brom after a couple of years - and of memory serves Forest as they went down.
