Ok, I am not sure if I have missed something, or has Gary Deegan left the club, or is he injured again?

I think if he is still with the club and can get fit he could be another great player for us along with all the other youngsters we have!

He and Freddie were sent to a specialist fitness/rehabilitation camp down south.

For Freddie it was to not be a lazy pillock, for Gary it was to get him back to full health andto prevent the knock reoccuring. Should be back fairly soon I hope - he's exactly what we need to partner Clingan and give Bigi some well earned rest

he left the club after putting pen to paper. another waste of time.
Did he? Don't recall seeing that anywhere - especially when only last week Thorn mentioned him being sent to the specialists.
Why is he a waste of time anyway? He is good at breaking up opposition attacks a 'la Mickey Doyle, only with far better ball control.

He's a very good player who I think will contribute more than Aron when fit. Not his fault he got injured.

I actually sat near to Gary in the away end at the Blues game, but didn't find out any more info, sadly. I can only assume he's still with the club, though, and should be coming back soon.

yeh, they've both been sent to that Gypsey slave camp.

Is that the one in Leighton Buzzard that was on the news yesterday? Is that why they came back on Friday, 'cos it was busted :)

OK hear we go again. I have said this before but will say again....Deegan will never be truly fit and will play no more than 2 consecutive games. ....(waiting for the abuse...)

Aw c'mon even Butcher managed 4. I think..why do you think that Tony? Do you think he's another Joachim or O'Neill faking it and picking up his pay-check? We saw Joachim in town every day in Leamington when the other players were training, heh heh.

I don't think Deegs is that kind of bloke. He was seriously p'd off when he came off during the Leamington friendly. He was about a yard away from us as he trooped off, saying "it's the same thing as before, I can't f****** pass the ball". This was confusing as he'd passed the ball better than any City player we have other than Sammy, and was head and shoulders above everyone else bar Bigi. I assume he meant he was in agony whenever he kicked the ball, which made his performance all the more impressive.

No abuse from me, but I have faith-Deegan will be back, and when he is, he'll run through brick walls for us without flinching. You'll see.

I loved Deegan when he arrived and thought he looked great.... but when did he last play a league game.?..

I hate to say it, but we don't have room for any passengers, however unlucky they've been.

I am not and never have said that he is faking it. I have simply said on previous occasions that for some reason his body is unable to take the strain of week in week out football. We have seen this a number of times with other players and Deegan seems to be the same. I am sure your right in that he is a decent bloke who could be a very player for us but sadly I don't think we will ever get the chance to find out.

He was out last season because of a fractured ankle wasn't he? That's a bit of an unlucky injury, not something I would think would keep happening! His injury since then is obviously just something that's happened because of being put in too early. I won't act like I know everything and say he's going to play every game or not more than two in a row, what I will do is give him a chance to come back and see what he can do.

Not confusing, makes total sense... :D

I like Deegan, I think he's just the player we need at the moment: can tackle, pass and gets forward enough to support the strikers. Say what you like about Doyle (and I often did) but at least he tried to break past the strikers on occasion.

I'd play (because I like midfielders who can pass):

Clingan
Thomas Deegan
Bigi

I think I'm a pretty good judge of a player to the fact that I worked in the game for a while and as god made little green apples Deegan is not a quality player!

He wont play more than 5-6 games on the run and will never get to the standard required for this league. From the games I seen him in he looked lightweight, not very tall, average paced and wasn't any tigerish in the tackle than say Clingan. Where's this bulldog tag came from who knows but I'm sure it's a piss take nickname.

Sorry dont rate him at all from the odd game he has played.

Yeah, I worked in the game for a little while too. But those street corners got too cold in the winter....

I like Deegan. He's like Michael Doyle, but with the added bonus of actually being able to play football. Looking forward to him adding some steel in our midfield.

Deegan's Career Appearances:

Season Team Apps (Goals)
2004–2006 Shelbourne 1 (0)
2006 → Kilkenny City (loan) 18 (4)
2007 Longford Town 30 (3)
2008 Galway United 17 (0)
2008–2009 Bohemians 35 (5)
2010– Coventry City 17 (2)

In 2006 he was 19, same age as Bigi. He played 18 games in 6 months and scored 4 goals. Released when club got into financial trouble.
2007 - 35 games league and cup in one season, still only 20.
2008 - At Galway United for 6 months: 17 games. Released when club got into financial trouble.
2008-2009 - Regular at Bohemians, got a lengthy ban for a double sending off. So you could call that 40 games.
2010 - Signs for City in January, makes 17 appearances before the end of the season. Gets an injury pre-season, hasn't yet recovered from it.

Hardly fair to call him a crock. One major injury in his entire career, and he's only 22.

EDIT: Noticed that every other club he's been at has released him because of financial trouble, dun dun dun....

Bigi's 17. But I agree with the sentiment.

I also see exactly where he got his pitbull tag and considering he looks pretty stacked so don't know where somebody who's "been in the game" before gets lightweight from. Fair enough, you don't like him but don't make stuff up!

Sorry I think he's utter tripe when I've seen him play. (It was that long ago since he last played)! Just my opinion like. I doubt he will get in a midfield if Clingan and Biggy (what's his name) are playing and his not the type of player to sit in behind the front two.

In fact I can see him being sold off if he gets fully fit (end of contract then).

So he is, sorry don't know where I got that from. Same age as Cameron last season though.

Stop being so dramatic and take those sky blue tinted glasses off. His 5 foot nothing weighing approx 10 stone He's lightweight and that's a bloody fact.

Well, I can't see that happening at all considering Midfield is where we're lacking bodies. I think we'll see about Deegan but my opinion is he's good enough.

I disagree.

And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime either.

He's 5'9 and 12 stone. That's half a stone lighter than and the same height as Rooney, who I doubt anyone would call lightweight.

There is no way that he is half a stone lighter that Rooney. Not a chance. The stats you got them from must be incorrect.

Well as I said before, against Leamington he was pretty much teaching Bigi stuff as they played the game, constantly prompting and helping him. He was seeing passes that nobody else there could have dreamt of. Yeah yeah just Leamington, I know-but in terms of technical ability I think a lot of people are in for a big surprise. He pings the ball about and is particularly good at through balls, flighted passes, and first-time passing. I'd say he will give us more penetration than Sammy, and has all the raw ingredients to go on to be a better player than him. A midfield general, and they are darn rare to find these days. Don't forget, the lad was the hot prospect in the Irish league when we signed him-after extensive scouting by Mr Thorn, of course.

Well, that's my Deegan Tribute. After my massively OTT hype of Cyrus and Gael in the summer, and Hussey when we signed him, I guess I can just sit back and wait for him to prove my point for me now :D

Ha ha ha, lightweight-he's built like a brick outhouse! You don't get many double-red cards by being no pussy-cat, either.
