Lost my 'bookmarks' in Google Chrome - help (1 Viewer)

Now here is an annoyance: Some strange update must have happened as my Chrome browser suddenly started showing an avatar in the top left hand corner of the browser. Apparently it's something new. But a cup cake...really?
Anyone else had this intrusion?

Well I left clicked and deleted it as far as I can recall but it came back so I clicked the avatar again and then deleted the profile under the tab list and it went...but so did my bookmarks, all 500 or so.
I reset the computer to the day before hoping to solve the problem but the bookmarks failed to re-appear.
I need those bookmarks for my work, I can't possibly remember them all.
Any talk through help for a not so techy guy like me would be helpful.
(I have windows 7)

Thank you my friends.

All the bookmarks are usually stored in a file somewhere on your computer have a look in the program files for the google chrome folder and look in there although sometimes bookmarks are stored in your documents
