Hornets boss claims manager of the month honour

Watford manager Malky Mackay has won the Championship Manager of the Month award for March after taking 10 points from a possible 15.

Mackay beat off stiff competition from Reading's Brian McDermott, Steve Cotterill of Portsmouth and Bristol City boss Keith Millen.

Watford overcame Millwall, Sheffield United and Ipswich, while they also drew at high-flying Swansea before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough.
The Hornets are currently 10th in the Championship ladder and Mackay is looking for a strong finish from his troops so that they can secure a play-off position.

Momentum

"We've had experienced players back and that always helps," he told Sky Sports News. We've got a bit of momentum going.

"I'm delighted for the staff and the players here because everyone has worked hard this season.

"If you'd have told me with seven games to go we'd be this close to the play-offs it's something we'd have taken.

"Once you're there with seven games you're looking to build a bit of momentum and see where it takes us.

"Everyone is looking to the late 60s and early 70s points mark to get into the play-off positions.

"There's still six or seven clubs that can do that. It's going to be tight until the end."
